#More Versatile Mechanical Components

In the spirit of the next update focusing heavily on machine power, I'd like to request some more versatile mechanical components which can be repurposed in creative ways, rather than have more narrow use cases. Components which could invite technical ingenuity from the player in the end game, be it through some sort of industrial production of materials or constructing some kinds of mini games through manipulating blocks and physics and machinery. As I see it, the survival side of the game mostly dominates the early game, after which I don't think it can naturally persist without artificial intervention, while the late stages of the game naturally incline themselves towards a stronger emphasis on creativity, both aesthetically and technologically. The more creative versatility in these areas, the more I think the gameplay can really flourish.

Treadwheel crane: a man powered hoisting device.

Spinning wheel. Azriel has a post on this.

Slitting mills: more efficient production of iron rods.

Automata: animated armour stand.

Also, drawbridge.

Which would fill a similar role to the conveyor belt in Create Mod. Physically transporting materials.

I’m thinking small components, like the size of a block, that can be combined in different ways for different purposes.

#

Maybe some stuff which can interact with axels and gears. Something that can activate or lock doors.

#

Some sort of target which you can activate by throwing rocks at it, since we have rock throwing as a basic mechanic.

It would be interesting , though probably not feasible given the game engine, (and crafting mechanics) for there to be a sort of toothed axel that can be slotted in, like a worm gear of sorts? This could allow for more diverse connections with existing gears, or even a block that can be run over the teeth of this gear-ish axel to make some sort of rudimentary movement

I’d like to see this stuff interact more with other types of components. Like doors, trigger mechanisms, maybe some sort of platform that can launch things into the air, etc.

#

Some types of mechanical actions which players might want:

  1. Moving / manipulating blocks or entities, either moving them one block space at a time or launching them in the air.
  2. Activating / deactivating mechanisms like doors or lights into on and off states.
  3. Transferring power or signals over large distances.
  4. Receiving or distributing items.
  5. Starting fires / dousing fires.
  6. Unleashing water, blocking water.
  7. Detecting entity motion or activity, or block state changes.

Just wanna say with regard to the new devlog, I'm HYPED.
