I'm not sure how it would work with non branchy leaves but Id imagine it would need some art changes, i also feel this would make winter feel more eerie. In short i feel like it could maybe work like fruit tree's.

Have the beanchy leaf blocks stay but change texture. Yes you'll have a harder time collecting sticks in the winter if this gets implemented but honestly that's a sacrifice I'm willing to accept

could also make it so there's a few visual branches in the regular leafy blocks when it goes to winter so there's still volume to the tree, but the branchy blocks get a much denser amount of them

or do a middleground where it gets much more sparse but there is still a dead leaf texture so it at least looks much less full

Well to make it look good you would need some way to connect all the branches between the leaf blocks that makes sense

yeah 👀 surely it could be done with an alternate texture on the leaves, whose change is triggered by the outside temperature

branchy leaves could just be thick/densely sticked, and normal leaf blocks could be made up of thin/sparse sticks

but i dont know how complicated that is but cosmetically it'd be hugh effort coz that'd be minimum 3 new textures for 2 types of leaf blocks for all the types of deciduous trees 😅

it would be super immersive though
