I think it would be interesting to have a slot dedicated for 2IC. I believe it would encourage squad leads to use FTLs in different situations, encourage Teamwork, and give more responsability to the FTL . In addition, it would help with coordination and decision making in the squad when Squad lead is down or Returning From Base. I also believe it would be a good stepping stone for SL perms and good practice for squad leading and decision making for aspiring SLs

I mean you can just have 2 FTLs and the SL can nominate one of them to be a 2IC

Making one of the FTL slots a 2IC doesnt really change the dynamic of the squad, it just means that one of the roles is dedicated to being 2IC

Besides the whole point of an FTL is to lead a fire team, idk what other situations you would use an FTL for other than leading their own fire team

What would probably make more sense based on your thinking would be to drop FTLs all together and have an SL and an ASL and they each control a 'fireteam' but that wouldn't happen especially with the modern-day Army doctrine for the make-up of a rifle squad but really that's why there is an Alpha and a Bravo fireteam so succession of command goes from SL > Alpha > Bravo

Usually in a military squad the bravo fireteam leader is the senior, though not always the case, in practice on the server it’s usually whoever steps up first. If they don’t want to lead, then don’t take fireteam lead.
