I hope not a lot of people can relate to Basil. I absolutely love him, but his codependency tendencies and abandonment issues are as unhealthy as possible, main reason I think he and Sunny need a generous break between the... 'good' ending and whenever they'll eventually meet again. I'm writing Basil right now in fic material and he's just so difficult to get down because the boy has so many issues that the self imposed isolation amplified to ridicolous levels and that went boom when his grandma died + the illusion everything could go back to normal eventually was shattered by Sunny leaving.

I love, LOVE Basil so much but I believe he's the one who needs therapy the most in the entire group, which is saying a lot.

But I am VERy happy to come here and see someone say it was a 'peak' chapter 🙂 I also really enjoyed it.

I think Nui's style IS getting better, the many faces Sunny makes are just hilarious, Basil had a much better design in that little flashback and even the hair is better

I also genuinely enjoy the focus on Aubrey. give me all the extra content to work with!

speaking of extra content, I PRAY we get more Basil. Unironically, I believe he's one of the less developed characters we see in Real World. We see the various incarnations of him in headspace, true, but we see relatively little of the real Basil during the three days if we take the Sunny route.

And when we see him, we often see him near his breakdown points too

The 'Basil' we see all wise and calm and 'we can do it' is ALL in Sunny's mind. and it's based on the Basil he knew when he was 12. It's clear things changed a lot, Basil is a lot more broken, hurt, trying his best despite the situation but also- definitely NOT someone who'd say 'everything is going to be okay' with the inner peace the one in Headspace seems to have. He's afraid, scared, delusional, so many things that I'd do anything to see more of.

now, Kel is my favorite. BUT if I had to choose a single character to follow during the four years? it'd be him. MAYBE Hero, but Basil? Oh, Basil had it SO rough.

but even if they were rich, they're clearly not providing their son the thing he seems to need the most, which is emotional support and structure- which probably brought in how strongly they seem to want whatever the dynamic back in the pre-incident was.

We know he wasn't okay even then, he 'vented' to sunny often.

I am begging for more content about Basil, I REALLY am, all the time, and it kills me when more is mostly him being unhinged in the manga or uwu baby

Take the 'we got your album back' part alone. In the game It's Polly welcoming the two boys, she's the one doing most of the socializing, Basil is half hiding away. It shows he's uncomfortable even with those he should/seems to love the most

Okay, so from a scale of most to least. What character is the most butchered in the manga?

People talk about Sunny, Basil, and Aubrey. But is it just me, or do I feel Hero's character is also kind of lacking in the manga? Like, yeah, sure, he's not the character with the most depth in the game or anything, but I feel like there's something wrong with his character here, and I can't pinpoint why.

Okay, so scanning over the manga, I sorta have an idea of why Hero sucks here. One of his fundamental character traits doesn't exist. That it's his nature to always blame himself and feel responsible for any problem that happens. Like, for example, after they rescued Basil from the lake, Hero's reaction to Aubrey's change and the event felt off.
He was like 'Oh! I guess this girl is Aubrey, and she changed her hair color' or smthing like that. His game counterpart expressed guilt and felt responsible for not being able to prevent the situation between Basil and Aubrey, and how much Aubrey had changed. This is not the only time. Unlike a lot of people here, who seemed to have liked the flashback between Kel and Hero. I wasn't the biggest fan of it. A lot of it is just Hero bashing Kel on how clueless and an idiot he is. And it feels like it focuses a lot on the Kel angst than the Hero. We never in fact know that Hero blames himself for Mari's death, OR that he didn't visit her grave because he couldn't face his mistake of not being able to notice her mental issues.

His headspace counterpart is literally just malewife material and Mari's bf

That's it. There are no other traits.

It's small, a bit far-fetched, but it still conveys, like, the game's second most prominent message - grief can make you selfish.
