I actually tried a load of fusions for Venu in the calc, a lot of them are nice but not the stuff I want but many others are good, even great, so I'm just confused which one I should go with.

I think there's a misunderstanding here.
Pressing the Q key (keyboard) on default controls or any button binded to the keybind menus L button let's you toggle between fast forward, faster forward and normal speed for the whole game, not just your character (similar to an emulators fast forward function)
Whereas holding shift on default controls or any key binded to(not the keyboard key, the ingame keybind) lets you run or walk (the one that isn't default in your settings)
So TLDR hold shift or A keybind to run,
Press Q key or L keybind to fast forward the game or return it to normal speed
