#Accessibility Settings for New Mushroom Effects

hi, I'm someone who gets motion sick pretty easily and is sensitive to bright lights. today when I was playing around in the new update, I ate a liberty cap, not knowing what it does, and the effects were very rough on my eyes and made me extremely nauseous, to the point I was worried I would throw up. I checked the tool tip on the mushroom itself afterwards and there was no warning about this. I've attached a picture of the liberty cap in the creative menu to show this.

I would like to request these two things.
A: there is an option added to accessibility settings that reduces these effects, especially the ones related to the bright almost pulsing lights
B: there is a warning tool tip added to the mushroom itself that lets a player know that it gives this type of visual effect.

I would rather it be in base game for people like me who play with very little mods than for it to be an accessibility mod, especially the tooltip part. If you have any questions or anything to add, please lmk

I was about to post a similar thing to this

There is already an accessibility waviness slider built into VS for the temporal storms, this does not change the mushroom affect (had a not susceptible friend try) but would be incredibly useful if it did!

That or a tag/warning for photosensitive as this affect can

  1. Induce seizures
  2. Induce migraines (which it personally does for me)
  3. Induce motion sickness

I simply wanted to raise awareness for the impact it can have on those of us who may have health conditions that can be triggered by fun effects like this otterblanky

💯
I don't personally suffer from photosensitivity, but the waviness and particularly the light intensifying effect liberty/wavy cap mushrooms produce - even on a single mushroom consumed - genuinely hurts my eyes
*so I can only imagine how much worse it is for someone who's sensitive!

photosensitivity warnings are bog-standard for a reason, at the bare minimum if there aren't any plans to change the hallucinogenic effect itself, there needs to be transparent labeling, and a slider the same as temporal storm waviness

I think a filter to replace the tweaking shader with just some text in the corner of your screen that switches between "dude your eyes are so red right now" "dude literally everyone knows your high dude literally everyone knows" "dude your mom just called and she sounds super mad" "dude literally everyone can read your mind except you dude literally everyone and we're all in on it dude literally everyone"

No text pop-ups like it's an Obisoft game, please

I’m delighted to see this thread get responses and activity! Thank you all :D

It would make things really simple on the player’s end too

I dont have photosensitivity. But I can see how this can be terrible for people who have it.

I really hope some type of accessibility slider/on&off button gets added for the "trip effect". 👋 😄

Even as someone who is physically ok with it, 100% this. It’s happened now twice, and both times it’s just “oh, I get to deal with this now :/ “

Have it so that it's almost exactly like the slider for the waviness during temporal storms where you have it default to the normal but can crank it to either extreme with one extreme being the feature is almost entirely disabled for people who need it to the other extreme for people like me who want to see what happens if you max it out.

At max waviness during temporal storms the landscape looks so cool. Me and my friends enjoy the silliness of these feature (waviness and the mushrooms) so a slider with both extremes would be perfect.

I don't struggle with the effects, but i do have a very sad potato computer, and both alcohol & mushrooms noticeably drop my framerate, idk if that's intentional or what but playing at 14-20 fps isn't super fun

And tangentially related, having to forage for food and all you can find are wavy caps or liberty caps is uh, an experience for sure

I can edit the Accessibility page of the wiki to warn which mushrooms have the trippy effect.

@lament blaze Has there been discussion about including a hallucinogen marker to the Handbook pages for trippy mushrooms?

It is quite literally called NoTripping

But yeah this sounds like it’s not ideal…

things like these should be an "onboarding" setting. after they are introduced, they should be the first thing the player sees when the game starts, like how many games make you choose brightness settings and stuff before you even see the menu.

i really disliked the temporal storm effect and it being hidden away in settings, i had to suffer through it for many hours. it doesnt cause any issues for me health wise but it made smithing during storms very annoying (the voxel aiming doesn't sync with the shader effect distortion)

To make sure it's known by the devs, there are plenty of people who like the distortion effects as well as the tripping effects. They're both really cool and immersive, but the mushroom tripping should have a slider like the temporal waviness where it can be off, less, or stronger as the player needs (or wants in relation to making it stronger).

Please do NOT get rid of temporal distortion and mushroom tripping, just continue to implement accessibility options.

# vivid narwhal Have you tried the mod Accessibility Tweaks?

I do think directing people to accessibility tweaks is nice, however there are servers like tops that don’t allow external mods client sided or not

I would argue that the glitch strength wavyness slider should apply to being drunk, low health, on the new mushrooms, and any involuntary mouse movements

I might not get motion sick from the mushrooms, but this is still a wonderful idea. Anything to make gaming more accessible :3
