it doesnt look for save files in steam's userdata but for video settings, it looks for a file called shared_user_settings.dat in documents/my games directory 😒

Not necessarily so. You got several modes you can play in, from sandbox to science, where you have to build up on experiments and grow your space center, while making money to build bigger and better.
