toki kule: precisely express hexcodes.

  1. HOW IT WORKS
    a) Start with "walo" or "pimeja". This determines whether you'll be subtracting from white or adding to black. Use walo for lighter colours and pimeja for darker ones. Add "pi" to separate.
    b) You'll be using 3 root words: loje, kasi, and laso, but first determine your 256'es. What this means is you need to express a color made of only FF's and 00's. For example, the color #FF00FF (pure magenta) ends here, as it is walo pi kasi. (or pimeja pi loje laso) Add "pi".
    c) Sharpen colors. You need all of your codes at this point to be expressed in multiples of 16. (and FF) For example, D0A060 is walo pi laso pi loje tu wan kasi luka laso luka wan ala (the ala there is to show that you're adding 6 times 16, not subtracting it) Add another "pi".
    d) Sharpen colors again. This time you're working with your second digits. Just do what you did in c.
    e) You're done!
  2. EXAMPLES
(also: Don't add more that 8. It's better to add 1 from the upper tier and subtract. also if you don't do anything in a step just write lon)
#FFABAB = walo pi kasi luka laso luka pi kasi luka ala laso luka ala

you forgot something: len for the opacity

#

also i love how the example colour is "hupa" (colour #FFABAB)

i don't understand step (c) and beyond, but this is neat
if you use CMY instead of RGB, you can use laso/loje/jelo instead of loje/kasi/telo

#

could you give an example that's just 00, FF, and 7F?

fickle radish
#

basically you repeat b

#

but instead of 256

#

you say how many 16's you want

#

same with d

#

how i think of it:
a) and b) - setting the approx. color
c) - determining first hex digits
d) determining second hex digits

#

is seven hex del such a needed number tho?

#

i understand del hex del

#

oh wait seven hex del is one less than half of a hegex

#

that makes sense

i’m went thru the process for your second example—but the color i get is #ffa5a5 and not #ffabab? am i doing something wrong

#

here’s my process, description following in a moment

#

a)

  • walo, i.e. start with #ffffff
    b)
  • no words here so the color stays unchanged
    c)
  • subtract 5 from the first Green digit to get #ffaXaX (kasi luka; since we started with white, numbers are subtracted by default)
  • subtract 5 from the first Blue digit and get #ffaXaX (laso luka)
    d)
  • add 5 to the second Green digit to get #ffa5aX (kasi luka ala; ala at the end = add instead of subtracting)
  • add 5 to the second Green digit to get #ffa5a5 (laso luka ala)
    e)
  • i should have #ffabab now tho???
fickle radish
#

the ala part means you invert

#

wait hang on i messed up

#

oop

#

it is supposed to be 6 in c and no ala's in d

lethal tinsel
#

so like this?

#

a)

  • walo, i.e. start with #ffffff
    b)
  • no words here so the color stays unchanged
    c)
  • subtract 6 from the first Green digit to get #ffaXaX (kasi luka wan; since we started with white, numbers are subtracted by default)
  • subtract 6 from the first Blue digit and get #ffaXaX (laso luka wan)
    d)
  • subtract 5 from the second Green digit to get #ffabaX (kasi luka)
  • subtract 5 from the second Green digit to get #ffabab (laso luka)
    e) looks correct now!
