valorant
didnt realise that existed thanks!
Hmm. Thanks. So if I select DTS in the engine it doesnβt update 7.1 on my dac which is odd. What do you use? Virtual or dts?
on dac it's in audio -> surround (dts) if it's rly not enabling then you might need to reinstall app and drivers
I personally prefer the new one from Sonar
Hmm ok thanks.
I still think when I enable dts in the software it should show 7.1 on the dac.
But thatβs just me.
it doesn't show up on the screen unfortunately, only when you go into settings
if i have sonar active does it overide my engine profiles
no
you need to disable DTS in Engine for example if you want to use virtual surround in Sonar (2 virtual surround will cause bad sound quality and distortion)
you can use 2 EQ at same time tho (expect slight delay like 1-3ms)
thx should i have virtual surround on
it depends if you want it or not, some games are better with it on, some with it off
when it comes to music it's just preference (audiophile will say off)
thx
Thanks for the effort but its not the same with the virtual sound from sonar, considering returning the 7+.
U can't rly make it to be exactly same as other headset, but you can use EQ settings from some github repositories to get the experience as close to original/studio recording, if you can find it for both 7+ and your old 7s then by calculating differences and applying it in EQ it could also help you doing what you wanted
hi - a good place to start is to tweak the noise reduction and noise gate settings in the Sonar - Microphone tab:
any presets for Tarkov? I see the FPS footsteps one but are there any for Tarkov? If not any recommendations on what to set my settings to?
Just use the fps footsteps
Is anyone elses Sonar on the Steelseries GG app not working?
everything else works but Sonar is just perma loading
restart gg
hey i just wanted to try sonar out and i cant seem to figure out why i dont have any sounds when using sonar for output, like in gaming i put in arctis pro wireless gaming and i see the bar moving but on my headsets nothing comes out
no if i disable the sonar devices then sound comes back
but sound just disappears when i enable them
and set them to default
my friends are telling me my mic drops in quality when i load up black ops 2 (any game though), its only when i have sonar enabled, any help?
Its because your cpu usage is going up and then sonar gets lagy
can i use chatmix without sonar?
depends on the headset apparently
arctis 7+
then no
jeepers, okay its only with black ops 2
What do you have as your default input/output devices in Windows? They should be "SteelSeries Sonar - Gaming" and "... - Chat/Microphone"
so when i put them as default , i get no input or output from the sonar devices, when i turn the default back to the normal (game/chat/mic) and i dont disable the sonar the audio is still gone. it only comes back when disabling the sonar devices, this goes for both output and input devices
i might try reinstalling SS engine and see if that fixes it but i doubt it since i just installed it
Just got the Arctis 7+ coming from the regular Arctis 7.. Sonar.. Hmm... Kinda miss the settings in the regular engine but... I see some nice changes on Sonar too.. Looking forward to future updates π
You get both! You can still use Engine as you'd like. With Sonar we are taking advantage of software driven processing and are able to build in a lot deeper capabilities. So the things that you already can do in Sonar (and plenty more to come) definitely outperform what we have targeted in Engine (which is 'on device' processing and hence constrained by the capabilities of the device HW).
On the regular engine you can also toggle the virtual surround, mess with compression, ect (dunno if that's the right terminology).. I've messed with Sonar though and completely left the original engine to flat and.. I'm seeing Sonar has a lot more control than the original UI. The only thing I wish was, a hotkey to quickly turn on/off virtual surround. I also think that option on the regular UI was a bit better than Sonar's.. But so far, overall quality of sound is better with Sonar so it's a win for me π
Nice - thanks for the feedback. We definitely hear ya re the surround sound 'presence' in the UI. It's underwhelming atm for an incredibly powerful feature and audio experience.
Everything else is pretty ace quality, definitely an improvement from the regular UI on the Arctis 7 π
I would like to lower the clarity of my own microphone in Sonar but I don't know how to, anybody that can help? π note* I just got the arctis 7+ and I'm new to this stuff :)
hey, I'm using the arctic pro wireless and I wanted some good music EQ on sonar for the gaming section of the app, I just cant seem to figure out a good eq, any help appreciated π
7.1 on or off while surround sound on sonar is turned on, which is better? I don't notice any distortions although but I would like to hear your experiences.
if u enable dts in engine then you should have surround off in sonar (same the other way)
they are basically 2 different methods of sound processing
both for gaming (some games have their own processing) and music it's your preference
the one in sonar is better for gaming, but dts is better for immersion
7.1 is on and sonar surrond off
the virtual surroound right?
it depends on my preferences i see
yes
Does anybody know how to change the clarity of the microphone? I got an arctis 7+!
sonar just keeps loading ? any ideas ?
restart it
Done that about 5 times ππ
reinstal
is there a way to launch a preset when starting a game?
Not currently. It's a requested feature though so hopefully they'll add it soon
thx
can you post a list in the updates channel pin it and keep updating it? so we know which features not to spam you with that you already know of
I'm assuming eventually Sonar will replace the right click on system tray to be able to fast change Sonar configs..? If not, would be a good suggestion.. Maybe for now have separate ones listed as Engine Configs and Sonar Configs
Is there a way or a workaround anyone recommends to duplicate the audio from Sonar's main mixer and send it to a secondary output such as one for a capture card? Currently trying to implement Sonar into a 2 pc setup using a razer ripsaw capture card
Hi there! Is there a way to set a keybind to adjust the balance for chatmix?
Not yet
yeh not at this stage. Your feedback has been heard!
I didnt understand what is that chat mode, is there any explanation? It just makes my headphones volume to 0
Hi guys, I've somehow caused my Sonar to go all wrong..
in the settings for sonar (Mixer area) I accidentally added an option to the microphone bit and now I get horrendous reverb and can hear myself big time and my mates suggest my mic is picking up all sorts of noise.. any ideas at all?
by added an option I mean I've clicked the drop down and chosen "headset micrphone Arctis Pro wireless chat"
Game output and Chat output are for two slightly different use cases. Some headsets come with on headset or near headset hardware dial (or buttons or something hardwareish) so you can change the mix of the two you are hearing from a balance of the two to more game sounds or more chat sounds (a example of more chat sounds would be louder voice chat and thus softer game chat) so you don't have to mess with in game settings/discord settings in the middle of a game and still hear your friends/teammates. Some headsets also use this separate mix to not process some certain audio effects like virtual surround sound for the chat balance, or noise suppression for the game balance. If you don't have this on your headset, just put those two in Sonar to your main headset speaker output whatever it is.
Thanks for such long answer bro, appreciate that. Thank you^^
yeah no problem, hopefully I made it clear enough
Yy, thank you so much
hello
please help me i am playing pubg and use arctis 9 how can i do best setting in sonar eq
there is settings about valo, fortnite, cod vsvsvs but not pubg :(((((
I use COD setting for Tarkov and that seems to do the job
were did u find the cod settings
Am I only one, who hasnt got any setup changes, even when i turn off the main volume?
- Win Main Audio is Sonar
- Arctis Pro Game DAC is working fine.
Possibly the Game DAC the problem?
My Steel Series Arctis Pro Wireless' keep reconnecting while using Discord and Sonar. Any ideas for what might be the cause?
I also see this in EventViewer:

I think the problem may actually be the headphones, because they seem to be reconnecting constantly
hey Quinteras - sounds like it could be configuration settings issue with Sonar. Are you able to share a screenshot of your Sonar mixer tab?
@leaden moon it was an Restart problem π First 2-3 restarts didnt work. But since then i got awesome performance
Gotcha! Thanks for letting us know. If it happens again do ping us.
I have the 7+ coming from a regular 7. Is there anyway to use the Engine surround sound on the 7+? The sonar virtual surround sounds like it has a "Small Room" enhancement on top of it.
Anyone else have the problem that if sonar is on that it completely breaks discord voice attenuation?
hmm was wondering if sonar changes the preset based on the game im playing or do I have to manually do that?
You have to manually do it for now. Hopefully they add that feature in a later version
any music presets for sonar that I can use, have the arctis 7+?
Have you thought about just correcting the frequency response of your Arctis 7+?
Is there any GG dev on that I can discuss some of my Sonar bugs with?
is there a way so that my spotify doesnt go under the processing
rn it is and it sounds odd
also are the profiles supposed to auto change with your game
No, you have to do that manually
To fix Spotify you can just change its output source via Windows sound settings so it doesn't go through Sonar
Is it posible when i live stream to disable the chat trough OBS for my stream? so that nobody here the discord chat on my stream? I also hear some noice trough my 7+ headset?
yo... Got a Question: When I start my PC, it always needs a "handish" selection of my GameDAC Game Channel in Output for Gaming.
I guess, its because the Game Channel comes with the Start of the Steelseries Engine, because its artificial.
Is there any possibility to "fixiate" it -> even when the channel isnt online yet, when Sonar starts? Or is it on your Side to change the order of booting first Headset and artificial Soundchannel GameDAC Game, then sonar?
hey Quinteras - hmmm, Sonar 'should' remember the output device (assuming it is connected on startup). And odd that it is 'remembering' the chat but not the game. We'll see if we can repro any odd behavior on our side.
I have a Arctis Pro with GameDac and whenever I hibernate my computer and turn it back on the sound options get reset and in here
its empty every time my computer wakes up
and for some reason the speakers just disappear and i have to unplug and plug in the game dac for it to reappear
hibernation is not good for any programs to be honest, it messes up and tries to boot pc with same memory, but it's not like it is the same for the program now
it would be best if you check if this happens when you put PC to sleep or shut it down normally
@primal surge
Thats the difference
Hibernate is just sleeping.
Fresh Boot is what I do
Much appreciated
In spotify select the headset itself as the audio output
there aint no setting
there is a plugin you can download and it lets you sperate all your audio
any chance of VST support?
set the spotify sound setting to ur headset itself in windows settings
i see
ok just opt in for sonar but before i dive in i wanna know dtx or sonar which is better you opinions and why?
I can at least tell you that the sonar is better than windows sonic but since I'm on arctis 3 i can't test DTX so i think u should try it yourself and see what your preference are
thing is im not good with EQ especially EQ this deep also the video i used to use while tweaking EQs is lost
you need to do it manually for now but an automatic preset change might be introduced in future iterations
would be great, since Engine already has this function
as someone totally new to this, the ability to share custom configs would be amazing
i have a question about sonar. is it meant as a possible replacement for say voicemeeter/wavelink. meant to split audio for gaming streaming on platforms like youtube, and twitch?
Currently Sonar is meant to be a gaming audio software. So it aims to give you the best option to tune both game and chat in a separate way so that you don't have to compromise the game audio to keep a clear chat or vice-versa.
You can use Sonar devices (game and chat) as input to your streaming software to keep the two channel separated but that's not the software main goal. Nevertheless, we are a lot interested in hearing your experience as a streamer so feel free to DM me to let me know how you use Sonar for streaming and what are the challenges you are facing
Like Vinnie said it's not the main goal but it certainly can be used for that however as of right now it's limited due to the amount of channels we have but once we can add our own it will basically be the same as current solutions

how do i disable sonar
In GG settings. There's an option to disable it
found it, thanks
π
Why dosnt sonar work with my arctis pro wireless?
What do you mean? What happens?
Well I have sett sonar as the standard on everything on my pc but the only way I can get sound is without using sonar
Hi folks curious
anyone ever using UGREEN USB 3.0 Switch Selector 4 Port 2 Computers Peripheral Switcher Adapter
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Selector-Computers-Peripheral-Switcher/dp/B01N6GD9JO
I just bought mine today, but for some reason, it creates a bug where only either Sonar chat or Sonar gaming can be used. I've tried to plug in and plug it out several times, sometimes chat works but the gaming one does not work, and so vice versa.
Share 4 USB 3.0 devices between two systems. UGREEN USB 3.0 Switch 2-to-4 is an excellent choice to share 4 USB devices between two systems, it's ideal for sharing a printer or scanner in a small office environment, it's also great for use at home if you have multiple PCs or Macs. Universal USB 3...
Sonar does use 1 output and create virtual sounds that go through the same speaker a usb hub should have nothing to do with it
Hmm I can confirm that using the usb switcher for some reason, make the sound only works either Sonar Chat or Sonar Game
I plug it off several times from the switcher to confirm this, and yeah apparently it cause this bug
probably unused connections in the USB ports, in other words not all pins in the port are connected and these probably are the pins Ur headset uses, and if these are not connected it obviously won't work, this is probably because they can't just put 1 USB parallel to 4
hi does somebody have a good setup for there sonar mic??
Hi guys, i accidentally deleted the sonar mic in the soundsettings, how do i get them back?
hopefully this update fixes the bug that completely breaks sonar
which bug are you referring to?
need to reinstall
where the audio and mic outputs/inputs stop working and require a reboot of gg
since typing that I've actually experienced it, so doesn't seem like it was fully fixed
actually, to be fully honest, I'm not 100% sure that it was sonar that caused that issue so I'll keep an eye on it
may I DM you to gather more info?
sure, no prob
With the arctis 7x's, am I able to use the dial on the right headphone to turn discord down/up and my game down/up on PC?
Because right now the physical dial on my headphones does nothign and I need to use this in the steelseries engine
Hi - the chatmix dial on the 7X headset is for use on xbox only. So, you are correctly using the Sonar chatmix slider to control chatmix on PC!
i have the pro wireless (pc), am i best using the chat mix that's built in, or setting up the sonar chat mix
seems to be working, so im not gonna mess with it.
To use the chatmix from the UI in Sonar you need to:
Open GG-> Sonar (login required) -> In the Mixer tab, select your Arctis Game endpoint as output device for both Gaming and Chat. Now you will be able to control the ChatMix from Sonar UI. When ChatMix is controlled via Sonar, you will not be able to use the ChatMix feature from the hardware wheel on your device nor on your GameDAC or Transmitter.
To use the ChatMix via wheel on your device:
In the Mixer tab, select your Arctis Game endpoint as output device for Gaming and your Arctis Chat endpoint as output for Chat. Now you can control the ChatMix feature from the hardware wheel on your device or on your GameDAC or Transmitter but not in Sonar UI
Here also an FAQ on the topic https://support.steelseries.com/hc/en-us/articles/4411641264013-How-Do-I-Setup-ChatMix-
Does anyone know how to improve sounds positioning in PUBG on arctis 7+?
Trying different configs in sonar, also Trying to use DTSx and Dolby atmos. So it's still bad.
With non-Sonar accessories, there is the ability to auto-apply certain presets with the launch of games (for example, Siege). Is there a way to auto-launch presets with Sonar?
anyone know why when i try and use sonar i cant hear any audio from my deskto
like i have everthing set up
i can hear discord
but not anything from my desktop
like spotify and chrome
and it also makes my mic sound super bad
compared to just making the input the mic istelf
You should check your system setting for sound see if any of them aren't set to default device.
when do the sonar shortcuts come?
if you have any idea on that of course
the new sonar update works great btw, the mic echo is completely gone and the new auto noise gate is also very good. keep up the great work!
Sonar forever loading :/
Should i have this all turned off/default if im using sonar?
Yeah, if you're using Sonar for everything the DTS stuff should be off and your EQ should be set to flat
after the most recent patch it has been much easier to use for people like myself who don't know how sound stuff work, thank you!
No. Just simply change playback device in windows sounds tray to sonar.
instead of using virtual surround on sonar can I use dts, but still use everything else in sonar.
The one thing to highlight here is that both the Sonar audio effects AND whatever you have set on the device (via Engine) can then be applied
Yes
forever loading. Restarted pc and app
Updated to Windows 11, Sonar devices didn't seem to work (Arctis 7 Wireless); removed and reinstalled GG, and now there's no Sonar option at all. Also, attempts to synch settings don't work now. EDIT: sorted it out.
i applied for sonar, yet i dont see the option in the steelseries menu
is this an issue
or do i just have to wait
Go βHomeβ then search for an ad like thing with sonar then click it
thanks
it got me too when i was signing up for sonar lol
its in a very obvious spot but somehow my eyes just glazed right over it
Same!
i was like "oh yeah sonar i want to enable that, thats cool they have it right front & center... now i wonder where im enabling sonar at"

how do i setup sonar?
i set it up and it works great but when im in discord my game audio wont play the only thing i hear is discord
ok so I'm curious to how to get this to work, I have everything working but discord just doesn't show up as valid sound? I don't know how to say it but discord voice chats don't go through chat, game, or master volume but I can still hear them
Is there any way to make Sonar not automatically switch to default audio after reboot? I only use my headset to stream or when I game with others.. I use a home theater setup any other time
i just got the sonar bata for my arctis pro w just wondering of there are game profiles i can download and if so from where thanks guys happy gaming slight_smile
i just got the sonar beta
Could someone "translate" those eq settings to sonar eq
I set it like this but it doesn't sound the same
Hey lads, or ladies:)
Anyone here with the 7P+ that both plays on PC and PS5? I've just got my 7P+ today, after using the Arctis 7 for 3-4 years.
When i'm on the PS5, the audio is really good (still VERY different from the Arctis 7), and on PC, the 7P+ sound awful.... Literally.
Everything sounds like its muffled or seperated. Like im inside a glass jar. Can i fix this with the EQ settings in sonar?
I really want to get them working so that i can keep them.
Hey guys I have a question,
as soon as I change my sound settings to use the sonar as the default and communication I cant hear the game sounds
does anyone know?
Microphone sounds way worse via sonar than without it, anyone else experienced this?
use this switch
I don't want to deactivate it completely, I use sonar when I use my headset and actually switch the defaults back
enable it back when youre using your headphone
2 steps instead of 1 step... And then I'll forget that's an option and wonder why it's not working lol
this is the only solution as far as i know, so you will do this in either two steps or you wont be able to do this
Wonder why it defaults on reboot to begin with
for people who are using their computers mainly for gaming
Like me.... Except, not like me lol
for me its not a problem, because i have a jack headphone and if i pull my headphone out, my speakers are the same audio device in windows (realtek sound)
Yeah... Mine is Dolby Atmos via AV Receiver... I figured default would remain the same til you change it, and on old software without Sonar, that's how it works... It's like Sonar take priority for some reason
Can you use Sonar and Dolby atmos at the same time?
i mean u could, it would probably not be very great though
Hi guys i am having a problem with Sonar that I need some help with. I am currently using steelseries Sonar with my arctis 7+ and I have a seperate microphone that is connected to my PC with a 3.5mm jack. Now I also have a Nintendo switch that I use from time to time. Previously I had it set up in a way that made it so I could hear the sound from my switch and the sound from my PC, because I wanted to be able to talk to my friends on Discord. The way this is setup is like this: you put a 3.5mm cable on one side in your motherboard and the other in your monitor. Then in the windows recording settings you said it so you can hear that cable. However, the issue is that for some reason Steelseries Sonar does not allow this. I can either hear my Nintendo switch and PC sound, but not use my dedicated microphone, or I can use my microphone but not hear any sound from the switch.
Is there anyone that has a similar setup and can help me out or has anyone any advice as to how I could fix this? thanks in advance for the help
anyone know the best setting on sonar for watching movies lol
having an issue randomly after a few weeks of useing sonar. whenever sonar microphone is selected, audio is detected on the app, but nothing is produced in apps. also (discord doesnt pickup any active input ) warning popped up at the top of discord. swapping back to just arctis chat fixes the issue, but id like to know if its a glitch or a user error, thanks in advanced!
restarting app will work, it bugs itself when ur PC is using 100% of CPU
im literally stuck hearing my own mic audio
its pretty annoying
i cant disable it
My dobly atmos is for the theater setup with surround speakers and a receiver, sonar is only for when I use the headset for stream or game with friends.. Can't really use both at the same time as one is meant for speakers and the other for headphones/headset π
Does Sonar allow you to change configurations based on the game you are on like Engine does?
It doesn't automatically switches profiles when you launch a game like Engine but you can set different EQs for different games and switch between them
Alright, Thank you.
Does this include setting the Volume Limiter to Off as well?
Is there any place where I can find instructions for Sonar. Need something that tells me what the different settings exactly do. So I can understand how I might start tinkering with the settings to get what I want in my sound.
what do you not understand?
or EQ?
or smth else?
Mostly want to know how the "Q Factor" affects the sound and the different Filter Types.
Also, is there any way to find out what freq different sounds in games uses. Like what freq common steps uses, what freq the sound of rain uses, wind and so on..?
oh u ask about such basics
yeah ^^
I already know what smart volume, treble, bass and all those things are π
q factor is like ratio, higher it is the steeper transition period u have
for checking frequencies in specific game you would need 3rd software - frequency visualizer
yeah that was what I was thinking to. So it's like how steep the freq cut and start should be on the set freq right?
- you need to extract the sound from game u want
Got any tips for such softwear?
ye
but what about the different "Filter Types" then? how does that work?
Spectralissime from VB-Audio
I kinda use quite a lot of their software
and they never let me down
so I guess it would be good
haven't used it myself tho
but pics look nice
Awesome, Thanks! I will check it out!
shelving ones will boost low/high end of frequency spectrum (curved)
high pass will only allow higher frequencies than set (all lower will be cut)
low pass opposite to above
notch filter is mostly for removing unwanted frequencies (for example interferences/interfering frequencies)
peaking will boost/cut certain frequencies (bell shaped)
shelving :
low pass:
notch:
peaking:
@keen swallow
do you get my bad explanations?
kinda tried to explain in my own words, but I'm lacking in certain aspects when it comes to definitions itself
I know what things do tho
I think I did! It for sure made me understand it alot more!
Thanks alot for taking time to explain this to me! helped alot, feel alot more confident to tinker around now π
So if i want to cut the sound of wind and rain but also make sound of steps higher, Peaking should be the best option for this right?
if the frequency is different then u can do both notch or low/high pass for wind/rain to be not hearable and peaking to make steps louder
it depends on game rly
u would like to start with high pass first
u can checkout presets and modify them too:
if u put ur mouse cursor on specific point it will show u how it affects EQ (coloured line) and if u press on it u can also see exact settings
@keen swallow
ooooh, i feel so stupid now, I dident realise that you could choose different filtering types for each 10 chanels!!
haha now it all makes alot more sense! xD now I get how i can set it up as i want π
@open wigeon Thanks alot. I really appreciate your help!
Sonar won't work if the application is closed at the desktop. It needs to be minimzed
Anyone know why sonar doesn't automatically work when I boot pc and go from gaming to desktop. I put sonar as the default and sometimes it works on browser and games and other times I have to put it on arctis 7+ to get any volume. Arctis 7+ audio works all the time but sonar is sketchy
Did you ever find a fix for this?
guys can you send mic settings on sonar i can't found which settings to open and its level?
@green gale @supple wraith I just struggled with the same thing for a while. I finally got it working by reactivating the Virtual Surround switch in Sonar.
π€π€
I will give it a try
@delicate burrow you use the usb to usb c cable or not?
No adapter. USB straight from GameDAC to computer.
So I really have to create a steel series account and login to configure my headset and to use a feature that was already available on my old Artics 7 ?! π€¬
Anyone have any good configs for the game Hunt:Showdown? This game has a lot of ambient noise like crickets and such that interfere with hearing simple footsteps as knowing where other players are is crucial.
ya i agree with that would help . but does sound good thou
hate this sonar lmao
u dont have to use it
@here in GG14 we introduced in Sonar a feature that allows you to switch the default EQ labelling.
Now frequency ranges are labelled on the EQ based on relevant sounds (e.g., footsteps, bombs, heal sound...).
As each game has its own relevant sounds, we got label presets for some of the most played games.
I am curious to know what do you guys think about it. Please feel free to reply to this message or get in touch with me to give your feedback
is there a game preset for PUBG?
that a great added touch been trying to narrow down better eq setting for footsteps this help alot
Not yet but we'll have one
Looking forward to testing Sonar with that then. Any timescales?
Can maybe someone help me to know what all these like dots and what it does when i change one of them to go up or down. IDK anything about sound and stuff. but the arctis 7+ sounds is some game way different then the 7. so i'm trying to figure out what i can do to make games sound a bit more clear to me.
Is there a way to force update
as when i press the update button nothing is happening
after a game of league, when the client is loading to the post-game lobby, I can't hear nor talk on discord until the client completely loads. wasn't an issue before I got started using steelseries headphones. anyone heard of something like this?
No time scale from now but it's definitely a preset we want to have \
same issue with Valorant
Each dot represents a band of the equalizer. Differently from a standard graphic EQ, in Sonar you can select the exact frequency (moving the dot left right). Once you selected the frequency you can boost/de-boost the sound in that frequency (moving the dot up/down). Furthermore, by tuning the Q factor you decide how precise you wanna go on that frequency. So with a larger Q you can narrow down the range around that frequency and vice versa
I am using Voicemeeter to route my sound, do anybody know HOW and what I should put into the Sonar-settings? TIA DensuN
how to make people louder when you are talking to them in discord as a chat option?
Game PUBG; any ideas how to fix when sonar is on i cant hear anything when in game, havent tried other games.
Has anyone had any issues with Win11 and Sonar? Doesn't work after updating from Win10.
I really enjoyed it, hope I'm just missing something obvious. If I set my windows defaults to Sonar, nothing works
Hi
Is there a way to disable the auto default for Sonar in Windows? I still use Sonar Chat Mix, but through voicemeeter. So I need Sonar to be enabled, but I don't want to change it to voicemeeter every time I restart my PC. They both work fine, it's just an extra step every time I launch GG. Thanks
So, just got Sonar downloaded and was wondering if I should turn off conflicting settings in the original headset engine before messing with the same settings in Sonar (Ex. Having DTS Headphone:X V2 on in the Engine and Virtual Surround on in Sonar) Or are they considered two separate entities from each other settings wise?
you should set everything to default in engine when using sonar
Do you mind if I DM you to help you?
yes any previous EQ or audio FX (DTS/Surround included) should be turned off
Is there a way to change devices for "Gaming" via key shortcut? I want to switch between my headset and my speaker and use the same EQ Preset for both...
there are nno shortcuts yet
I use Sonar in conjunction with VoiceMeeter Banana, a free digital mixer. I setup a macro on my keyboard where it switches from both Sonar Gaming and Chat mix, and my speakers. There are macros and EQ you can set up there as well. But I can warn you there's quiet of a learning curve to that program.
I cant get the csgo flash sound to be lowered. I followed this reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/siqcsy/how_to_lower_flashbang_and_increase_footsteps/ and set the frequency to 2994 Hz exactly like the video, but it just doesn't work. The equalizer is definitely working, my game sounds different. However I feel like the flash frequency might be off/different for me.
Could you record the sound of the bomb and share it with me?
Also which version of CSGO are you running?
here's a clip with both the flash sound and bomb explosion at the end
should be the latest version?
and this is my configuration in sonar
2994 Hz to be exact for Frequency
The EQ seems right, gonna investigate more on the right frequency
sounds good, thank you!
Also is there a way to have the preset auto select when the game is opened? And then go back to default when closed?
Not yet, but we are considering to add it in the product
Yo is there a way for me to boost the general audio using sonar? I just selected the Valorant preset in there and its just so low volume idk how people use it
like it doesn't seem to be a way but idk?
is there a setting to not hear myself on sonar?
yes
Hey - there is. Under the Gaming tab there is a 'gain' slider to increase the overall volume
So mic sidetone is controlled with Engine (if you own a steelseries headset). You can set your mic sidetone to off in there, if you dont like to get that feedback when you are talking
thank you!
hello
I can increase the decibels despite the meter already being at the top?
so it can go into positive decibels from 0.00?
yep the gain can boost volume even if the slider on the mixer tab is maxed.
oh sweet thanks man big from you ily
say it back
Why noone can hear me i discord with sonar mic
nah, doesnt work, i have to switch it to artics headset
Turned Sonar on now I have 0 audio across the board?
input and output are selected correctly, its the right one in the volume mixer
idk what it is
nvm a pc restart fixed it
bing chilling
can someone help me set up sonar it seems better than voicemeeter i just cant get it to work
We did a spectrum analysis on the moments clip you shared and we confirm the frequency is 2994Hz
What setting do i change to lower the loudest sounds but keep the quiter ones.
Sonar is made for higher pc's and voicemeeter is for like laptops
smart volume (in gaming tab) or volume stabilizer (in Chat) do exactly this
they keep the volume in certain range. If a sound is too low it will be automatically boosted. Similarly if a sound is too high it will be de-boosted to you will always have all the sound in the range you wish
why can't I hear other people's sound with this setting?
If you missed the first setup you need to
- set sonar as your default audio device. This will be done automatically if you click on the yellow banner in the Mixer tab. If you don't see any yellow banner, then you should be ok
- in the mixer tab you need to select the audio device you wanna use for Gaming, Chat and Mic (they can be the same device if you use your HS for everything)
You are good to go
Ye i have a PC
Thank you
thats odd, maybe im just not good at perceiving the difference π
i'll put the gain to 1, and then to -12 and the flash will sound exactly the same
but the game itself does sound different, so i know the equalizer is working
hey everyone i just bought arctis 7 plus wireless but there is no sound when i open sonar i already set sonar as default audio device
I adjusted Sonar's magnificent EQ, test sample sounded great, loaded a full match and dropped into some heavy combat to test that 7.1 with Sonar in the heat of it. I shit you not, I sounded like I was in a tin can. An old, rusted out tin can.
I tactically withdrew and restarted my Steelseries GG, and the client. Seemed to fix it for now, but I have also been noticing subtle changes in the intensity of voices, including my own. They seem to fluctuate up and down in volume between and during pubs and streams.
Maybe put that in #sonar-feature-requests ?
you also need to select the Arctis 7+ as target device for both gaming and chat in Sonar Mixer
Is Sonar stereo if I don't configure it more than required, or what is it?
It sounds like it's some surround system but I really can't figure it out
It's stereo by default unless you turn on the "virtual surround" option
Ah okay, thanks also is it possible to control sonar with hotkeys in any way?
for example, just changing EQ on the fly so on
Not currently, no
It's a feature that's been suggested a few times in #sonar-feature-requests though so maybe it'll be added in a future update
Okay thanks
The Gaming VAD is a 7.1 device so in the case you are using a 7.1 system you can enjoy the real surround. as @serene orbit said, If you are using an Headset you'll need to turn ON the Virtual Surround
Okay thanks good to know

Currently, when using Sonar only it appears that if I enter a Discord call all of my audio (chat + game) cuts out for everything (discord, and windows sounds etc)
Does anyone have any advice? I have the setting for when in a call to do nothing instead of reducing volume, so it's not that...
Also, it works FINE when I disable the sonar channels.
Today during a game, I was on discord and all of a sudden my mic cuts out and sonar isnt picking up any sound for my mic and my discord isnt picking any sound either. The I have tried switching back to the normal mic and it is still not picking any sound up, I updated everything and drives and nothing is working.
Hi there. I just install Sonar and SS sonar gaming doesn't work for me. SS Sonar Chat works. What I do wrong? Arctic pro+gamedac
Make sure you not using HI res on your gamedac
input pc
hi everyone. for me, sonar causes my mic to be extremely loud and distorted in CS:GO. the only solution i've found so far is to disable the steelseries sonar microphone sound device in windows settings. does anyone else also experience a glitched mic in csgo, while using sonar?
something is totally messed up with my whole sound system, please help
if you still have the problem when switching back to HS then the issue shouldn't be related to Sonar
Check your settings in Sonar Mixer tab are both Game and Chat device correctly selected? If this doesn't work please get in touch with me in DM
Some apps apply a mic boost so try to simply lower the mic volume in the Mixer. Like this you will still be able to enjoy voice presets and noise canceling
I tested for a week sonar vs dts sound unbound and conclusion is that dts is better
i find out sonar makes some discord voices crackle btw
wdym?
Thank you very much, lowering the volume solved the issue
hi i have a the game dac do i just put the eq on the dac flat or do i just change it on the sonar eq?
You should set the dac eq flat if you're using Sonar
So I was doing a couple things and now sonar game sounds dont work and just sonar chat works and makes sounds
In Windows: make sure Sonar Gaming is Windows default audio device and Sonar Chat is Windows default communication device, then in Sonar Mixer make sure you selected the proper target devices for Gaming and Chat
anyone who plays COD:Warzone, care to share their Sonar settings? I just can't seem to get my Arctis 7+ to the same level of detail I had with Arctis 5s
the game is either to much bass and foot steps in audible or sounds too 'tinny' and footsteps are booming
I'm in the same boat. I've actually resorted to using the Fortnite preset. That seems to be the best for me. I'm still trying other things, but that's what I've landed on for right now.
@junior granite @dawn galleon tuning the parametric EQ can be tricky but powerful as well. I suggest you to set the labelling to COD Warzone so you know where footsteps and other relevant sounds are then boost/de-boost in that range
It is up to Your preference
2nd one, it is for chat
should i chose the one for chat ?
When using Sonar with a Arctis Pro Wireless should I set the the equalizer on the headset to Balanced? And should I still be using 7.1 surround and a surround profile?
I tried it and had both friends in discord and people in csgo say that my mic was earraping
One friend in discord also told me that I could try speaking closer to the mic not sure though as I haven't heard it myself
reducing the mic volume in the sonar settings fixed it for me
i was only having this problem in csgo
Okay seems to be sounding better now but I still have static in the background which isn't picked up by the mic
when you use Sonar, your EQ in Engine should be flat (like in your pic) and DTS should be OFF (unlike your pic) - this is because you don't want to apply two EQ or two Virtual Surround to your sound
you can use the same headset for Game and Chat then Sonar will keep separate and independent the effects you use on Game from the ones you use for Chat
Hey! anyone have recommendations for EFT?
hi can sonar audio profile launch with targeted applications?
not as of currently, you have to manually switch from what i understand
wish they can add like the current engine profile
sonar is exclusive to steelseries headsets right
also i think it would be a cool feature if we could change sonar profiles through the system tray icon
Nope. Sonar supports any audio devices
hello peeps, anyone know if sonar affects battery timeof said device if using a bluetooth headset?
sorry if stupid question :/
anyone willing to share their sound settings on sonar?
Anyone know if you can play music through your microphone with sonar?
anyone else get the csgo flash sound to be lowered? it still doesnt work for me and idk why
why do my settings in sonar keep getting reset time to time
Hello all, testing out sonar ! looking really interesting so far
hey, wanted to ask if i can do sth about my keyboard volume roll controlling only the "gaming" audio
There is nothing you can do, as the keyboard controls the default Windows device which is gaming π¦
does this happen when GG gets updated?
well thats a bruh one then, thanks for the quick reply tho c:
Any body else experiencing sound lags and interruptions while playing music on spotify on (Sonar - Chat) ? if i switch to (Sonar - Game) i'm not having issues but the music sounds very bad tho
I've experienced that too, I haven't really found a fix, I think its mainly CPU usage as when I try to compile something or play a game it goes very croaky and cuts in and out. Also experienced that my microphone loves to change audio levels when loading games, could only be me though I don't know
i'm finding these issues while i'm working on Excel files (moving data from one cell to another) on CPU load 1% so i have a feeling that's not due to CPU overload..
Yeah than that clears my idea of CPU overload, does it only come when your moving data from cell to cell or just generic use?
sometimes is has to do with generic use too, but most of the time while i'm moving cells around the spreadsheet
To be fair with you I've had to stop using Spotify as it has gotten bad on sonar - chat
Thats so strange
ok i've just tested it on youtube music videos, with chrome, l have the same issues there
Yeah, ive had the exact same, I don't understand it
On Sonar are you using any like modification / EQ's?
Yes, i'm on broadcast cuz that's what i prefere atm
Yeah see I was using the exact one, I swapped between Clarity and Broadcast and both had the issue. From what I have experienced I feel like broadcast is a little less buggy than Clarity but they both shouldn't be as buggy.
Has this only just started for you or is it an ongoing thing?
that's sad because Game sounds very bad compared to Chat
well today was the first time trying to use sonar for me, i have bough the arctis 9 like 2 weeks ago
Oh 100%, I do find the music feature on Game sounds make it sound wasted
Yeah see, mine only been happening for a couple of days, I have the Arctis 3's and they are the same
Your headphones are wireless right?
yes wireless
Yeah, that could be an issue with it because of connectivity and reception
Correct me if im wrong but can you use the Arctis 9s wired?
Just wanna see if it could be wireless causing issues or if its literally just sonar, as we are both having issues. Im leaning towards Sonar being the result to the audio glitching but never know lol
do you mean by using a jack cable? i'm not sure if i can, if i connect the headset to my pc with USB, nothing changes, i guess it's just a battery charging feature
i have a jack on my headset and i believe that's an output-only port because if i connect a jack headset on my arctis 9, we both hear the same thing
Ahh gotcha,
Yeah, its just strange, do you get the issue where your mic will just go to 100/100?
So the microphone boost to 30DB and microphone levels to 100?
Something like this
Because mines only just started to do it and I haven't changed any settings to cause it.
I could be loading Portal 2 or Rainbow 6 and it would just go horrific
Anyone know good Sonar setting for DBD ?
Check #config-discussion there might be one there for you that the community made π
Anyone know how I can make that when I turn the volume up both channels go up instead of only "game"?
Sometimes I want game and chat to go up
Not only game
yo anyone got some good sound profiles for a arctis 7 headset mic?
Yeah, theres a repository on github and it has good EQ's for arctis 7s and all headsets really, ill shoot you the link
...
Ill dm you the link, but press control f and type in your headphones, click it scroll down and set them on the EQ
@delicate burrow @glad raven may I or other members of the team DM you to ask you more about the issue you are encountering?
Sounds good to me Vinnie π
the upgrade erases the csgo sound settings?
hey - yeh the 'master volume' slider in Sonar changes both the Game and Chat volumes, and also keeps them in the right ratio to each other as you adjust the master volume
hello Iwould like to remove sonar how do I do
ty
Don't close your steelseries GG, sonar wont work π
In GG settings you can find an option to disable Sonar, do you mind if I DM you to discuss about your experience with Sonar and why you decided to disable it?
just got arctis 7+, got the audio working but when messing around trying to get sonar to recognise the sonar chat / gaming inputs the audio has gone and fixes?
also says reconnect even tho both the usb-c and dongle are attached
ngl think the firmware update just killed them, they wont turn on after it
sa
do you know how to put the sound like mongraal on sonar please ?
Anyone got a better "Valorant" equalizer setting? The preset makes my whole valorant sound screwed
use fps steps and surround volume
good sht
fps steps?
this
OOOOO
and try with the virtual surround
u can hear the enemies across the map
what about the bass boost/treble boost?
turned off?
i usually use them on music preset
but you can try
Same for me
for bass boosts like chapter 2 season 4 of Mongraal
I don't understand, am I supposed to toggle virtual surround on or off if I have the Arctis 7 Pro Wireless? I've already got surround sound on I think so is this for the headsets that doesn't already have built in 7.1 since its stereo?
What are the best settings for Arctis Pro headset
using the Arctis 7Ps on PS5 to play Fortnite mainly.
can I use the Fortnite Sonar settings on the Windows executable aswell as the previously used equalizer setting? bit confused. is Sonar just for PC gaming? thanks guys
can someone hook a brother up with an ASMR Sonar effect plis π
there is no way to save the effect onto the headset like the normal equalizer has done previously for PS5 use?
I notice there is a new additional audio output created for my 7Ps now tagged Gaming. just switch to that in my sound panel task menu and I get to keep the Sonar profile without having to launch the exe every time i want to use the effect ??
@light sphinx hey please don't DM me out of nowhere without ever speaking to me prior, if you have a question you can ping me here. And no, I don't have a valorant preset, and I have no idea what made you think that I do lmao
haha mbmb sry
It's just super sus, especially after all the hacker debacles on discord this past year
ooo ye true
Im not the best with tech and everything but trying out a new headset/mic and so far people tell me I sound like Im talking over the radio or like tyler1 lol
Adjusting the settings on Sonar doesn't seem to have an effect when it comes to discord... and when recording it on the app it sounds perfectly fine.. I dunno what Im missing
Have the Arctis 1 wired
same, i had to reduce mic vol to 25%, from previous 90%
I just hope the devs provide an update soon so sonar can work again (for me, anyway) π
I've been trying out sonar, the UI is really nice and adjustable and the ability to play clips over and over and tune from there is great... my question so far is if I do not have dual channels as a feature of my headset (arctis 1) is there any reason to setup or enable the 'chat' input? Can the chat mix adjustment do anything if I don't have two outputs showing up from my headset?
Does anyone have a good configuration for the microphone of my artics 7?, my friends say that the microphone sounds like a supermarket xd
I figured out how to make it to where its using the program (I believe) through discord. I will have to refine it because I sound 200x louder than what I did with my default mic capping me at 3% for some reason also feedback from people in vchat say that the quality isn't too great but I might just need to adjust it to fit environment and voice
In voice and video settings of discord you can change your input device and it should be called Steelseries, just in case anyone else was lost on it
We suggest to turn off DTS virtual surround OFF in Engine and turn ON Sonar Virtual Surround. In any case having both will result in a inconsistent spatialization as you'll have the same effect applied twice
Yes Sonar is only for PC gaming, for Console settings you need to use Engine
- make sure Sonar is your Windows default device (if you see a yellow banner in the mixer page click on it and Sonar will do it for you)
- Select your Arctis one as a target device for Game, Chat and Mic in the mixer page
- in the Mic tab record a sample (top right) and then start applying Mic preset to check which one works best for you,
- you can further adjust by using a custom EQ and other FX
It's fine using the same channel for both Game and Chat. Sonar splits the two for you. You don't actually need dual endpoint at all
in the Mic tab record a sample (top right) and then start applying Mic preset to check which one works best for you. You can further adjust by using a custom EQ and other FX
Small question, i am now trying to use discord voice chat with my Arctis 9 while playing Apex legends but when the game starts, i can't hear discord anymore ... Discord is on voice "Chat" channel while apex is on "Game" channel. I can hear discord voice again only if i switch the output device to Game channel in discord
how could i fix this issue?
PS i have already set the devices on default by clicking the yellow ribon on Sonar
hΓΆre mich im headset selbst sowie jedes hintergrund gerΓ€usch auf meinen ohren
English only
sorry
i have the arctis 7P+ hear every little background noise and my voice in the ear
Turn off mic sidetone in engine
Where is the sidetone
The 7p+ apparently has a dial on the headset
Yes Perfekt Thank you
Did you settings for Warzone foodsteps . i have engine and Sonar .
if engine and sona set which is applied to the headset
Is there a way to record the microphone on a seperate voiceline in the same file for when you gonna edit it later?
you can only record one file, each following recording will overwrite the previous one
Is there a way to disable sonar for the mic and or disable it automatically setting it as the default mic
Having an issue completing step 2. I do not see the option to pick my Arctis device. Windows sees it and discord sees it; just not GG. Have you seen this?
In sonor, my 100% mic sound normal. but in any other places, including in csgo or discord or gg moments capture with talking sound(all setting to steelseries sonar and mic), my voice is just WAY louder and crappier. I had to to adjust my input level to 25% on mixer page and my friends would say thats a little bit better. But in that way, cant really hear myself talking at all on microphone setting page using mic test
My discord audio seems very low quality with my current settings for headset. I want to play FPS's as well as be in discord talking to people
should I also change some settings in the sonar settings?
Hey guys, what is the use of this one ? Its on the playback tab
go to setings-genaral-under the sonar tab slide slider to off
Every PC restart I must go to Sound Settings of Windows and must Sonar do to Stanard communication but it dont save this.
After Restart if i open Discord or Teamspeak or Xbox App can I activated Sonar but I can hear nothing.
i like sonar but when i tried to use it for discord, it wouldnt pick up the mic even though i set it as default and even changed the audio settings to recognize arctis pro wireless sonar microphone. it also made my cpu usage go very high at times. i have 128 gb ram and 5800x so it doesnt usually go that high even when gaming and on discord. would like to use it but just doesnt work that well at the moment for me
Did you put the mic in discord on sonar virtual mic?
do we need to adjust the regualar EQ settings if we are using Sonar?
You should put the Engine EQ to flat for the best audio experience so that Sonar isn't trying to apply its virtual EQ over whatever EQ is saved to the headset
thank you!
absolutely love what Sonar has become! The Destiny setting is really nice. Just wanted to give that feed back.
Is there a way to have the gaming presets auto-change depending on the application being used (similar to how engine can swap profiles depending on apps)?
Not currently, no
I havee the same Problem!
Unfortunately it seems some games/software boost the mic (this causes the effect you are experiencing) - we are working to improve the experience.
@raw briar you need to flatten the EQ(and turn off the Virtual Surround) in Engine before to use Sonar. Otherwise you'll have twice the EQ (and twice the Virtual Surround) applied.
Hello @delicate burrow may I DM you to talk about your experience with Sonar?
Not yet, we are considering to add this feature though
Big fan of the auto switching, would love to see if be added. Otherwise Sonar is great.
Hi Everybody,
When will be sonar available for Mac. If will be I would focuse on noice cancelation for microphone
Yes I did
Glad to know Iβm not the only one
hey guys the microphone setting son sonar makes my mic constantly start cutting out and it doesnt make sense can someone please help.
it could be the noise gate
@silent sky i have mine set something like this
Is there a way to allow GG to switch sonar configs based on which game it detects me playing
It would be lovely to have a media profile for when no game is active, and when I switch from valorant to apex it will auto switch between the profiles they have made
its saved on pc
Thanks:)
np
add this to Bugs-and-requests!
ill try that out thanks mate
Anyone know why it doesnt pick up mic inputs however audio works fine?
steelseries didnt fix the stuck on loading
it just started happening to me
never happened before
I noticed the same thing, and when I did some digging this is what I found. Originally it was set to 20% on microphone level. I turned it up to 75%, which seems to fit me well.
If I use Sonar, I don't need to adjust EQ settings in Engine correct?
Right, you can click the Gaming/Chat/Microphone tabs if you'd like to change any EQ
....While using Sonar.
Thats what I thought, I'm trying to use it for Warzone, I've used there default settings for it, seems to bassy not sure how to fix that
Pull the 20-50-100hz down a little, and try it out. Generally the lower number is your "Bassy" soundwaves.
Under the gaming tab.
I've give it a try, thanks for the help
Does anyone play Escape from Tarkov? IF so, what settings do you use
So I've been messing with the Sonar, I really like the idea of it, I mainly play WARZONE. When I use the Sonar Warzone preset I feel like the foot steps are there, but its just to much what I feel is bassy, Its not crisp and clear like what I'm looking for. Attached is what I'm used withy Sonar and what I use with the engine, I feel like my engine EQ settings sound way better. Wish I could get there with Sonar, I tried adjust settings, but can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
i'm new to sonar and i'm wondering what is the best noise gate level i should have for a balance mic
do you use sonar for other games like lost ark ? I tried and footsteps are the only thing I can hear now , anyone have nice settings for it?
Does Sonar work on 96kHz-24bit with Arctis Pro's High-Res Audio mode ?
Hello guys, i just bought the Arctis pro+gamedac, And since i play a lot of Rainbow six siege i was wondering is someone as a good setup (even with the sonar option) to hear footsteps clearly and to make explosions and shoots quiter. Thank you in advance
cant dm u
lmk if u want my config competitive EFT player so footsteps and audio queues be big to me i spent a good few hours getting it perfect for shooters (imo at least)
I have the same setup and would love some good settings, the Warzone one for Sonar doesn't sound good to me.
highly suggest letting them work on sonar for a while before using it unless you are using it for testing to help them. if you are looking for competitive configs for the basic engine equalizer lmk i have tested many different configs and i believe what i have is the best for now.
(personal opinion of course)
Does Sonar only work 16 bit 48kHZ?
I have the same problem, I have the Arctis Pro + Gamdac, its just not clear, I don't know if its to much bass or if I'm in a padded room, when there is an explosion its takes over everything. I thought maybe it was cause I was Hi Res of the Arctis Pro so I pulled out my Arctis 7 and they sounded the same, I tried all the configurations and still couldn't get rid of it. When I just use the gamdac and put in my EQ settings the clarity is 100 times better.
has any one found a good one for vanguard yet for footsteps
Maybe this will help
just installed it
Sonar isnt showing up in my engine even after updating it
i had to click this link and it popped up
youre welcome
with sonar it renders the game dac useless right?
What does this Chat tab capture audio?
Anyone willing to DM me their best vanguard and warzone settings? Currently using Arctis Pro Wireless
I've just got my preset on FPS Footsteps, Surround Sound set to performance (GG 16.0 added this), smart volume on max, everything else turned off.
Then in Engine I have everything turned off and the eq set to balanced
Any good sonar settings for apex legends? I have Arctis Pro Wireless too. I tried many settings I feel like there's an echo or something in jar with the sound. Any recommendation
Sonar honestly kinda nice ngl, my apex audio is crisp now :D
There's been a weird echo thing for the past few days, it randomly started being an issue for me as well and that was before I actually updated my launcher. Idk what's causing it but it's not just you
Yeah that's weird , I hope they fix it asap. And could You share your settings please and thank you? I'm hearing very loud dialogue sound over footsteps and shit.
I had to fuck around with some stuff
I also at one point changed some in game settings file stuff for the surround sound to work correctly
But my settings are p simple
Default apex config in gaming tab in sonar with surround enabled and turned almost all the way to performance
And if you're having issues with your audio being weirdly balanced then you could try to enable smart audio, works quite nicely for balancing things out
Thank you . I will try messing with this options.
Sounds good, best of luck
Mixer is broke
ChatMix is stuck and doesn't respond to the headset dial
I got this thing a few days ago, no way the hardware is broken, it worked earlier today and I don't know why it no longer works
the sonar engine is pretty isy to use
uninstalled an reinstalled, seems to be working again, I just think it's frustrating that we're forced to use this app which, in my experience so far, has been very tempermental
in the sonar engine, you need to know what you do/change
you can chouse, to NOT use the app
not if I want to use the two audio channels
but your experience will be limitet
You can use both audio channels separately without using the new Sonar feature
Although so far the Sonar feature has been great in my experience but it is still experimental so bugs are to be expected
Also without using it the customizability is quite limited on comparison, while both audio channels are functional there is far more limitation without Sonar
thats true, btu they give you like more mobiliti and you chan prefer e.g only Music or optimazing for games, ...
I didn't see a way to use the chat/game channels without using sonar and there isn't information on how to do so in the booklet
Mmm what headset do you have?
arctis 7+
the USB C dongle
Cause I got the arctis 5 and they're fine
Yeah idk why you don't have an option
Should be stuff on the Engine page for it, it's also changeable in windows
You can change it for each app specifically there too
the only option in windows settings without sonar is just arctis7+ headphones
Weird
no two channels like it is with the arctis 7
I don't have the same headset so ig idk
that's what I'm saying about depending on the app though
Alright welp, I suppose I was wrong in your case so my apologies
I don't like how the functionality of a key feature depends on an app in alpha
Maybe there's something that is incorrectly configured in the windows advanced audio settings?
nope
Or maybe some driver didn't install right?
Ight so app and headset compatibility is just dogshit, love it
Oh well, best of luck to you
Hopefully at some point the app won't be a necessity and/or they'll make it more stable
Oh also
For the chat mix stuff
I think my issues are worked out now but I'm still frustrated by the interdependence. There is clearly a way for it to function without the app since it worked without it on the previous model, so I don't understand why you wouldn't build that backup into the 7+
You gotta set the audio channel to be the same
yeah, got that worked out
Both of them gotta have the same playback device or it just can't be changed
Oh ight mb
I just had to uninstall it and do it over again
Bleh
I saw the tutorials and had everything set up right, the app is just temperamental
if you use it on mic, it depends on your ambience noise. The noise gate will totally cancel any sound under the level you set. So if this level is too high you risk to cancel also part of you voice. Check the peak meter in the mixer when you are not talking to see what's the level of your noise. Then use that value in the noise gate
Did you try the preset we got in Sonar? Also you can change labels of the EQ to match your games and know where certain sounds are on the EQ and make your own configuration
Did you set your Engine EQ to flat? Otherwise the two EQs will stack leading to weird sound
With Sonar you can have different EQ for Game and Chat (your friends voice for instance) so you can have the best settings with no compromise.
Ah I just realized it's like a audio channel? This is what you mean right?
yes! An example: you're playing Warzone while on Discord with your friends. You wanna have an EQ to hear better footsteps. But this EQ will spoil your friends voice in Discord... With Sonar this problem is solved: You can tune the game in your gaming tab and the Chat in your Chat tab and you are sure that one will not affect the other
Iβve just setup sonar on my steelseries 9x using Xbox adapter on pc. The game channel works fine but when I try to use the sonar chat and mic they donβt work
I see! That's amazing, thank you for the explanation
Hi! I just received the early access to the Sonar feature. I was wondering if the configuration that I have in the SS engine has any effect of the Sonar feature. Could somebody find this out?
I did not. I will give this a try. Set them all to zero correct? Thanks for the help
100% my problem, Didn't realize they stacked. Set to flat and it is a ton better. Thank you.
does anyone have an allrounder eq preset for like playing league and ark while listening to music?
you are supposed to set EQ to flat and switch off DTS in Engine - otherwise the both the EQs will be applied leading to weird sound
oh, fair enough. thank you vinnie, you a genie
So I noticed my gamedac is set to hi res 24 94kHz but Sonar window setting is only set to 16bit 48kHz and not changeable. Is that correct? Also I can set my chat to default communication device, but it will let me gaming to either. Any ideas?
how do i activte the the filter setting on gaming cuz my presets start with 5 bands and they are not shown at the bottom
Right above that. They have configurations
for me its just the presets but i've seen on other screens that it show the different bands at the bottom
I get what you are talking about now, they are just the color dots on the graph now. You can click on them and change the numbers
so it doesn't really matter which dot i use?
cuz i can't tell which band is which
I don't believe so, cause you can change the settings to what ever you want.
alright ty so much ^^
Why I can't select A spatial sound ? the other named series inputs and outputs can be selected, except Sonar I/O
sonar work on ps5 ?
no
Sony has their own audio system called "Tempest" I think
You can still connect the SteelSeries headphones to the controller or with the USB but DTS and Sonar won't work
is the Destiny 2 mix that Bungie made specifically for the Arctis headsets or will it sound good for any headset?
Sonar only works on PC
Any headset
How do I stop using/uninstall Sonar
I think this is the wrong chat for that
Settings > general
np mate
Hello @delicate snow may I DM you? I am curious to learn more about your experience with Sonar
sure
Hey all first time using the Arctis 7+ just switched from my A40s. Do any of yβall know why they donβt sound as deep as the A40s? Everything on the 7+ sound so far away
Can I delay my audio for 500ms?
why does my audio get so laggy when i use sonar?
Does anyone know what I make the microphone not pick up my breathing?
You may be looking for "SideTone" if you go to the Engine Tab and select your headset you should be able to turn "SideTone" down or off.
I dont have a steelseries headset
But you're using the SteelSeries GG software, AND Sonar?
yes
I'm not sure you're able to control that in the GG software, you could try experimenting in the Microphone Tab under Sonar. I don't believe you're able to control that with software. (Without having a SteelSeries headset)
Ok thank you
Good luck!
since i'm using the pro+dac that already has separate game and chat channels, is it best practices to use those as is in sonar (chat to chat and game to game), or set one of the two for both and let sonar control the channels?
Go to the mixer and while breathing check how many DB is your breath. Then go to mic tab and set the noise gate to that level. The noise gate effect will cut totally your breath sound.
Ok thank you
It worked thank you
Does sonar automatically choose the preset for a game or do i have to manually select the preset every time before i start a game, for example COD:Warzone?
I used to use the engine feature before and liked it, that's why i'm asking.
Also the guy who made the Music equalizer clearly really likes Mick Gordon's work for Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal ;)
The "Steelseries Sonar - chat" seems to be a stereo headset while my "Artic Pro Wireless Chat is a mono headset...
The problem I'm having is that I can't hear from both of the stereos
Hi guys, can you give me best sonar settings?
I'm using the Destiny 2 preset and gaming while watching a couple of streams. Anytime I go into the game, the volume on anything else gets lowered. I had managed to prevent this before. Is this a Sonar thing or a Windows thing?
Im having an issue getting my chat mix toggle on my headset to work, as well as getting game and chat to be seperated. I got the Arctis 7+. Any tips?
I've been getting this a lot as well on my 7+. Only thing that works is repeated reboots or unplug/replugging the dongle. Super annoying.
that kind of humor has always been in the company in general. you saw it in both doom and quake and anything else that [id] pumped out. loved them for it.
I mean who doesn't π
it doesn't for now
@snow plaza @trail wren could I DM you to gather more info?
Sure.
hi guys, does using/enabling sonar uses more battery? Got my arctis 7 full charged yesterday and now it's drained :/
is there any reason why sonar triggers 3 different playback devices? and are you able to disable any of them and only use the one?
Just wanna say, the Bungie Destiny 2 default config is... Super flat π
sometimes when I'm playing overwatch, the chat channel just turns off and I can't hear anyone in Discord
anyone else having this problem?
Sonar has no impact on the HS battery life
Cool thanks
Let's say you wanna tune your game at best with EQ, surround etc... then this will NOT be a good tuning for your chat... With Sonar the audio streams are separate so that you can have the best tuning for game and the best for chat. You can tune independently the two. The third one is your mic to reduce noise or to make your voice sound like a pro
That preset has been created by Bungie Senior Audio Lead - the same leading in-game audio
I knew it was someone important lol Even so, still sounds very flat π
Got your point. It makes sense. Everything about audio is very subjective. What I would suggest you is to use it as a starting point to make your own.. maybe try to insist on the frequencies identified (those are supposed to be the right ones) and boost/de-boost them to see if this starts making more impact to you π
Check #config-discussion channel, I already did this and shared π I was more giving feedback on the new preset in Sonar then went off and did my own
Right, indeed I did miss your config. Gonna give it a try
I was messing around in the Throne location last night in D2, used a various assortment of weapons, had my volume literally all the way up lol It's why I also toned down the highs, Auto rifles came through a little too piercing . That bass is definitely needed though, you feel the explosions and everything just comes in a bit more full.
I noticed on the preset the music was almost non-existant too, it's like it somehow muffled that epic movie sounding background music.. Mine seems to also boost the epicness of the orchestra.. I'ma go through later and do a little more tweaking, but the one I have now still works great
is the issue with static sound from sonar fixed? (i remember reporting it about like a couple months ago)
if it is, then i am still experiencing the static sound (its even worse)
@keen mural static could be any number of things related to your setup. Do you have any recordings of this happening or what it sounds like/how persistent it is?
what preset do you guys use for sonar footsteps/fps or eq I have articus 7plus
static as in, hearing a static sound whenever theres audio
Does this happen to you for all and any audio devices? Is it specific to Steelseries products/Sonar?
anyone knows how to get rid of this popup? Or to redo the setup?
I have quite a few gripes with the sonar software / GG suite and the Arctis 7+ in general.
I'd like to have a productive conversation about this or provide feedback to an available dev/staff member. HMU if that's you.
Is anyone else having issues with Sonar? I can turn it off but it will turn back on but i cant change any settings.. Only pops up with settings when its turned off.. I updated GG to the newest update and still no help.
specific to sonar
ps: pls ping me when u reply to me, cus i dont check messages too often in this channel
Haven't had any issues up until update 16.1.0, and they aren't related to any of the GG/Sonar settings
is it possible to disable the auto set default of sonar? i want to make the chat default and gaming only when selected. but whenever i startup the app, it changes my windows settings
just started monkeying around with sonar tonight. Trying to figure out if the sonar parametric eq is meant to be used separately from the standard 10 band eq in the settings or in conjunction with. Just can't achieve the same quality of sound with the parametric that just using the basic eq is netting me.
You'll want to set the default Engine EQ to flat so Sonar isn't trying to apply another EQ over top of one already saved on the headset
That made sense to me, sound adjustments in Sonar just seem less impactful than the Engine EQ, so wasn't sure the intent of the design
I notice the configs section after update 16.1.0 no longer allows to type in the frequencies and other settings... This is going to make sharing configs very hard π Any reason that was removed?
:SoonTM:
We are working on it π
How do you turn sonar OFF?
you need to do it from settings
When using Sonar you are supposed to turn off any other audio processing (including Engine one) otherwise the FX will stack
If you wanna experience virtual surround you should π - It isn't supposed to sound weird though. Did you turn off DTS in engine?
Let me check π
what does dts stands for?
you need to click on the band directly and you'll be able to input any parameter directly on the graph
I had everything disabled except sonar, couldnβt get the audio to sound right. Pitchy, and mids weβre all wrong. Disabled sonar and went back to Engine. Iβll mess with it more later when I can get my audio tuning equipment dug out of the closet.
here in Engine. Also make sure your EQ is set to "flat"
with Sonar you have a parametric EQ meaning you don't have fixed bands, it's actually you to chose which frequency you wanna boost/lower. In practice if you use the frequency you got in Engine you will get the same result π
Need to go in Engine
Ok it seems your HS doesn't support DTS. Then the sound should be ok with Virtual Surround given that you are actually playing a multichannel content
@eager patrol I appreciate the response. I'm familiar with parametrics, I just didn't dig out my audio gear for testing and tuning last night. sounds like the headset i received is a little spikey around 2khz, but couldn't tune it out with the eq by ear. (though the standard 'eq' in Engine hit it pretty square. I'll tune them tonight with proper analysis and i'm sure it will be fine. Just had to ask the question i did when i couldn't get expected frequency response changes even setting a wide q. Otherwise i'm pretty pleased with my 7p+ headset.
Ah.. I should have seen that.. That position though is one of the new annoyances I've found with the update. It overlays on top of the other nodes when I'm trying to tweak out the config and I gotta click off and in a new area which sometimes creates another unwanted node that I have to right click on and delete.. π The old design was far better imo
^^Although it looks cooler, it's not as practical
after i change my system sound to sonar there's no more sound in my headphone?
any idea what's going on?
i'm using WIN11
and also im using arctis pro wireless
can someone help me with articus 7+, sound is so quiet and chatmix does not work
oh alr
How accurate is the directional audio from Sonar? Been using an Arctis 5 over jack audio with my Asus Xonar sound card which has very accurate surround.
Got a dodgy jack adapter but the official one is Β£17 with shipping... Thinking of trying CSGO via the USB with Sonar
A few things to check are: 1. Make sure your transmitter is set to PC, 2. Your have the APW as your audio input/output in Sonar, 3. Windows settings have Sonar as the default audio.
all checked
but still no sound
Can you please DM me a screenshot of your sound settings?
Something ive recently noticed with the sonar system
i dont like how 7.1 sounds so i turn it off
but when its turned off, i CANNOT hear anything behind me
but if i completely turn off sonar and go back to my normal game dac sound, i can hear everything, its really annoying because i love the EQs
but my being unable to hear behind me is annoying, does anyone have a fix?
I changed to sony wh1000xm4 it works now
That's werid.. I can't stand the 7.1 virtual sound neither, I actually get better surround turning it off.. π I do agree, the old engine 7.1 was far better than the new, although Sonar sounds better overall
Sonar is great for everything imo, it's just that what happens behind me isn't there, super annoying, I put up with it cause I like the sound I get from sonar and lucky I don't play games that require surround sound!
So weird because I can definitely hear behind me on Sonar without the 7.1 active π
for me its only when i deactivate it
ill have to get a clip and see if i can demonstrate it
I was testing my config for Destiny 2 couple days ago, and I specifically listened for surround as well as different frequencies to enhance the game sounds and background music.. I could hear the scorn coming up behind me more without 7.1 active than with it.. 7.1 makes everything sound really muddy, it's like the mid tones are super buffed, I hated it
ill record it real fast
its bugging me cause it was working until the patch where they introduced 7.1
im using the game dac and the arctis 5 headphones
Wonder if you run a reinstall if it'll fix it..? Although I don't know if you'll lose your config, I'd assume they are saved on cloud
ill givbe it a go in a bit
Oohh I have Arctis 7+.. Might be different for different headsets maybe..?
Unless they changed something that isn't compatible with the A5 yet..? I'd assume that would have been announced though
its really subtle
but its annoying when people are full on casting loud abilities and i just cant hear it
so when shes walking behind me, the sound just completely cuts out
or is so quiet i cant hear it
here is another example
you can really hear it when the Wagon comes past, as soon as the horses pass me, all its sound cuts out
WAIT WHAT
its not happening on the recording
im starting to wonder if its just my headphones
I was about to say, I hear it going all around you lol
Do you have a firmware update by chance?
but in game i cant hear them
for the headset
I was encountering weird problems after 16.1.0 update, but noticed I had a firmware update.. I wonder if this is an update you can force..?
One of the dev's/staff would have to tell you if it looks right, I'm unfamiliar with the A5 headset.. I'm guessing there'd be different firmware versions for different headset models
turning sonar off and on again
see if that works
just want to clarify, its not just happening in this game, its every game i play
but it seems that the sound always comes through on the recording
so i can hear the back channels on the recordings, just not from the games
I'm guessing you did the other basic of closing out GG entirely and opening again.. I'd assume you probably rebooted since update at some point already
Sounds more like something that a dev/staff member would need to run with you on.. Might maybe post this issue in #sonar-feature-requests and see if one of them can troubleshoot further. If videos come through just fine, the headset is operational as well as Sonar itself. Since the games aren't coming through, there's a miscommunication from game to headset software which might not be something as simple as a setting in GG.
I'd still try a reinstall, couldn't hurt.. But then again, I don't know if it saves configs so that would be trial and error if you try it
I bet that's what it was π
I wonder if it just didn't catch that you needed that update
All else fails, run a PC reboot.. It's software, but it's audio software.. Can be finicky on different PC systems
am i being dumb?
That looks like the super old GG π
Did you download from website or use a previous download?
i downloaded from the website
Interesting... Is there an About section anywhere?
Wonder if it's because you have the A5.. Didn't think GG looked different for different headsets, at least not the main program
wow lol Mine was all in one package
Or I think it was... Now I don't remember
well ill have it in a sec
uh
no its not a seperate download
it should all be in 1 package
This might be why I can run Sonar and the engine at the same time and it conflicts if I did a double download
Try deselecting the beta tic in settings.. Close out, reopen, and opt in again
then itll be there
Yup that's what I was thinking lol
If it still doesn't work, might be time to call on the dev's lol I'm running out of options π
Hmm.....
Might have an idea to check
aaaand it didnt work
You got Sonar to open or no
Ah yeah, to actually activate it.. I forgot I had to do that too lol
Once active, make sure on the Mixer tab under Gaming in Sonar you hit the drop down and choose Headphones Arctis 5
Thank you Jarminx
You'll also need to choose the virtual audio cable thing in your Windows Sound Settings, and not use the actual Arctis 5 defaults
its a lot less frustrating doing this tuff with someone chatting with you XD
I know the feels lol
Steelseries Sonar - Gaming is the windows sound default you wanna choose
Now try your games, once you've confirmed the Gaming in the mixer is set to your headset too π
Hmm... Now it's probably time to hit up the dev's.. At least they can see all that you did in here though, which rules out all the basics plus some.. Might still be just an A5 thing not compatible with stuff in Sonar, but I'm not a dev so I couldn't tell you
okok
im so confused
recordings dont show the issue, and i can hear the back channels when im listening to a video, but when im in game, i cant hear iy
does anyone have a normal pvp config for destiny 2 ?
I put up a Destiny 2 config earlier in #config-discussion, it's not specifically built for PvP, but I did try to make it so footsteps of NPC's can be heard, might help some for you until someone else does up an actual PvP config..? π Could probably lower some of the bass tones to help enhance footsteps even more
Hello! I just want to say that the devs that work on Sonar did a very great job!!!! π
And i am very thankfull that it finnaly fixes my bass!! Before i used Sonar it distorded without hitting high volume. But now i have a deep bass and high volume! π
I've been working for the past hour to try to get a decent general configuration using the 7.1 virtual surround tab.. I just can't get it to sound decent at all, it's super muddy and over enhances the mids to the point, no matter how much tweaking I do, nothing sounds good on it. I also notice the sliders for bass boost, treble boost, ect seem to act like a compressor while they do what they are supposed to do. Frequencies will duck behind other frequencies acting like a sidechain effect. I get more even sound when I turn them all off and just mess with the frequencies, but then I also lose a little bit of some of those effects. Highly frustrating, not sure I can get a decent config using 7.1. The old engine DTS 7.1 was much much better. No idea how that even worked compared to Sonar's, but I remember loving DTS on the old engine when I had my Arctis 7 headset
Does anyone have a config for the 7p+ that aims for perfect sound reproduction (flat response) rather than eq'ing game sounds?
Dumb bot π
link bot nailed your response i think lol, dm it to me?
im ghetting quite a lot of static and i wasnt before sonar any ideas why?
Make sure there isn't a firmware update, mine did similar after the latest update.. Firmware update fixed it
Main engine, should be a notification under the name of your headset
wass urs kinda on and off every now and then
Yeah, wasn't all the time
Someone earlier with an Arctis 5 ended up reinstalling for another issue and the firmeware update prompted after that.. Not sure if it's just some headsets or if there's a fluke with the firmware update showing up.. Haven't heard anything from the dev's about it
oh i havbe arctis 5 too
so just uninstall gg and reinstall
Issue earlier I think was the surround not actually working, or the wide soundstage not prompting in games, but works when gameplay is recorded to video..
You could try, not sure if configs are cloud based in Sonar, so keep that in mind
kk i will try that
If it doesn't work, might post that in #sonar-feature-requests and see if dev's/staff respond.. Might be an issue with the latest update and the A5's.. Since you're the second person to have issues after the update and it's also an A5.. I'm not a dev/staff though, so this is just what I've noticed so far
Good luck, hope it prompts and works π
thanks
Yep that worked thanks
this feature is awesome
is there a way to get an Overwatch configuration in the gaming tab in sonar like there is already apex gta and other things?
is it just me or does discord not want to pick up the sonar mic?
it did once and then stopped
Hi guys! I've got a Arctis 9X for my Xbox Series X and have been playing Destiny 2. Today I loaded up GG and saw there is a a new Sonar preset for D2. I clicked to Join Early Access and upgraded GG to v16.1.0, but don't see any D2 Sonar preset for the 9X. Am I doing something wrong?
Make sure to choose the Sonar defaults for both Windows sound settings and in Discord. GG also needs to be running for it to work, which it most likely is but just to toss that out there π
ALSO.. Make sure it's the chat Sonar device and not the microphone, unless you're using the microphone mixer as your headset mic.. Mine defaulted to chat mixer, and my condenser defaulted to microphone mixer. Either way, what you choose in the mixer as the default device, Windows and Discord both have to be set to that specific virtual audio device. Mic to mic, chat to chat..
is there anyway to only have the preset eq when a game is launched?
or disable the auto sonar window default
Sonar is well made but with the Arctis 1 wireless i keep haviong a problem where it kills m7y headset triple as fast\
Hi Everyone,
Anybody with nice set up EQ Artic wireless PRO - Escape from Tarkov specificaly for foot steps ??
How do I reset my sonar settings? I selected the wrong things and now I donβt know how to reset it
Would love to see what you have for EFT
What fun would that be? lol π
Hey, I'm new here so not sure if this is the write place to post this but hoping someone can help me. Just purchased an Arctis 7+. also downloaded the Steelseries GG and using Sonar rather than Engine. I primarily play Warzone but having some issue with the presets. If I use the COD preset, the guns sound like they're miles away from me except they're right next to me. What I would ideally like is to have all the sounds there but reduce the amount of noise the guns make and prioritise the sounds of Footsteps & reviving. does anyone have any setting like this that I can use or that they recommend might work best for Warzone? Or if anyone has some good setting for the normal engine that could also be good and maybe ill wait to use Sonar. Thanks π
Hello Komi, if you have 7.1 off in Sonar the sound is downmixed to stereo - meaning you have left and right. You are not supposed to hear behind you. If this happens without Sonar then I am wondering if you have DTS (which is the same effect of 7.1) enabled in your gamedac.... that might explain the behavior.
I suggest to set everything to flat in engine (and turn off DTS or any virtual surround software) then go in sonar and test out with or without 7.1
Thank you Sonar devs appreciate π
ive had a go at this already, its being weird and not really working still, but when i turn sonar off, even with DTS turned off i can still hear things that come from behind me
its literally only when i use sonar and when 7.1 is turned off while using sonar
also all my recordings will play the sound that comes from behind me while ive got sonar on, its litearlly only while im playing any and all games that i cant hear whats behind me, yet when i watch the recordings back i CAN hear whats behind me
