#Thoughts about Server TO&E

I want to start off stating that I am having a blast on the sever and am amazed by the large percentage of active duty or former military players considering it is an open ArmA Community.
However the Server has a lot of unused potential that could easily be taken advantage of with easy to implement organizational changes.

The fact that the only mission we have in Liberation is attack, which requires the least amount of infantry, cannot easily be influenced without changing the whole Server to a more "Patrol Operations" style gamemode featuring defense, search an destroy, security operations, etc.
However, and this one is an easy fix, infantry gameplay is further deteriorated by the current Company Organization focusing on simplicity and beeing able to choose whatever role one wants instead of having a rational organization.

In the past weeks I have had countless occasions of Butcher Bradleys transporting half a squad towards a new tasking while the rest is sitting ducks or following on foot. I have had two Bradleys assigned to my squad assaulting a base in pretty open terrain, where the most sensible thing was to mount up in the vehicles and only dismount once at the objective. Defying "infantry-centered-gameplay". I have taken part in an airborne operation where Abrams and Bradleys were already operating in the landing zone, etc... Generally 1-6's tend to hang back drawing lines on the maps, detached from actually leading the Squads. (This may be amplified by the absence of 6-6's)

Therefore I suggest reorganizing the force in one of the following ways:

#

1:
On maps that feature a lot of complex terrain As Air Assault infantry, removing (almost) all ground vehicles and having all troop movements, reinserts and resupply missions carried out via helicopter. Facilitating heavy use of mortars, artillery and CAS to assist infantry when needed. Apart from boosting rifle squad gameplay this would lead to the following major changes:

1-8: Finding HLZ's that are not too hot but still as close as possible to infantry and objectives. Finding and altering of flight routes to deconflict them with other traffic, direct and indirect fires, CAS, enemy SA threats. Having more calls for fire or CAS than previously. The amount of workload would probably lead to several players as JTAC/FAC, FIST and/or JFO's.

1-4: Without ground vehicles they would be upgraded as beeing the base of fire for the company again. It would also be possible to have part of a weapons company facilitating TOW's, HMG's, GMG's and Javelins if neccesary.

Savage: Implement a 60mm mortar Squad that leaves the FOB and deploys forward with the infantry, similar to Company level mortars in the Army.

2:
On maps that are very open and and with many players interested in playing as butcher as part of an Armor Company Team having a Tank Platoon/Section and a Bradley Platoon (of course having 1-6 and 1-7 leading the Bradleys and dismounts).
M240's, MAAWS, Javelins in the vehicles to be used as intended by command.

3:
Probably easiest to implement and closest to the current playstyle. Have a Stryker Rifle Platoon with every Squad having a dedicated Stryker (1-6, 1-7, and 1-9 are of course also mounted on the vehicles) providing organic mobility, limited fire support, ammunition and supplies (no more dragging around hundreds of kilos or tons in a "weapons crate") and weapons locker for MAAWS or Javelins.

The different playmodes could be selected every new map by server staff depending on the map type or directly by the community via a poll. I think this would potentially bring a lot of variety and fun to the Server.

The cool thing about this server is you can do pretty much all of the above. It’s down to the individual platoon leads and availability of the public for what to do and when to do it.

There are maps where certain assets are taken out/put back in to balance the game/map.

For your third point, buy more strykers.

  1. Removing vehicles would give us less mobility while IMO we need more mobility and more vehicles for each squad.
#

1-8 already does this as far as i know and that is also why there is now 2 slots for 1-8 to divide the work

#

1-4 still operates as a weapons squad, but need vehicles to carry their resupply crates because they need to have extra AT, AA and ammo on hand. And ultimately it is up to 1-6 and 1-4 squad lead how exactly they want to play the squad, being within SOPs of course.

#

Savage can deploy into the field with their mortar

#

But since we already have M777 using a mortar is just being downgraded as the targeting calculation takes roughly the same time with any arty asset.

#
  1. We did have Butcher dismount squads in the past, but they were only scarcely used since we need full frontline squads and there just isnt enough people to go around.
#

I am up for getting back the javelin in some form though!

  1. Having a different gamemode is not easy to implement without coding, scripting and a lot of work, there is a gamemode you were maybe describing at the beginning called Hearts and Minds, but this is radically different than Liberation and Focuses more on individual squad tactics doing patrols instead of a platoon attacking enemy held territory. Not sure that the majority of Liberation players here would want to switch over.

Air assaults are done occasionally but it is up to somebody to organize them and lead them. The reason bradleys take only half a squad is because only half a squad fits into a Bradley at one time. Like you said you would need 2 Bradleys to transport a full squad but we do not have 2 Bradleys online that often. But when they are it definetly can be done, 1-6 just needs to assign them to that task.
