It's hinted heavily the friend group doesn't know about sunny's phobias and given the memory of sunny being ON the statue and getting ready to jump? I think Kel just thought 'oh yeah sunny CAN swim' and was really shocked otherwise when sunny didn't jump back up with basil.

Ok I have a break imma YAP. So this chapter I loved, I loved seeing the nuance with Aubrey, but I was a little off put by the hooligans. They added a lot of depth to the game subtly by kind of giving us an outside perspective of the town and made the town feel real. I wish we had a freaking fight scene.
Then, you guys now know I’m a chicken leg hater. I try separatingthe art from the artist but I wish they’d stop giving them chicken legs 🦵 and booty shorts. That’s all I want man. It’s uncomfy.
That being said, horror art was peak and I felt there was more background art than usual (but lost library background arc was BEAUTIFUL OMG IT WAS AMAZING!) so I am hoping the artist will do that more and I’m glad they are!
I loved how Aubrey instantly seemed remorseful about shoving Basil into the lake and was freaking out about it, it really adds to her and Basil’s depth of previous friendship. I like her taunts I find them somewhat realistic- a little dramatic- but she is 16 and I was a dramatic fuck at 16 so I get it and can’t really shame it.
I also like how we see how desperate Basil is to help Sunny and keep him out of harms way. Maybe he blames himself to the point of thinking he deserves this and doesn’t want Sunny to have to suffer because of his existence or unwilling to step in. That being said I loved it because Sunny did not step in and admit fault to the album and Basil got plunged into the lake as a result. Kel holding Aubrey back was good, we don’t need to be told what to do bc it isnt a game, and I feel neutral. Either or could have worked with him telling him to save Basil or not. Aubrey looks like she’s struggling and her arms remain sticking out. Sunny is a Chad and jumps in which was a great touch because it shows although he’s maybe not brave enough to confront Aubrey he still cares enough about Basil to not let him die. (These are rambles I have like two mins left of class break)

Ultimately I’m fucking pumped because I think we will get an Aubrey arc and we REALLLLY need that. She’s mischaracterized by so much of the fandom and who knows, maybe it’s good it wasn’t subtle because half the fandom couldn’t even read between the lines in the game

So I have (what is mostly a story about Kel's inner child and his struggle to keep it while maturing) Kel being basically wanting to forgive but even he knows his emotion cannot do that, Aubrey is searching for a sign what to do, should she be more angry or more forgiving and trying to see from Kel and Hero what to do, while Hero os wallowing is self-pity because why he hates them he cannot punish them, his heart is too good to have that much hatred for 2 children

I will explain that in the Japanese version, Aubrey's lines always referred to him as "Basil".
And if Aubrey called him pansy in the English version, I would interpret it like this:

1. They wanted to further emphasize and exaggerate Aubrey's bullying qualities.
2. Pansy is the name of a plant, so it was a good way to satirize Basil (although saying it was good might be misleading).

However, after she drops Basil into the lake, there is only one scene in which she shows a look of "I didn't mean it," which shows that she hasn't completely lost her kindness. (However, I don't know how bad the English version of the lines are, so I can't explain that.)

For now, what I'm concerned about is the group hug.
A while ago, I thought that if a group hug was depicted in the manga, Sunny would never make the expression she has in the game stills (||because of the culprit in the black photo||).
But this time, ||realizing that she is the culprit in the black photo, she has already made an expression of despair||.
Depending on future plot developments, there is even a possibility that the group hug will be cut.
