First of all, I was worried that some people might be upset because waking up in Kel's house was a completely different experience to how it played out in the game.

Also, since it is a manga, it is impossible to reproduce the game exactly (due to publishing restrictions), so Kel's mother was exaggerated, which gave the impression that she was not a very good parent. I thought this was not good.

Surprisingly enough, waking up in Kel's bed was not taken negatively! Personally, I find it a sweet touch. We know things are different than the game at this point but it makes sense Kel would keep an eye on Sunny.

On Kel's mother: It's far more subtle in the game, but in the english version it's already clear she's not in the best relationship with Kel. His dad seems to be in best terms, but there is more than one small instance where it's evident Kel is not fully comfortable around her (again, at least its true in the english version) where he seems more comfortable around the dad.

Like in case of Aubrey's mom, though, it was exaggerated for the sake of making it clear in a manga format, while the game offer you a lot more external clues and bit to make your own opinion on the matter.

Positives:

  • Nui's art improved. People are happy characters do look a bit older and I'm with them. Overall, beside a few specific spots, people do agree there has been an improvement. Polly's design seems to be especially appreciated, I am more focused on how CUTE Kel is. I want to pat his head.
  • Stab sequence? Very cool
  • Personal opinion here: I find LOVELY that even if Kel took Sunny home, he DID notice Basil being upset before leaving and his priority is checking on him as well as soon as he made sure Sunny is fine. That's my emotionally smart kid.

Negatives:

  • There is confusion on the fact that apparently Basil left Sunny on the bathroom floor and left. (In the english version, Kel does say 'Polly found you, I took you home', which implies Basil didn't tell them Sunny fainted.
  • The bit about Sunny's Lost Library felt very rushed. No one (and I mean no one) I know had anything to say about the big panel with Basil. Overall, Basil's presence in there felt 'too much' since in game his absence is a big driving point and the way it was drawn felt off putting for many people

Another positive is how sweeter Kel and Sunny's relationship is? Kel is upset due to his mom and Sunny DOES notice unlike the manga and Kel is quick to put on a brave mask for him. I think it says a lot about Kel's character, even if it's spelled less subtly than the manga.

I wish, though, Sunny had a better relationship with Basil? When Kel wants to go look for him, he seems reticent to join them and overall Sunny doesn't seem fond of Basil in general (speaking of the manga so far) which is... confusing to me?

Overall it was a short chapter so not much was said. STILL, I do enjoy the art style a bit more!

This is a typical Japanese manga expression, so I don't know if you'll understand, but I felt that Nui was particularly good at drawing manga in the scene between Kel and his mother.
While Kel is being scolded by his mother (it's no exaggeration to say that he is being compared to Hero), Kel's expression is hidden by showing the speech bubble and his back. This was a very good psychological depiction. Immediately afterwards, Sunny's concern makes his expression change to a smile for the first time. I think it's a wonderful depiction.

I'm glad that they gave a reason for the transition to Headspace in a different way than in the game, that is, "collapsed in the bathroom of Basil's house."
This is the same reason why Sunny transitioned to White Space in the first episode of the manga after slashing Aubrey. Even when Sunny is awake, he has a Headspace inside him.

Kell's mother speaks very fast and in a rapid-fire manner. I know this is a bad way to put it, but I felt a bit hysterical even in the game.

Overall, I liked the 'Kel's mom' bit. Personal opinion, of course. I think Nui did well for how limited the whole section had to be. The 'you should be more like your brother' encompasses perfectly the general feeling the game gives of her and Kel's relationship

If I were to lose all my memories of the OMORI game, the frequent appearance of Basil would lead to the question, "Why does Basil, who is absent in the spiritual world, appear so often?" Also, if I had no memories of the OMORI game, I would know nothing about Mari's death. Multiple mysteries would dominate my mind. This would affect the emotion of fear.

After Mari's death, when Kel called out to the depressed Hero, Hero got angry at him. Later, in the game, Kel explained that his parents cared about Hero, not Kel.
This is one of the few sentences that explains how his parents treated Hero and Kel. During the few days he spent with Sunny, Kel's parents weren't such bad people, but it seems like I exaggerated a bit from the facts I just described. However, it seems a bit more realistic when you consider that OMOCAT was also supervising this. A younger brother compared to an excellent older brother.

Another PERSONAL opinion here: I love Kel and Polly's interaction. She seems down and he does reach for her. I find charming how we see him act when others are doubting themselves: OMOCAT did say he puts other's feelings before his own and there he's ignoring his worry for Basil to reassure her full force. His expression changes from 'concernet' to 'happy and positive fellow reassuring Polly all is good' and then, only when he's back without her around, he shows his worried self once more.

I think the game handles it better. Basil is a presence you seek for. the 'why is he gone?' is a question lingering in the back of people's heads and the characters don't truly forget about him or the fact they're looking for him until past the Last Resort. Here everyone already forgot Basil Existed, basically, so it feels like Nui is forcing their own hand to show 'oh he's there' while I think it'd be more efficient if the mystery was still open and she just offered us glimpses of him around the place and maybe OMORI reacting to his presence (like, he thinks he spotted him, turns around but he sees no one while we readers can check the previous page and see Stranger in the background)?
This is how I would do it at least, I'm no very familiar with manga NOR a professional, though.

At least the library scene is right before Sunny wakes up, so I took it to mean that OMORI and Sunny have merged slightly.
HS Basil also appears at this point in the library scene in the game.
A big difference from the game is that Basil himself speaks about his desire for salvation. (In the game, after looking towards OMORI, something is depicted in his eyes, he makes a terrified expression, and then OMORI goes into the white space.)

As for the green wallpaper in the room, I don't think it's a problem, since Hero was born first and the room was only for Hero at first. Is it normal to change the wallpaper when Kell is born? (In America)
As for the trophies taking up more than half of the room, I don't know if the parents were involved. It's true that the impression I get from the image of this room, the comments in OMOCAT, and the way the parents treated him in the game seem to indicate that Hero was given more attention than Kell.
But honestly, I think there just wasn't enough space in the room. Considering that the closet for the Kell figure was placed in the hallway. I think it's better to keep the trophies in the same place as much as possible.

Oh, I am not american but I don't think that's the case. I find inteesting that OMOCAT, who pays a lot of attention to small details. went from green to blue in the final version though. Another strong 'Hero's presence is stronger here' bit. I am not sure how familiar you are with color theory, though, but Orange and Blue are also complementary colors. Opposites. There is a iot that can be said about that.
(I do like the bit that complementary colors shine the best together, though! Because the two brothers love each other dearly and I do feel like their bond truly makes them shine.)
For the trophies you do have a point though. I still think it's a good visual storytelling bit that the first thing in front of the entrance is Hero's biggest one, though

Those are complementary. They're not absence of color. They're 'this is a mix of two of the base colors we can perceive and there it is the one we have not in it'. None of the characters in this game are perfect.
The fact that Kell is the only one to recover suggests that he may have felt lonely.
Kell is mentally strong, but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel lonely, or that he doesn't get hurt. When I think about Kell, I feel sad, just like I do about his other friends.

Like. For me all characters have some level of undiagnosed mental issues. I made a whole essay for WORK about (good) representation of schizophrenia in video games (again, I work healthcare) and Sunny was my main example even if it's never 'canon'. Aubrey has anger related issues, Hero may struggle with depression even in the current times and be as good as Kel as masking it (as we see it from the few times the mask slips) and Basil... Basil is an interesting person because he may have some trauma induced psychosis + delusions running on.

@compact peak I figured out why Basil bothers me so much in the manga's HS. He's so desperate and sad and everything, there, but one of the most horrific parts for me is how innocent and unaware he seemed most of the fragments. THAT hit harder than any 'help me please' where Omori is looking at him.

Devoured by spiders? Calls for help, you can't even turn around (well, you can but Basil will always behind Omori, meaning Omori never even bother looking back at him).
Elevator? Calls for help, IS STILL ALIVE After the scene (He groans?), Omori leaves

isn't this how they are in game tho? This is even shown on the emotion type chart. Aubrey dealt with mari's death by joining a gang and was pissed to find Sunny, Hero cried and shut himself in for like a year, and Kel tries to stay positive in almost a toxic way

I get what you mean though. They put a lot of emphasis on Kel being the less liked child compared to Hero, especially witht he interaction with the mom.

The OMORI manga cannot be enjoyed along with the wonderful music of the OMORI game. This is one of the drawbacks I was concerned about when it came to the medium of manga.

Judging from the reactions of many people, I think that's true.
Many people were confused by the different developments and timeline from the game.
If it had been an unofficial fan-made work, no one would have read it without complaint. But this is an official manga. I have to say that the bar was set much higher. But what kind of manga would overcome that bar exists only in the minds of each individual.

For the manga being official- I don't think any media can truly replicate OMORI. It's just special that way. I think any form of media was going to have issues in recreating it- as much as I complain about the pacing, I am at least fully aware it's a difficult challenge
