#bad nimisin [:nimisin: jama - kama e jan Jami kepeken wawa pi ante nimi sama jan Kita]
1 messages · Page 26 of 1
i know lol its silli
oh sorry 😅
its the charachter for sewi (allah in arabic) with a thingy added that looks like the numeral 9
Indeed.
I even suggested a new article for sona pona about this nimisin, perhaps it is accepted by the mods because they are chill.
it needs more usage honestly
lon, wala!
tanwetuta - to prevent railway fatalities
Where did you even get that word from?
Etymology:
Australian English - "Dumb Ways To Die"
Ah, I see.
wala – alas
-# from voila
but- voilà doesn't mean alas
HEY I CAME UP WITH THE MEANING @static mirage
oh lol
i can add on it like you put very much in a negative amount and i put -20 or something idk
ok ig @ancient pine, @static mirage, and @steady sphinx all created it for the spelling, negative, and -20
I came up with the name
it would be grammaticaly incorrect lolol
ok but nute nute isn't -20*-20 so
!?
in what way??
oh wow I'm speaking so much toki pona that I accidentally said "in what way" as a literaltranslation of "tan seme"
or another way to say ala?
mmhm
HAHA
or mute nute
well... we kinda have to come up with more to fit the negative side...
or keep it at just that to make it a joke nimisin
which one??
oooohh
ig but this is funnier
lwk keep it as a joke please
oke a
I am back also I do think it should be considered grammatically incorrect to say mute nute or nute mute if it's going to be a joke word
@steady sphinx
why??
because it's hilarious
let me guess, only because it's a joke word?
yeah
what's the reason for it to be a word then??
you gotta put it in a sentence or something??

okay but the thing is there is a number system in toki pona
A J O K E
I DON'T CARE IF IT'S A JOKE I JUST WANT TO HYPOTHESIZE HOW IT WOULD GO AS A REAL WORD LIKE HOW ANY OTHER WORD IS JOKED ABOUT!!
what is happening in this thread
this message sums up this entire thing
This is by far and away the most unhinged thread on this server
Tbf in a good way, the stupid jokes are great
this reminds me of a certain 2 year old message
I have unfortunately not been here for two years
(In this discord I mean, I have been on this planet for more than two years)
it's in a different server anyway
omg same
ive also been on this planet for more than two years
we;re so alike
woah
you can add more tu to add exactly 2 to the definition
tutuja would be to have been on this planet for more than 4 years
this only works with tu
Remind me in 2 years to post a nimisin saying "
tuja - to have been on this planet long enough to understand this reference"
Can you schedule send messages?
mi tututututututututuja li tutututututututututuja ala
if you go to space or go to a different planet it resets
This is so incredibly funny.
how do you guys like my tokiponidos word

nah i'm gonna continue the polls
it's pretty definitively i, so should it have a coda n or no
first one to reply gets to decide
no coda n
so the first syllable is ki
this is shaping up to be a very tinny sort of word
kili
this isn't a nimisin but a meaning reform. basically no one uses kili on a day to day basis, so i thought of ways to make its meaning also have an abstract form like other words, and i came up with this:
when i think of an example of a random something, i think of apples. usually when people need an object to use as an example, they use an apple
so what if kili also meant example

the first letter is k. pick a vowel

O WUWOJITI
we should cram in as much u as possible
given we already started with "ki" i believe we would've already failed at that goal
just as an inocuous question, how long are you planning on making this word?
57th times the charm
that's a good point
i'm not actually sure
i guess 2 syllables since that's where most tp words end
have you considered 7 syllables?
i think it would be funny if it kept going until a poll gets 0 votes
i think at some point there has to be a [end word here] option for every subsequent syllable
my tokiponido has two nasins. while this may seem excessive, it has its perks
one of the nasins means "method." the other (talan) means "path"
when you're using nasin in toki pona to talk about metaphorical paths, it may be mistaken for a method. for example, someone's destiny is a type of metaphorical path, but not really a type of method
2 nasins kinda fix this problem
what do you think
is it just going to be kijetesantakalu
ok then
NUTE: Negative, -20 !!!JOKE WORD!!! (because im 99% sure theres already a system for that) nute mute or mute nute technically would mean the same as ala but ive decided it's grammatically incorrect because thats funny

This is the wrong forum, that's actually a good idea
Sounds unironically good.
Though I think I know how one could express the nuances of your nasin and talan without invoking a new word (not saying a new word wasn’t useful though!): ilo nasin (literally tool related to the path, to be red as method) and kule nasin (literally color of the path, to be interpreted as path in its metaphorical meaning) respectively.
For the LITERAL path, one could use just nasin. That’s at least how I’d solve the ambiguity.
Now obviously, in the latter substitution, the context would usually make it clear whether it’s the LITERAL color of the path or just the kind of path taken.
In case of a more philosophical path (a.k.a. a way of being, a school of thought or similar), one could just use kule toki (literally color of speech, to be read as way of thought; more explicit and less confusing would be kule pi toki insa translating to *color of internal speech [a.k.a. thought]).
Other similar expressions may exist.
In general, in case you couldn’t already tell, I personally use kule with the extended rough translations type of … and way of … where the ellipses are obviously the continuations of the phrase.
But looking at the substitutions I used here, it is clear just how ambiguous they are, oftentimes even WITH context.
doesn't ijo already fill this role?

anw (a/e/i), manj (a/e/o/u), pinj (a/e/o/u)
— pronunciation variants of the words anu, mani & pini, used before a word that starts with a vowel, so they do not break phonatactics* & r probably good for songs:3
So “manj anw ante” is pronounced /ˈman.j‿anˈw‿ante/
,,,btw the same can be also done to any nimisin that ends with ni/nu, like “ponj ale”
-# *the n becomes a final nazal in the previous syllable & the vowel i/u after it becomes j/w, the onset of the first syllable in the next word^^

The point of yupekosi is nobody knows how to pronounce it
one time some group of mongolians (not sure which) said their preferred tokiponization was "Monkoyo" so sonja made a joke about only them knowing how to pronounce <y> in toki pona
and then some mongolian spilled the beans on this server
Ohh

soweli suwi li ken mu e kalama ni!!
aaa toki mi li mi ala
its ma Monkoyo
that's only in "Monkoyo"
y differs by word
for example, in yutu it's dʒ
no it doesnt
i mean y is only defined for mongolians and i choose to pronounce it like all of the others
that can go for yupekosi and Monkoyo but Sonja (And mongolians) have no authority over yutu it's just personal choice
ala
third pronunciational variant of ale but it sucks because it's a homophone AND homogram
homograph?
al?
infinitely many pronunciation variants of ale. after the a vowel and l consonant, any sound you want can follow and it means ale
doesn't have to be a vowel, can be as long as you want, doesnt even have to be vocal. you can crash your car after saying al and it means that
example sentence
al 🚗 🎆 li pakala a la palisa lon insa sijelo mi

😭
Yeah, its kinda in the nature of tp that ppl dont want more words, nimisins only get accepted when there is literally no other way of expressing that concept
i mean there were ways of expressing tonsi before tonsi
mi la, nanpa 200 li tu ale la nanpa 40 li ken "tu mute":3
kin la, nanpa 60 li ken tu wan mute, + nanpa 80 li ken tu tu mute (sama nasin nanpa pi toki Kanse)

Like what?
"sijelo pi jan ni li mije. taso pilin ona li meli"
"jan ni li meli ala li mije ala"
you know, sentences
Ok but what about without mije/meli?
luckily these words exist so we don't need to act as if they didn't
Yeah, but like the reason we accepted mije/meli/tonsi is because we need those terms to express stuff, and it would be an inherent bias in the language if we didnt have tonsi
this also applies to soko and n

nimi sona
an idiomatic phrase (a phrase in which the meaning cannot be fully derived from the words that make it up, for example in English: fried egg, cried wolf)
-# Etymology: From Toki Pona nimi + sona
is there a meaning to fried egg other than an egg that is fried
scrambled eggs aren't fried eggs despite being eggs that are fried
I got into an argument with someone about this lol
amapisa
to get into an argument about the definition of a fried egg
amapisala
to not get into an argument about the definition of a fried egg
did they claim that any egg that has been fried is a fried egg?
if so i don't really blame them, even though they're wrong

honestly the concept of documented humorous nimi sin is pretty funny to me now that i am more immersed in the actual toki pona culture that creates them, it's like, somebody made a random joke a few years ago, but because there were like 1/3 of the tokiponists there are now that joke gets to be enshrined into the linku sanbox and sona pona for the rest of time, even though it's not any funnier or more culturally relevant than the ones people make nowadays
