#Long burning fuel and bulk cooking

I have noticed while playing that fuel doesn't last very long, especially when cooking. It takes an absurd amount (around 8 firewood) per meal in a cooking pot. This is even worse when you try to cook a stack of an item over a campfire. You can be more efficient with an oven but cant make meals inside one. I would vouch for the addition of longer lasting fuel sources you can with relative ease make for the sake of bulk cooking or other long processes. Or at least a system similar to the forge. Its very fuel efficient and get its job done at a relatively fast pace, so much so you can probs get 4 bars into finished projects with 1 charcoal. I would love to see a similar system be added to campfires, or at least have longer lasting embers, so that it stays hotter for much longer.

There are some mods out there that do adress this issue like Fuel briquettes but it would be nice to see it added to the base game.

Are you allowing the firepit to reach max fuel temperature and then letting it wind down? it only takes one peat/firewood for a single serving of food - I've made hundreds of max (6) pots with the magic number of 4 fuel
Same shtick with the oven - it can drop below 200C and bake things just fine!

This is even worse when you try to cook a stack of an item over a campfire.
This was actually a deliberate change going into 1.22 - something about the idea of temperature calculation passing through stacks - but the calculation certainly feels scuffed at the best of times
-# and outright gets buggy when handling groups, given the ever-persistent ingots-cooling-at-mach-5 forge bug
You're meant to split up firepit-roasts into smaller batches across multiple firepits (essentially further incentivizing the use of cooking pots rather than charring meat/dough, and bloomeries over them for flint processing)

# urban grove > It takes an absurd amount (around 8 firewood) per meal in a cooking pot Are yo...

Thank you for letting me know this. I have not been letting it simmer down from max heat. I had assumed it was kinda like minecraft. I was aware of the heat mechanic from the forge and how you can work with materials even as they lower in temperature. But haven't thought to let things simmer while cooking. I just assumed no red flame means it's not cooking.

As for the ovens, that's a bit less intuitive. As you don't get a bar like you do with pots seeing at what temperature it needs to be at. Nor information that things could still cook below their temperature requirements. But thank you again for the tips.

I'll have to test this and re-evaluate my stance. I feel like it still might feel a little expensive.
