#Armor rework wishlist

My suggestion its not on a type of armor, but a decorative way for your armor. Like when you're done with making your armor you'll be able to put brass on areas of the armor for decorative purposes and to be able to be 3X more outstanding from players in servers. To put the brass on the armor would be like, chiseling but instead of removing a voxel u just paint it over with brass the metal part/voxel of the armor. (since its for decorative purpose it wouldnt be cool to remove one metal voxel to put a brass voxel that would probably debuff the armor) Or instead of that, make the armor able to receive a brass plate in a specific part. (wich now would probably debuff the value of the armor) Also for more decoration alternatives, it would be good to be able of instead of only brass, u be able to put gold or silver on the armor for decoration. It would make players look out more for these types of minerals.
Hmmmmm layer coating / inlay is great for making armor personalised and visually distinct
thats what im saying twin, imagine you on a full plated badass armor with intricate and beautiful forms
like a beautiful chiseled block/wall
Also, it would be great to differentiate between players in case several players have the same type of armor.
Or you have that tin bronze coated over of iron keeping the drip without sacrificing defense
ORRRRRRRR, steel plate armor with black bronze decoration
it would be peak asf
I know it can't be a 1-1 due to copyright but something even CLOSE to this i would throw money at cause i mean
COME ON LOOK AT IT
Sheer aura
To fight the darkness
We must become something Worse
A proper hundskull please!
spoleto bascinet
reminds me of a weird mix between the Spoleto Bascinet and a Great Bascinet
I love the Spoleto Bascinet too though, very aesthetic helmet
not a hint of great bascinet in this image
its made of metal
the wiki for it is VERY incomplete
but it has a LOT of armours, including padding and mails seperated from the main armour pieces
if there was any pie-in-the-sky suggestion from me, I would wish for me to be able to sculpt my own decorative face plates thru smithing. No clue how doable that would be though.
great bascinets tend to have a shit ton of holes as the visor
theyre just bascinets with an "intergrated" gorget really
arent they welded to the gorget and the backguard, therefor they dont move, only the head inside does?
compared to the regular bascinets with aventails, that can rotate with your heads movement
much of the time they’re slightly articulated
yeah they restrict movement a lot
and theyre incredible neck protection so lots of people who actually fight want one
but even so one should expect armor to be more restrictive the more it protects
up and down slightly yeah otherwise good luck lmao
yeah just kind of at odds with the mental image of welding still
i mean, it is kind of, isnt it - it rests on the shoulders, but its one piece
two pieces that move only slightly up and down so your impression is mostly correct
i guess theres multiple types - i found some on google images that are like what ur describing
but also this, which is pretty solid
this is articulated tho
dont know how authentic the reproduction in the first pic is tho
okay its after a real one, found in Pamplona
this is a mid off the shelf reproduction but it’s meant to be the same sort
tho some are riveted more solidly like so called venetian great bascinets
but imo those have more in common with the helms of their time…
the orignal seems to be one piece too
yes, the gorget,, but not in the back
yeah but it’s not stuck to your cuirass, you can just look down
yeah, but up will be harder than in the second type
for sure
although on a horse, the need to look up is not as great ig
unless ur enemy brings like an elephant
and then u prob have other problems
or a rly big elk
Alright, hear me out, this armor suggestion is not biased at all and completely time period accurate.
I think that Vintage Story seems to take place in the late 1300's to early 1400's. I think a good armor, which would be perfectly historical would be some kind of bascinet for a helm, and transitional plate armor. Mixing plate with maille and brigandine. Tabards showcasing heraldry would also be great for public and roleplay servers. Somewhat like this:
Does vintage story play in a certain time? I thought there was a temporal disaster than mashed everything up
Ooooh boy I am a sucker for armour, especially European one! Lemme give some references that I'd love to see put in:
Firstly I'd say about 4 layers would be good, so you can cover the basics + an overlay (Arming Doublet/Padding, Chainmail, Plate and "overlay"/Joupons/Tabards)
Some individual armors I'd love to see:
- A Brigandine would be neat!
- A sallet! They are such iconic helmets, generally gothic armour in general would be cool
The world was indeed scrambled. That's why despite being in europe, there are many crops, animals, etc. from the Americas, Hawai'i, east asia, etc.
the time of the scrambling up of everything is generally considered the technology line
so like 1400s era stuff, i dont actually remember the number
the calendar years still continued
1318 is the date we have in-game, but all the temporal stuff made them propell towards some steam-punky stuff
its still mostly fantasy, steam punky fantasy
yeah
i think itd be safe to add armours perhaps invented after that because uhhhhh...
theyre cool and caring about armour variety not being technically time accurate despite visually appearing so is... silly
nobody other than professional nitpickers are going to mind more armour variety
- This is a nice reference for the modelling of armor, as well as a neat reference for combat joupons being worn over armor! Apparently a reason for this configuration aside from aesthetics is the fact that arrows often shattered on impact when hitting plate, so joupons were meant to catch that debris to avoid it potentially lodging itself between the gaps of the armor and hurting the wearer
I made merch! ArmedClothing is now live at https://www.armedclothing.net/
Another episode depicting a variant of knightly armour from the Hundred Years' War.
Today, we explore what a French Marshal (high ranking military commander) would have likely worn during the late 14th century.
Please support the reenactor featured in the video:

- Kettle Hats! The quintessential "guard helmet", there are a couple cool things about them, and a couple variants I find cool personally. Bonus points if you guys include the option for bevors, which were pieces of plate worn on the neck and over the mouth to protect the face
you can never have enough kettle helmets
Tbh so long the base armor system is actually cool and has some space for layers and interesting ways to mod it, things will be fine, after all yeah we can wishlist armors we want but at the end of the day if they aren't added- mods can take care of it as well :D
@grave gazelle have you made any more objectively right suggestions that i might've missed?
almahr speaks. And i listen
I know that this was made in more modern times
However two things
First, its just metal plates nothing crazy that couldn't be made in earlier times
Second
LOBTOR
🦞
Chat, butterflies are important, we need some kinda butterfly imagery on armor
not much, you can probably search my messages here
Whatever styles we get, I just want to be able to dye leather armors, and enamel metal armors with patterns and/or solid colors. And put heraldry on shields.
Given the sheer amount of Christian Adjacent theology going on, we need some Biblically Correct Angel Imagery on armor.
please design the new system in a way that provides incentive to make any armor prior to steel. costs are too high and durability/protection are too low for anything prior to steel armor to be worth the effort, especially when it's full set or nothing
I was gonna post this too. Great stuff for the devs
We need golden cod pieces
that'd be too difficult
saints and angels are too complex on medieval heraldry to display with a couple pixels
2nd image is gold embroidery
actual medieval battle banner
the issue that you run into is that the shapes won't be easily readable if you make the canvas 16x16 for example
I'd like it too but yeah 🙂
let us make a helmet with the bells, with an optional spine plume
like, have a padding in the bell funnel and cutouts to see from, please
Have you seen the tapestries? Our artists can do amazing things with quite limited space.
I have
simple-ish designs work very well
a super complex battle banner won't work, I think
I guess we can just test it 🙂
Overall though, you're not wrong.
On the other hand, Heraldry is supposed to be remarkably simple.
Of course, it's also supposed to be clear and identifiable.
right, maybe the example I've shown is a bit overboard, it's a historical item but it's also supposed to be the personal banner of a warrior-king
so yknow
a lot more intricate
it's actually I think 600-700 years old
remarkably well preserved
just take a chisel and try to chisel something on a block thats supposed to be a saint or angel
A bit late to the party, but here's some styles that would be cool to see.
-pagoda armor, for that extra jingly tanky feel
-Rajput armor that is mostly cloth and chain mail, for an ornate mid weight armor
-lobster tail pot Helms, they just look cool.
-Rus viking armor, chairman veils are cool
-armored hats/skull caps so we can show off our characters faces while also having some protection
-Gaudy brightly colored bronze age armor. Tons of wild and cool designs to pick from
-landsknecht inspired clothes for wearing under armor, possibly lightly armored itstelf for a more flamboyant and gaudy look. We defintly need some hats though, with the potential of adding things like horns to helmets, being able to add different feathers to hats lt helmets would be cool
They could probably implement a system where you could piece together heraldry from a few options like banner/tabbard shape, background colors/pattern then the main logo itself, maybe even text as well if they just copy the font size they use on things like signs.
If they built it on that frame work, modders could easily build out assets for it, and i bet you could even compress a lot of images down to pixelated versions to be used in that sort of system. You'd lose some detail, but you can still get some pretty intricate images to read well when scaled down like that
I think it’d be cool to see some similar armor piece to a Hellenic linothorax (armor of linen) in the game
Or my favorite Italic/Etruscan helmet, the Italo-Chalcidian Type
Got an idea for a fun armor set: Junk Armor, armor cobbled together from junk with appearances based on common clutter items, broken rusty gears, aged wood, and other things found in ruins, using broken gears and charcoal with an aged wood mask with many expressions in the mask determined by the decoration layer, a chest plate made of things like a rusty trapdoor or piece of metal barrel hammered into shape, arm guards, leg guards, and shoulder pads made of rusted rebar, busted lanterns, pieces of chandelier, and short planks from a ruined shelf
yes - a basic version like this and then the option to upgrade with scales
This is the kinda faceplate they'd draw for Iron Man in 80s marvel comics (someone just told him Ultron is about to blow up the moon)
Damn
The worst part of it is that it is true
I was basing it off of architecture and technology. Brigandines are in the game, along with many other historical armors, so a hybrid (transitional plate) would fit perfectly.
With the addition of more armor, you know what we really need? Posable mannequins so I can have standing suits of gothic armor holding weapons in cool ways in my mansion.
If you use a wrench on an armour stand, you can currently cycle through three different poses!
It gives immunity to tenporan stability but makes it be a constant temporal storm
I mean this is pretty similar to the jonas protective suits in ruins so its fine right?
Actually didn't know that, interesting.
the what now?
And can i have it?
They are decorative clutter that you can find in ruins
damn i wanna wear it
Well ask for a repaired version here then
dyeable brigandines
aztec ichcahuipilli shirts and tlahuiztli suits were beautiful and very protective! allows for lots of variety between dyes or animals
I agree! I'd love to see better representation of eastern armour beyond just Japanese stuff.
The Chinese (and Koreans, don't forget the Koreans!!) had some really nice looking armour!
I heard they could make textile-based armor that could stop musket balls by soaking layered fabric in concentrated salt water and letting it dry until the fabric was hardened with salt crystals
that was the ichcahuipilli, unspun cotton that was quilted in multiple layers and soaked like you said. it was so effective & so much better for the hot weather that some spanish invaders traded their plate cuirasses for cotton!
They changed their plate cuirasses not because of the weather, but because their armor would eventually get dented or broken, and since there were no blacksmiths nearby to repair it, the best thing to do was to switch to cotton.
Heraldic tabards, surcoats, and waffenrocks with customizable charges and fields. different designs for the base could be made like sleeves, crenels, and buttons.
Maybe redundant, but I think some armor from Rust is funny (scrap armor?)
i think this makes more sense that to have beautiful crafted armor in vintage
the amount of scrap armour suggestions in here have been plentiful
Would give us something to do with the metal scraps
Cause other than what. Dye and scrap bombs. Its just junk
Can't even melt it down for nuggets
Yeah scrap armour should be like the main armor until you progress to iron
Lolz this looks like an old walnut
Hard disagree. have it avaliable make but make it really difficult or rare to aquire.
I agree with this
I don't know if I overlooked it, just an option to not necessarily have full armor but just a nice breastplate or breast/backplate could be nice. A lot of medieval and early 16th century equipment lists for city militias have helmet + breast/backplate as like the minimal armor tier citizens had to own. In German the single breastplate or breast+backplate combo is often called "Krebs" (crab) in such lists.
And as others already said, the option to have some sort of surcoat could be nice as well. For such militias the lists often mention something like a Schopen/Jupon to wear as the outer layer. (Pictures are from the Housebook of Wolfegg Castle (1480) and the Richenthal chronicle (1460-75))
Yeah. I definitely want the option to have like really nice, well made armor. I mean, why not? Our character seems quite skilled with the forge. And it would be strange to craft something from freshly mined iron and have it look like we raided a 200 year old scrapyard. People can and want to craft nice stuff. and there are already enough games with nothing but ugly scrap armor.
een the most "crude" forms of armor wouldve be nicely decorated cuz thats just how humans do it
I have an idea relating the new armor update that's coming,
How about something similar to Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 and 2?
metal armor on padded armor
padded armor on clothes,
jackets on shirts
and so on
something like that?
so far theyre just working on the art end of it rather than the mechanics
layered armor would be great, but i figure they'd like to figure that out for themselves
They did explicitly state armor layers are coming
ok hear me out, again
bush armor, but with bees
dear god
oh, must've missed it !
Well yes but actually no, it depends
I’d love to see some feather-based armors!! Or at least be able to add a Plume to the helmet.
Maybe we can dye feathers too?
Or maybe add an untamable ‘pheasant’ mob to give decorative feathers as a better base than chicken feathers. (Can still dye the feathers tho.)
Or just dye chicken feathers. Either or.
a more advanced lamellar further up from mold casting in progression
Literally just the FA bear pelt armour design but in vanilla please.
honestly having an armour layer specifically for capes and things like that would be really sick
maybe some way to have capes/heraldry adapt to a layer dependant on what you have underneath it
a possibility to use medieval knight helmets (in example sallet or houndskull) with both open and closed face plates
I want 15th century hungarian armor
kinda crazy how reminiscent this is of dazzle camouflage
Okay but what about REAL bee armor?
how is it different then 15th century german style?
BeeMancer goes hard
Dazzle the enemy. A truck as old as war
really old truck
If my armor doesn’t hurt the eyes I don’t want it
detailed armor customisation in general would be sick, doesnt have to grant any benefit, just for aesthetics
i love the vibe of the goat mask, and i think a horned helmet would be fire
the german crossed helmet <3
antler helmet (again)
samurai armor
hood over helmet pls
Interesting
besagews in different shapes would be amazing or maybe something in moon shape
And you can even put them on helmets.
I would like the ability to have bear heads on my shoulders for armor
I mean about armpits only but yes, helmet, back of the neck, back and sides of helmet, on top of a glove
and mouth
Oh yeah, there is a very cool German reenactment group with somewhat active facebook page (a very fitting social media platform for long past history) and one of them has one for the mouth

I would like to suggest ancient Chinese armor style (this one is a mix of warring state and han dynasty influence)
