No, you can use thief on wild cubones and marowaks instead, it will give the item to your pokemon if they were holding it (just make sure your thief user doesn't hold an item).
I believe there is a way to increase the odds of wild pokemons holding an item (an ability that needs to be on the first pokemon in your team) but I never remember the name of the ability that does that.

This only works if you had Auto Save turned on and using 6.4+

1. Open your game folder
2. Double click SaveFile
3. There is a folder named backups. Open it.
4. If your save slot was A, double click the File A folder
5. Rename whichever save file you want to revert back to "File A.rxdata"
6. Copy the save and replace your corrupted/old save with this new one you renamed
   Note: If you don't feel comfortable overriding the save, you can rename it to a different letter instead. So you can rename to File B.rxdata for example in step 5.

How to transfer Hidden Ability from one Pokémon to another

So this can ONLY be done with Pokémon caught naturally with their hidden ability, not with a hidden ability ball. Easiest method would be going to Secret Forest which is always a Hidden Ability area, as it doesn't matter which Pokémon you get with a hidden ability. It only matters that it naturally had that HA.

Take mon with HA and fuse it with the mon you want a HA on, and make sure the mon that currently has the HA is the body

Choose the HA, then use a reverser to reverse the fusion, then unfuse the fusion. The other pokemon should now have its HA!

NOTE: Sometimes stats will be temporarily messed up, but will fix upon leveling or fusing

On the new HA mon, you'll actually get access to the move relearner moves of the moves the other pokemon knew when it was captured in addition to the regular moves it can relearn

It does, and if you search for "Fashion designer" for example in that page you will see the costumes and the pokemon you need to show her, which is what tealpixel asked.
Unless you have the same list with only the costumes in question of course.

but that only changes enemy trainers; you'd need to ng+ a save that has a full team of mawiles already caught to use mawile yourself
