A lot of it seems to go into the codebase from what I've seen and I doubt that Pokémon Essentials would have the same codebase as the official games and has the added benefit of being built on an open-source engine

Pokemon games are usually pretty honest in their trailers at least. Scarlet/violet's trailer had pretty bad framerate issues and they didn't try to hide it, so I'm guessing it's going to look pretty similar to what we saw

Probably nothing major (could be wrong). Bug fixes and small patches, probably

PIF 1 and Hoenn share a code base so (generally) code fixes will apply to both

We don't know yet! We've been focusing on the demo and contests aren't included in it. We know we want to do it of course, but we want to do a good job and not the bare minimum. We did a test early on in development and it turns out contests are quite complicated and not very compatible with our system, so a lot will need to be done from scratch. And for hoenn there is more than one dev, however frog is the lead and does all the difficult coding work

During the early talks about it with paya, these were my thoughts on it

1. Write a script that would change the colors of the existing UI when the option is toggled. This would need quite a bit of testing to make sure everything works and looks good. We want it accessible but don't want it to look like garbage.
2. Make new UI elements for every current UI that needs to have a high contrast version. You'd still need to edit the current scripts that displays the UI to check that toggle and then display the appropriate one. In theory, the code for that shouldn't be difficult but it's a lot more artistic work.
3. Adding the most coding work onto frog and maybe artists but perhaps the best player experience in the long run; give the player full UI customization control where the player can change the menu screens, text colors, etc. etc.

Gastrodon is a mix of nature vs nurture. Its appearance is determined for the rest of it's life at birth due to the water temperature of where it was born. In Sinnoh, the west has warmer waters while the east has cooler waters.

People have done some cool things with plusle and minun, so I have complete faith in our community to do something cool with this. You also have to consider the amount of sprites to manage in the files themselves. Managing a fusion or base pokemon that has a lot of sprites is downright a pain in the ass, and would be equally a pain in the ass for players who need to scroll through the pokedex to select a sprite if spriters decide they want to make designs for both versions

And you have to consider the longevity of the game as well from the spriter's point of view. Spriters are always looking for something new to sprite, so in my opinion this would encourage creativity and provides more of a spriting challenge to those who seek to complete pokemon. Eventually we're going to run out of things to make rush events for, and sadly spriters can get discouraged to make a sprite if a fusion already has something. I don't like that mentality and its sad, but it happens. It may be a waste to some people, but there are more parts to the game and community that benefit to a separation when the time comes
