Hi, I upgraded my old Arctis 7 to Arctis 7+ as the old one was starting to break down. What a disappointment: the best feature for me in Arctis 7 was the automatic detection if headset is on or off: if off, it would direct the sound from the USB dongle to Line out.
Now, with Arctis 7+, every time I need to switch from headset to speakers or to VR, I need to open the sonar and select audio devices for Game, Chat and Mic channels. That's 13 clicks minimum. My use cases are following:

• Play music/videos or single player games: I need Game channel to be directed to motherboard line out device.
• Play multiplayer flat screen games or video conferencing: Game, Chat and Mic must be set to Arctis 7+ headset.
• Play VR multiplayer: Game Chat and Mic must be set to the VR headset.
  Any pointers or suggestions to switch easily between those three "profiles." I'm also open to 3rd party software/tools to get this junk usable.
  Note: The Backup Device Switch in GG Settings works only for Nova series. Wish I would've known what I lose when I decided to upgrade my headset to the "plus" version...

Many SteelSeries headsets come with Sidetone, which allow you to hear yourself through the headset’s mic for better clarity when talking.

Hey, I had a stupid question: I'm using the Arctis 1 on my xbox series X. My chat/game mix is horrendous with my game volume much too loud compared to my chat. I hate that there is no way to adjust on the headset itself, but when I go into the Sonar settings I can't find anywhere to play both game sound and chat sound at the same time to get the mix right. Do I have to just keep going from my PC to my xbox until I get it right?

sonar settings only apply on the PC thats running it. the settings won't carry over to xbox.

last I checked all the arctis 1 headsets are analog headsets (they use the 3.5mm and plug into the controller) so they don't really communicate back to the console, so a dial wouldn't really work. you'd at least need a USB headset so it can communicate.

I used the wireless Steelseries 7X+ and all three options are greyed out on the Xbox. But you have all options when you use a wired HS like the Arctis Pro with the 3,5mm plugin cable with the controller. With wireless HS all options or some options are greyed out.

Make 2 different EQs and mark them as favorite then it's really quick to swap between the EQs hope that helps if you're not doing it already 😉

weird issue i've only had with sonar. trying to play Okami HD, but it refuses to play audio through the gaming output. it'll only play audio through the chat input. no idea if it's the game or steelseries.

Engine is used to modify device settings. Generally, any changes made in Engine are saved to the device itself, and can be carried over to other devices such as consoles. It's recommended to check the SteelSeries support pages for more information on what is saved on-board for your particular product.

Sonar is used to enhance your audio on the PC that is currently running it. Changes in Sonar only apply to the machine it's running on and cannot be saved to the headset.

yep, sonar is PC only and nothing will carry over. Engine is what you'd want to use to control the onboard headset features. there's usually a basic EQ in Engine along with some other stuff like power options or sidetone controls.

we are FINALLY seeing some steelseries headsets support the fancy EQs and features from Sonar in Engine directly on the headset, but right now that's only limited to the Nova 5 headsets and the Gamebuds, both of which are the newest headsets that came out this year.

I have an artics nova pro and it does the static buzzing noise whenever I am in a call for bluetooth, for pc it isnt an issue. Make sure that you arent connected with the bluetooth if you are in pc and press the button of the left.

hey, just recently discovered that it is indeed possible if your keyboard knob supports zoom mode, put it to macOS mode if your on windows or windows mode if your on macOS so that it doesn't zoom, then just set it in keyboard shortcuts for sonar

I mean I have to be honest with you here, this is a pretty cheap cop-out. When you advertise your product as being able to channel audio sources, only to then figure out it blasts every single audio source through discord anyway, then something's going wrong somewhere and the product isn't working as intended.

Bit disappointed to be reading these types of comments from the community staff, when apps like Voicemeeter do this right. If I channel my audio through game, and I channel all voice audio through "chat", I don't expect nor should I have to expect for all my chat audio to be routed through the game source irrespective of my settings. At that point - something is wrong. And then making comments like you're making is neither helpful nor particularly respectful in my opinion. Whether it's discord's fault, or Sonar.

I don't see how it would be though. By all accounts, discord screenshare grabs the audio from the audio device that's set as "default device" in windows audio settings.

That's how it worked when I was using my headset's own sources - and how it worked when I was using VM

The default device's audio is what played through Discord

So somehow, somewhere, it appears to be routing the chat source through game

Which is double confusing, because Shadowplay does the same - and it's not picking it up there.

Maybe you're right in the end, it's a puzzling issue - that's for sure.

hey if your looking for a fix i have a temporary one this is if your only meaning full screen screenshare

When using Sonar during a discord full window stream it shares discord and mic audio on the stream. The fix is to use "sndvol" in the WIN+R menu then muting Sonar and Discord from the headset your using; not sonars virtual headphone (Chat and Gaming) inputs.

this will fix it but when you restart your computer you may have to mute sonar again

you should probably setup the output device to be Sonar - Chat, but otherwise it looks like your mic is setup correctly. the warning in sonar doesn't go away even if it's setup correctly.

I cant route my audio bc it wants to go through MOTIV MIX (shures version of sonar) and its really messing up my streaming audio. Mic volume is super low when maxed out in sonar. I am wondering if anyone else had this, but I was previously using Arctic 7 and just recently got the Arctis Nova 7. Hi everyone, I have a question: I just switched to the Nova 7 (Dragon Edition) and I can no longer configure my ChatMix like before. I used to use the Arctis 5, and since I play while watching videos, I set the Chat side of ChatMix to equal Chat and Media in Sonar (so I could hear the video more and the game less). Now with the Nova 7, I can't configure it the same way. In summary, I would like to be able to put my video in the Media settings of Sonar and adjust its volume with my ChatMix. I'm a Twitch-streamer using OBS, and I've previously opted to use different methods to control my audio that weren't all that great. And then, just recently, one of my streamer-friends suggested that I would try out SteelSeries Sonar to manage my audio instead, as her setup works great, and she uses Sonar as well.

So I did. We spent several hours configuring and tweaking it to work properly with OBS, but when I started streaming, I noticed that all my third party apps such as SoundAlerts, Tangia, Blerp etc., simply wouldn't sound off into the headphones anymore, but the stream however, gets to hear everything.

In other words: Even though, according to OBS, it is monitoring both output and input, it only monitors input. And to me, that sounds like a configuration issue that we might've caused, or a setting we might've overlooked while we were optimizing for stream.

But I cannot, for the death of me, figure out what we did wrong, or what we didn't do. I'm really hoping someone can help me out here, I'm really at my wits end... 🤞🏽🙏🏽🤷🏽‍♂️

That “Steelseries Sonar” logo next to the profile means that the profile is stored in the application.

That profile will not be available when connected to Xbox, because Sonar isn’t running on your Xbox.

However, through the base station you can configure a custom EQ curve that will be applied when you are using the headset on Xbox.

You can probably get it close to this custom Sonar curve.

Hello, I got a problem that started bugging me two days ago, the master channel of Sonar suddenly stopped being available as an output device for my computer. I hear everything correctly, but my keyboard can no longer control the master volume, it can now only control the volume of the specific channel that I have set as output device in my computer. This is very annoying since i cannot reduce the volume in general if I need to hear anything coming from the outside or just not become deaf because everything is too loud

I also noticed my friends now hear themselves when sharing the whole screen with discord, which did not happen before I started using sonar but happens ever since then.

Is there anything I could do to fix any of these two issues?

Enable capture, enable auto clipping and then disable reaction clipping. Then disable auto clipping again and then lastly disable capture

how come there isnt any setting for samplerate inside sonar forcing 96khz requires more power and for a "gaming" focused eq and software this would harm perfomance?

1.why is there no external import for eq settings,this can be used bye different application ie:autoeq,squiglink to share eqs without having to manully input most modern eqs use this wavelet ect

Hi Community, I use my Steelseries Arctis Nova 7 Headset now for quiet a while (around 2 years). But there is something really annoying, which always existed. But only now I am looking for a solution.

Everytime I start my Computer, there are different Audio inputs and outputs selected in Sonar. Everytime I have to open sonar and change the devices to arctis nova 7 for all rows. Sometimes I want to use another output, there is the same problem then. I was not able to find a way to save a selection of inputs and outputs to easy load the next time, or to define a autostart setting. Is there any way to get this problem solved? I really love the Headset but it drives me crazy!

If you go into Steelseries GG -> Settings -> Sonar settings, there should be a tab called “backup device switch”

Make sure your headset is at the top of the list for all of your channels

It sounds like some other output/input devices are being preferred, so I’d try setting those parameters first.

SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.

You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.

well, the thing is, the way sonar works is that you set apps to output to the various sonar devices (game/chat/media/aux), then Sonar applies it's audio effects, then it sends it off to your headset/speakers. if you're disabling the devices in windows, then sonar can't get the audio. i'm sure the app will still be open and allow you to change settings but they won't really apply if you're disabling them.

probably never since by the time the audio goes source > sonar > output it'll have too much delay. that's why most steelseries headsets or devices with sidetone generate the sidetone onboard directly.

if Sonar - Game isn't set as the main device in Windows, then you'd run into the same problem i just mentioned where audio wouldn't be routed into Sonar. Apps on your PC check what audio device to output to, and if it's not set to Sonar, then it's not going to apply effects.

also like Lennart mentioned, Sonar isn't designed to only be used with the mic. Every time Sonar turns on it's going to set itself as the Windows output no matter what.

if not download bog standard ccleaner from there website the free version once installed do not scan open tools then registry then scan then review and fix backup save the registry when asked repeat till there is nothing left to fix then reboot system download a clean version of gg change usb port and install

I bought the SteelSeries nova pro wired for ps5 use and saw an article that some sonar presets were added to the engine presets dropdown menu about a year ago, so consoles can use some game tailor made presets (not sonar itself I know this is pc only).
When I open gg on my Mac (I don’t game on it just using it to update the gg engine eq) I did the latest firmware update (v78) but still only the standard presets are appearing there.
Has anyone got any clue how to fix this so I can use them?
I play only warzone on ps5 so would like to use the warzone/blackops 6 preset if possible.

Anyone know how to fix my issue? So if I leave my headset hooked up to my PC it will turn off after a while of no activity which is fine with me. When I turn my headset back on there will be no audio going to it at all. Sonar shows there is audio going to the headset. when i change the audio to my speakers it plays just fine. In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.

You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.

I have purchased SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless and I have installed SteelSeries GG on the computer. The first few days I could change the EQ settings so I could have under Media "Music: Deep Bass" "Flat" and so on. But out of nowhere, I don't notice any difference if I change the EQ, it sounds the same all the time.. However, it sounds different if I move e.g. Spotify from Media to Games instead.. Feels like I've tried everything possible with settings in Windows, factory reset the headset and searched the internet/youtube. I've tried skimming through this thread but had trouble finding anything relevant.

Hi all! I have the Arctis Pro Wireless headset and whenever the SteelSeries GG is running my monitor will not go to sleep. This is particularly important since I have an OLED panel. I've tried changing the Sync Settings from "Sync automatically" to "Overwrite" but that doesn't make a difference. Personally got Artics Nova 5p and getting from time to time a change in audio volume with no settings changed. Randomly when starting up the headphones the volume can be about 10-50x louder.

The routing part is mostly a Windows thing, Sonar is purely a GUI to it, it doesn't actually do any of the routing

in one sense the game/chat thing is kinda a self imposed limit since yeah, you can just disable the VADs

but in another sense, Sonar has been designed around game/chat since the beta came out in 2021, so i imagine it's a lot of work to make it so that you don't use any VADs and just use the mic stuff

and the list goes on

even fl can do audio processing
