The adventures in the desert and the whale are cut short because they dont matter for Omori the character, there is no reason for him to go there and do things, the point of the journey was lost two chapters ago.

some parts dont pick up where they left off properly when comparing it to the game too and its just difficult to read esp with a lot of gaps in time between chapters

However, I think the fast pace of this chapter works in itself as part of the direction.

One can have mixed opinions and still like the manga. Personally I'm loving the new discoveries it allowed me to make in terms of creations. I started reading Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan (The Old Man Reincarnated as a Villainess) and I'm now in love with that kind of wholesome manga.
Omori is something I still love dearly even if sometimes I'm a bit more worried than I'd like about the manga. I still believe we willl get 5-6 volumes though so I look forward what will probably be extra content we didn't explore so far since we're rapidly approacing the end of the game and I can see Nui focusing on that.
