I'm not 100% sure, but I think its due to the typing. most psychic types have higher stat bases, and when it loses psychic typing, stats drop
thats my take, so dont take it too deeply.

I suggest using a fairy/ground type like togekiss/torterra to take poison hits neutrally and hit them back super effectively with ground stab like earth power.
Also, a fairy/steel like aegislash/carbink that can switch into the poison and grass moves milotic/diancie would rather avoid
