#Jersey Numbers

I think it would be pretty cool to be allowed to wear any jersey number, the way high school, college, and the NFL do.

heavy anvil
#

I call dibs on #3 at LB

dusk lantern
#

I agree

ashen palm
#

@spiral junco We keep the old rules for broadcast reasons. We only get the one camera angle and the concise numbering helps the broadcasters identify players better.

dusk lantern

@ashen palm 😂

spiral junco
#

Bummer.

Fair enough

vale pebble

I can read numbers good.

#

All the numbers, some would call me the best number reader

@ashen palm do a vote with all broadcasts we got really good ones I don't think they would have a problem at all with numbers

glad isle
#

Im interested in @upbeat ingot 's opinion

glad isle
#

I think this is an owners vote thing anyways

wind scroll
#

@glad isle should be a broadcaster / live stats person vote it would effect them the most

glad isle
#

Well, it isn't, so.

#
Each franchise has the right to propose new rules to be added to the rule book or changes to existing rules.
These rules and changes will be voted on by the entire SFL ownership group
pseudo bluff
#

I'm not against the idea - but I do like inferring what ones role is based on their jersey number. Just kinda aligns to what I see on nfl sundays.

wind scroll
#

@pseudo bluff u do realize nfl let's players wear any number right?

junior mason
pseudo bluff
wind scroll
#

Nah it's wide open

#

Nfl changed the rule last season

pseudo bluff
#

huh - looks like its more flexable then I thought, but still appears to be constrained somewhat (e.g. DBs can choose from 1 to 49)

https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-passes-rule-expanding-eligible-jersey-numbers

NFL.com

NFL owners have approved several new rule changes, including the expansion of eligible jersey numbers, the expansion of booth-to-official communication and the elimination of overtime in the preseason, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.

wind scroll
#

Yeah and I think linebackers are 1-59

glad isle
#

So does Andy as well I guess

#

It's been a busy day

#

Tldr it's up to owners

wind scroll
#

I truly hate that if it even goes to vote that the owners will have it just because not all owners do broadcast and or stats so vote should go to the people it would effect the most the broadcasters/stats people

glad isle
#

I suppose the NFL faltered by not asking broadcasters and players as well then?

wind scroll
#

Let's say hypothetically owners vote yes for it and the broadcasters absolutely hate it because it's hard for them to identify players that would suck and our broadcasting would suffer from it

glad isle
#

This isn't a democracy. Owners in conjunction with guidance from league staff make the rules of the league. Nobody has even proposed this as a change.

nimble crystal
#

The owners pay quite a bit of money to own a team... They should have voting rights in my opinion.

remote anchor
#

I think the broadcasters would adapt just fine. I would have no issue seeing the number rule changed.

shell ginkgo
#

I’d love to rock a single digit honestly.

spiral junco

Literally any single digit on any position would be hard. I personally think our number rules should align with the NFL. I don't think it would be a tough obstacle to overcome.

wind scroll
#

@spiral junco we are severely out numbered its pretty much a lost cause

spiral junco
#

Nah I wouldn't say lost cause. We just need a franchise to propose the number rule be changed and hope the owners hear their players out on what we would like to see.

#

There's nothing wrong with having a discussion about it.

real sky
heavy anvil
#

Yes. Mostly their size and length makes a 3-3 look like a 3-4 or a Dime look like 4-2 or 4-2 a 4-3. Big safeties in this league.

42 for me will always be a number wearing because of Jackie Robinson. and it was my number in bowling🎳

I've got my dad's number and my high school number, so I can't complain.

vale pebble
#

I got a hitchhikers reference for my number

#

Like I don't think a lot of player would switch from their current numbers if universal numbers were adopted, but I know a couple that would

glad isle
#

I enjoy having 69

#

for my players number

raven gorge
#

If the owners cared about the broadcasters, they would stop it with the ridiculous dark-numbers-on-dark-jersey uniforms. Just because your numerals are trimmed in yellow doesn’t mean anyone not in the game can read them!

I am an Owner and I dont care about broadcasters

And I'm a Broadcaster and that offends me Mr. Hamilton

#

Well you sir are a right twit

#

Gasp

#

I cant believe we dont see eye to eye

#

I think we have more in common than you could ever imagine

#

I doubt that

#

there is one thing we absolutely can agree on though

#

Oh?

#

That Cade Stephens was in bounds

#

AH

#

Dont you agree?

#

Of course. Cade Stephens was easily and absolutely in bounds

Oh no. Andy vs Andy has begun

Which one is the clone?

Probably Andy

Andy arguing with himself is the most SFL thing I've seen this season and I love it... more more MORE! 😃

sour dagger
#

I think current NFL ruling would be good. WRs with #1? Sure. QB with #69? Well, that is the exception, sure. #73 on a QB? Nah

real sky
#

Yeah current rules don't expand 69 avaliablity 😔

#

Also man the NFL putting H-Backs on their position list sure shows how much that stuff has changed

#

Poor fullbacks

junior mason
#

*I saw that bc your last 2 examples arent allowed

real sky

!doyle

sour dagger
#

Yea so what i mean is that I would be totally fine if the league moved to the current NFL ruling set

junior mason
#

I just woke up

#

Pardon me for confusing you two

sour dagger
#

I'm totally fine with a LB wearing #8 or a TE wearing #17. Allowing "any number" is kind of weird though. What if a WR chooses #65? That would be weird as hell

junior mason
#

The NFL system is dope

#

HOWEVER I'd be open to allowing the number 0 as well

#

Its in the game people!

real sky
#

also, I'm sure @sour dagger you know from people commentating on MXC games that numbers in the current situation doesn't stop people from saying "there's 4 wide receivers on the field" or whatever(your fault for having those ace formations on the field), just saying 😏

sour dagger
#

Right

wind scroll
#

If you are for number change go vote on siwyc server we are losing 8 to 6

#

@sour dagger as a broadcaster how do u think u would adjust that's the only push back because the DC said it would make it hard on yall

sour dagger
#

You get familiar with players as a broadcaster, too

wind scroll
#

@sour dagger yea I thought the biggest adjustment would be just getting used to players new numbers if they change

#

But I wouldn't advocate for changing numbers mid season tho it would have to be in offseason

I totally think 77 on a HB would go so hard! 🤣 I now need this in my life!

karmic lotus
#

Only number I'd want to change to would be 57, and under current NFL rules that's not ever allowed 😕 However, in all honesty I'd be fine with them staying as-is

I strongly dislike the current NFL rules regarding jersey numbers...

heavy anvil
vale pebble
#

Time to propose this next owners meetings for the funsies of it

glad isle
#

All players must wear 69 on their jersey

vale pebble
#

This is exactly how I will phrase it

#

I will be exempt from the rule because I am based

glad isle
#

owned by facts and logic

vale pebble
#

Actually side note, is 00 or 0 in APF? I'd be open to letting those numbers be worn too

vale pebble
#

Okay, I'd say add 0 onto the positions that can take 1-49 and 00 to anyone who can go up to 99

#

Or looking at it I may limit 0 to offense and 00 to defense since LBs can take both 0 and 00

modern scaffold
#

Should offensive linemen be able to wear 00 since Jim Otto was a center?
