It's that super fake surround sound.. The engine DTS on the 7's were so much better than Sonar.. BUT.. The 7+ does have a wide sound stage so technically you can turn off surround in Sonar and still hear footsteps behind you 🙂

If you're using Sonar, make sure sound defaults are set correctly.. Should be Sonar Gaming for your main audio.. Since I don't have the Nova, I'll suggest basic troubleshooting in case they operate similar to the other headsets

I just got my Nova Pro wired and have hooked it up to my Xbox Series X and laptop. I've been messing around with the settings in Sonar and have a sound profile that I like but when I switch the USB input back to Xbox on my Gamedac it reverts back to the 16bit sound which sounds terrible and I can't get any sound on my Xbox when I have the USB input set to USB. Is there a setting on Sonar or the Gamedac to fix this? There really isn't too much information in the included product information guide other than go to GG and download Sonar. I feel like I must be missing something because without Sonar the sound quality is basically stereo.

only way i have found to do it where i think it works (im still testing) is to set windows default to sonar gaming... then assign each game when opened to the sonar gaming device. and in the mixer tab have the game mixer set to mix creates game device... this way you can still use the mix create mute button for games and system sounds still go through mix create (and do not get virtual audio applied) then in the mix create software set you personal mix listening device to the SteelSeries headphones (if your using them). As i say still testing this all out so this may change

Sonar on my end only controls game sound, and sounds in windows. The other applications like Discord and chrome etc etc and mic. There i use Voicemeeter Potato, because i want to be able to adjust music while i game or mic, og adjust the voicechat ingame. So the game virtual and mic virtual in sonar is not in use 😄 because i cant control them while playing. If sonar gets midi usb support and more sources, then i might quit voicemeeter hehe

Have an Arctis 1 Wireless setup as follows:

WINDOWS SETTINGS

• default audio: Sonar Gaming
• default communications: Sonar Chat
• default mic: Sonar Mic

SONAR SETTINGS

• the Game, Chat and Mic channels are set to be my Arctis 1 Wireless headset

Here is the issue: Whenever I use the audio mix slider and pull it all the way to the left (where I should only here game audio) I here both the game audio and the chat audio.

And, whenever slide the mixer all the way to the right (where I should only here voice chat) the audio fades out completely for both chat and game audio.

Can anyone assist with this weird issue?

Have you tried running the beacon mic through Sonar's mixer input? Use it as just a pass through? This way you don't need to worry about the defaults switching, you use beacon as normal and everything else is defaulted to Sonar as it passes through

I did all of that. Set default playback and default comms from inside windows sound settings, disabled all other sound enhancement apps and even disabled any other input output device not in use. Setup the devices in sonar mixer as stated on the sonar support article and nothing.

Hi, I just downloaded the steel series GG app and it works great, but it always defaults to the steel series sonar as the playback device. I usually just choose the one I prefer which is my headphones but every time I restart my pc it always go to the steel sonar as the default. Is there a way for this to not happen? If you want to use Sonar, your default devices should be Sonar VADs so defaulting makes sure your config is right. Otherwise, if you only want to use GG, you can disable Sonar from the settings. In this case Sonar VADs will disappear and GG won't default them anymore

Why do apps like Whatsapp and Alexa PC app not work from time to time? I mean like I can see the visual indicator in game/chat bouncing up and down but no sounds from the headset.

yeah I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, replugging it, and restarting. Is the 'old' Arctic Pro's software based? If I can't get this one to work properly, then I might just get one of those instead

This may be a silly question.. new to SteelSeries from Astro. With using Sonar.. should you set the Engine software to a balanced EQ setting, along with Surround 7.1 off? I couldn't find anything online that would point to you needing to set Engine as balanced and plain as possible.. to allow Sonar to do all the work and if two EQ settings between the two tools would interfere. IF it makes any difference... on SS Pro Wireless.

It's really not great for PUBG, which is the only game I play

I have a brand new arctis nova pro wireless. the engine sees it. my pc sees it as arctis nova pro wireless. But the whole reason i bought this is for the perks it come with. When trying to setup sonar (i deleted and reinstalled many times and also check for pc updates) it gets stuck in "starting" everytime. So if when i close out and lauch it again. it goes to game output but shows nothing. So i am not able to use the chat mix which is why i was sold into buying this. I give it a week from now for the makers of steelseries company to reach out and deal with this issue before i return it. Its a deal breaker locking all the perks for the transmitter and headset into a beta unlike the Arctis pro wireless it comes with everything available out the box. im highly disappointed with your products.

Besides in game adjustments that’s the only master volume slider you get besides on keyboard volume control working and windows is able to also just directly adjust the volume too from the bottom right

problem is that, when i try to adjust volume with media keys, it only adjusts the 'Sonar Gaming' level. meaning that 'Sonar Chat' volume remains at the same audio until i manually change it.

So basically your microphone with sonar sounds like really, odd? because for me I learned that sonar changes the microphone's sound profile and you gotta manually adjust the eq of it in the microphone tab
