#"Final" tier of Food that never spoils

I've seen people say that even spoilage times of years cause problems in large servers so I definitely think there should be some "final" tier of food that just never spoils, and would be more convoluted to make.

For Fruit and Vegetables it should definitely jarred Jam and Pickles if glassworking is ever added, maybe requiring propervacuum canning in order to fully preserve them.

For Protein I feel like Jerky is a common enough suggestion. You can cure meat, so you'd also be able to smoke it, and if you do both youbget jerky. But it feels way too simple for it to be the most advanced produce of this type, so I was thinking, what about sausages? They also require both curing and smoking but they'd be more complex to make, requiring lumps of fat as well as scraped hide for the casing.

For Dairy, Parmesan Cheese, though I don't know enough about it to know exactly how its production would differ in-game from Cheddar/Blue Cheese. Maybe unwaxed cheese would need to be aged in a cold enough cellar to age into Parmesan, but if it was too warm it would spoil.

I don't know what Grain would be, Hardtack seems realistic but it'd be way too simple, and giving nutrition to Ale feels weird. Sealing raw grain in crocks could work but I feel like the final tier of food products should be ready to eat right off the shelf. Maybe some kind of cracker or cookie

The biggest reason I want this though is just because the thought of having a cellar stocked to the brim with fully developed foods that took a lot of effort to make and will never spoil sounds like the most satisfying feeling ever.

Much simpler: spoil timers are automatically extended by a factor of 10 on servers.

Why just on servers?

#

Oh you mean for all foods

#

Hmm

#

I still think it'd be incredibly satiafying to have a cellar full of completely worked foods and the reward is that they never spoil

#

I think something like Graham Crackers could work for Grain, it requires both Honey and Salt so it's not too early-game but it'd still be the easiest final product to get, which I think is fine since Grain is already the food type with the lowest spoilage speed

Graham crackers spoil quite quickly in real life. You're looking more for something like hard tack. Also, pemmican (the kind specifically without berries as adding berries greatly shortens its shelf life)

prime dirge
#

I thought of Hard tack too but it'd be way too easy to make

#

It's just flour and barely any water

#

pemmican would also be too easy to make i think and sausages fit more with the cellar theme

#

Actually since hardtack is so hard to knead maybe you could lock it behind the helve hammer lol

# prime dirge It's just flour and barely any water

It has to be baked multiple (usually 2-4) times, and all at a low-enough temp not to burn in the process, so it takes more effort than regular bread. Also needs to be soaked and/or crushed to actually be (realistically) edible, so I think that could help balance it.

#

More of a long-lasting and portable ingredient than a direct food item

I feel like you need to do more research into this subject.

prime dirge
#

maybe you could just call the item a generic "cracker"

#

Ship's biscuit is another common name for it, afaik

prime dirge
#

also i think hardtack works because you can eat it as is but you can also use it as a cooking ingredient

#

the vision is that you can eat all of the final tier foods as they are and cook stews and pies with them

jarring seems like a good idea
jerky could be made simple, but give less saturation
cheese idk about
and hardtack i think the same with jerky, not too hard to make, but gives less saturation

prime dirge
#

i do think jerky should be added but not as the final tier of food

#

maybe pemmican works better instead since it actually fits the bill of having a shelf life of decades which could be translated into unlimited shelf life in the game

#

sausages aren't really like that

Add vinegar (acetic acid) for a better tier of pickling, still would use salt but would be much better

#

Also anything with vacuums or pressure seems to just get shut down as "too complex". Had some slight pushback on an idea for active refrigeration using the techniques shown in the anime Dr. Stone

#

Which is completely doable with the addition of the waterwheel, as they used a waterfall in the anime to preserve a corpse in said primitive icebox. Sorry for getting off topic.

i mean could very well see them adding ice boxes to the game in future

Hard tack should take 10 times as long to eat (at least) unless you cook it in a meal, then it regains a spoil time

#

jerky should take at least 5 times as long to eat, unless you prepare it with fancy ingredients

prime dirge

I think I've prioritized aesthetics over realism a bit too much so the new products for every type would be:
Grain - Hardtack
Protein - Pemmican
Dairy - Chhurpi
Fruit & Vegetables - Still Canned Jam/Pickles

#

the first 3 would all still give pretty low saturation

Honestly I would just give these foods a crazy long shelf life, like 100+ years. Because imagine finding a thing of 40% moldy hardtack, because you've been on that word for literally hundreds of years. That would be kinda cool

people that do lament about spoilage in servers just seem like they never plan for the fact that time goes on without them even though it's maybe the most obvious caveat of playing on a server, and it's interesting when food is essentially eternally 'stored' by seeds and renewed with their investment and when there are non-perishable options like rendered fat. or just plain ol' livestock you've kept that you haven't killed because it isn't as though the game lets them starve to death (yet)... or even just cattails you've replanted in a nearby pond that you weren't going to use for anything else anyway

#

that said, bespoke options aren't a bad idea! just might not be quickly forthcoming when there are these options already

prime imp
#

Well, if they do ever add skeps that don't get destroyed and are infinitely reusable (not using clay, cattails, etc) then Honeycomb would be a really good non-perishable food source

It can be just a square with minimal support ajd the bees will take their first days making the honey cells

#

Notably the upper part has a little extra to add space for the bees to move below and extra support

#

Realistically these hives should make way more honey

#

But less wax

Also worth mentioning the bee has her own compartment(broodbox)

Oh god its golden combs all over again

It can be a complicated initial setup or it xan be a set and forget

Initially being slower/not producing at all and requiring setup or whatever until it settles
