I know, not exciting. But really going south has no consequences. Mosquitoes would spawn in summers up north and year round in the tropics. They’d occasionally bite you and deal damage. You can stop them by wearing long clothing and planting fennel. You can also use a knife on mature fennel to strip the leaves. Put it in a fire to get it smoky and you have a temporary and portable mosquito repeller. You can also craft a mosquito bomb and fill it with mosquitoes caught in a bug net. Yeah this idea might suck.

Not sure about mosquitos in particular, but having some kind of meaningful penalty to living in warmer regions has been floated many times and seems reasonable.

You may also want to tie the severity of the mosquito damage to how much rainfall occurs locally, because mosquitoes and deserts don't really mix. (Also would add a reason to settling in arid spots, which is typically avoided because high rainfall areas are better for agriculture.)

Eh. I wouldn't want something smaller than a pixel to be able to kill me.

#

And random tick damage from god knows what isn't good game design either

An insect update WOULD be interesting if done right though

#

Maybe our bases could have bee or wasp nests we'd have to take out

I personally don't care about 300 different types of insect but I'd like more interaction with them besides putting bees to work and occasionally angering them

incense would also help ward off biting bugs...
