To run it, select Forge since it's for mods, and you're good to go. For a private server, if you want to play locally, you can host the server via the ESC menu. well first of all its whole another game inspired by minecraft/voxels...it adds hard survival aka you actually need to grind for metal tools instead of just getting best gear in one afternoon, has realistic recepies for things basically whole game is more realistic similar to what terrafirma craft mod does to minecraft, it has mehanics aka windmill to gears to some autimatic process (but cant comment on that too much since i havent gotten to it yet), it has really nice support for builders aka "better block resolution" like chisel mod is for minecraft..most importantly imo it runs better than minecraft if you compare how mc looks vs vintage story...
