#Mod Request: Distance Fog / Atmospheric Haze

A well known aesthetic technique in visual art that adds a ton of depth and atmosphere, it would be great if blocks and entities would recede into a slight fog or haze in the distance, even on a clear day, emulating the natural atmospheric haze of the Earth. I’ve noticed that, even at large render distances in Vintage Story, there is a noticeable lack of atmospheric haze, which tends to make the landscape feel small and bland, and the only time you really see any atmosphere is during extreme sandstorms or rain storms. But as you can see from the image below, even on totally clear days water droplets present in the Earth’s atmosphere always create a visual separation between objects at long distances that adds a 3 dimensional sense of depth to the world and makes space and distance feel much larger and more grand.

Honestly surprised this isn’t a feature already.

I'd like it but only if it takes region stats (biome, temperature, humidity/precipation) into account. The haze is alright in temperate or colder regions/seasons when there's humidity but the one like in your pics would be awful and look very weird during/in hotter, dry periods/areas.
Even your "clear day" pic looks hazy from the standpoint of clear, sunny summer day in temperate or warmer regions of the world (at least the not foggy/humid ones).

Given the above, that may be one of the reasons - scaling and making the effect fit the region (and maybe also performance).
If I'd have such hazy view when in dry, hot, arid plains or some such, it'd look worse/less immersive than when I have no such feature at all

The farseer mod sort of makes this happen

would make vintage story really beautiful ngl

The game seems to have some slight fog effect but it doesn’t seem to be cumulative, seems to be an abrupt drop off right before things go out of render.

Mod Request: Distance Fog / Atmospheric Haze

#

This thread is now an explicit request for a mod. Hope someone can take it up.

#

Here are some demonstrations of a similar mod from the other block game.

base game would be nice though

I actually found that base game has an easy way to add a bit of fog. But you have to do it in the Ambient menu in Creative mode, under “Normal Fog Levels” you can adjust it from its default of 2 to something higher (3 feels right to me). But you can’t turn it on permanently, it will reset every time you load the world.

#

To turn it on permanently someone would have to create a mod.

#

But the setting is apparently extremely easy and accessible.

Okay i take it back. The Normal Fog Level does not reset every time you reload the world

#

so for anyone who wants a little bump of atmosphere, you can set the Normal Fog Level in creative mode, and it will remain at that setting for that world.

#

i think level 3 feels pretty natural

well this was easier to make than i expected

Is there any chance this concept could be done client-side?

Now that I see this is possible I might add a couple other unique fog weather conditions.
