yeah, the fallback detection only works on Arctis Nova headsets. the 7+ is not a Nova headset

there's still some basic fallback, like if the headset is fully disconnected (i.e the dongle is pulled out) but otherwise you might want to look into the keybinds to switch between headset/speakers?

Thanks to this program in one place. I was able to configure the sound of my microphone and the sound of my chat and the sound of my game, without installing a huge amount of software, but doing everything from one window. This is great. Thank you for such a work.

1. However, I have some ideas that I would like to offer you, one of them is my constant pain and the greatly changing volume of my teammates in the voice chat. You have a sound compression function in the "chat" section, but as far as I noticed, it does not work as expected by me and those I was interested in from my circle. I would like to suggest moving the "volume normalization" function from the "media" section (some names may not quite match the names from the program, since I use a translator). This would allow not only to reduce the dynamic range of the volume of the teammates' microphones, but also to limit its peak values! After all, despite my love for good, comfortable sound, not everyone shares my love, and sometimes it is impossible to buy them good microphones and adjust the sound due to their lack of interest.

2. I also noticed that my multimedia volume knob on the keyboard does not work with this program. When I try to change the volume on this multimedia key, the volume in the system does not change. Although the Windows icon about changing the volume is displayed, the numbers in it do not change. Maybe you can somehow add this functionality in the future? Anticipating your question: I tried to bind this knob in the hotkeys section - it does not bind, because it is a multimedia "key". If this is important, then the epomaker rt100 keyboard

I'm an Audio-Video developer and I noticed something funny about Sonar. When trying to interact with a Sonar Virtual Device with the Windows WASAPI audio API, Sonar rejects all IsFormatSupported() requests using old style WAVEFORMATEX descriptors (instead the more modern WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE descriptors).

It's easy enough to fix this in my own app, but I can't fix third party apps. Notably the WebRTC-org c++ sdk uses WAVEFORMATEX for output devices.

My Yeti Nano mic through Sonar sounds way low than without it, it's doing some strange filtering, I disabled every effect and EQ and it still sounds very low, I tried with higher % on the master mix but I just sound saturated than plain up higher, isn't there any way to just set it to "passthrough" or something? When a device disconnects which mine does often because of a faulty wire, and you have only 1 device set to 'backup device switch' it should behave by allowing the mic to reconnect, but I always have to toggle off then back on to the mic to fix it. This behaviour is only correct when I have two mics setup to backup, but I do not want to have to use a different mic.

I would understand if it behaved like this where it just stayed to no mic if I had none set to backup device. LMK if I should leave this elsewhere.

Honestly, I have nothing but issues with this PoS software. Drives me crazy. If it's not automatically switching on a video recorder I don't want installed, it's turning on some dumb "AI" noise cancelling.

and here's the thing. steelseries COULD fix this issue by making it an option in the drivers or whatever to expose the headset as two different options (game/chat) for output and one for input - or they could make the sonare software a lot more intuitive.

show me a person who wants to click a bunch of options inside software every time they want to use their headset. they dont. they jsut want to put it on and play - then take it off and hear music/movie/whatever through their speakers because their headset is off

it honestly just sounds like you're running into a bug. the headset you are using should have output detection. so if you've checked the backup device settings and it looks correct, but it's not doing the switching, then it's a bug and you should contact support about it

Why does this app suck so much? It's always dropping my device settings on two different PCs with two different Arctis headsets and is utterly annoying! I keep the Steelseries.GG app updated but Sonar is horrid with randomly resetting device assignments for the various mix channels.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.

You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.

Hello everyone! I encountered a problem that when GG sonar is installed by default (as it should be), it does not transmit 5.1 sound to the rear speakers. I have a Logitech Z - 506, and if they are set by default, the sound is transmitted. As soon as sonar takes control, the sound no longer goes. In the control panel in the settings, 5.1 is set. About my sonar adventure as a creator, followed by a cry for help

Has anyone with a custom default audio devices configuration ever used sonar successfully and can give me tipps?
I have a bunch of audio devices, like my XLR interface, voicemeeter with different sources, even VBAN network sources. And therefor VM is my master mixer, for reasons.
I got as far as forwarding 7.1 audio to the sonar game input (even though sonar complains that my default audio devices are wrong - Spoiler: They are not! They are purrfectly correct). When I try to separate chat audio to sonar chat input sonar complains about "something went wrong" without any useful error information.
And the worst of all. Sonar keeps changing my default audio devices in Windows every single time it launches. If you want some software which drives you from insanity to pure hatered, well sonar it prolly is. For now I just disabled the whole GG shebang and downsample my 7.1 audio to 2 ch. for the default Nova Pro device.

So has anyone managed to create a proper setup with sonar, whilst keeping voicemeeter as the primary mixer and default windows devices? Or even better, set up proper surround sound completely without sonar? Would be blessing really. At the end of the day that is all I want. Proper surround sound without additional software sigh

The "game" driver is only being used by 3 apps tho, signal rgb, Spotify and wallpaper engine

So you'd probably need to increase volume in those apps

Hey Sonar devs, big fan. Thank you for the consistent updates. 🤘 Just got 3 of my friends to download it yesterday for the ai noise cancelling. I see yall keep making the UI more and more compact, I think that's fantastic. Might I suggest full on committing to having a mode to only show the channels you are mixing. Right now there's a lot of extra space it takes up on screen. Having an essentials only mode would be nice or even just the ability to shrink the window further to hide the unused channels.

In voicemeeter I had it configured, that every sound goes to voicemeeter and then to my headset. Except spotify which was send on a virtual driver to voicemeeter and also output on that virtual driver.

In that way, in osb for streaming I can have my spotify work on a different audio line and I can disable this audio line for the VOD later so I can just hear any music on stream without it getting recorded on twitch.

Can I somehow activate 2 inputs/outputs on sonar aswell?

Finally had a chance to test this. Line-out from back of speaker to Line-in on transmitter and using the button on the speaker to switch back and forth. It works but only on the left side of the headphones and the volume is really low even when maxxed out on all devices. The OLED screen shows only volume on the left as well. Not sure what to do to make the sound come out of both sides of the headphones and for the volume to be louder.

Depends on where you want to route your windows app to. I think gaming generally works, because whenever you open up a game application then the sound routes to gaming.

If you go to sonar, you can find out where to route each application to (such as browsers and music applications)

I like the level of control offered there but it seems a bit too much trouble to go in and independently change the output option for each channel (game, media, chat) Is there not an option that exists inside the sonar app that will allow me to change the output for ALL channels at once?

And another question: I've noticed that when using Sonar, I am unable to control master volume with windows. That means I am also unable to use my volume wheel on my Apex 7 keyboard. Any workaround for this? It would be great if I could somehow route the volume wheel on the keyboard to control the master slider in sonar. Its all the same brand so this should be possible shouldn't it?

Yes, you should make changes in the sonar app and not in your windows settings. Since sonar is the "default" source, it should be treated as the default mixer.

I personally don't use the presets, but that's just because it isn't much of a hassle to go in every time and change Sonar for what I need it for. I assume the presets work that way though!

I believe that your windows volume works as a "master fader" on a physical soundboard mixer. It can dim and raise all sound, but it does not control specific channels (i.e turning it down will turn down all sources of game, chat, aux, and microphone audio down at once, versus turning down each individually in the Sonar mixer).

Maybe it is possible using macros, but I am personally unsure as I do not have the same capability with my keyboard. Look at your steel series settings for your keyboard to see if you can customize it!

I can not find an option to make any presets anywhere. The only "presets" I can find are for EQ settings, but I am looking for presets that control which channels are routed to which output source.

I switch between my headset and my speakers fairly often and right now I have to go into Sonar and switch the audio output for 3 different channels. You been right. The headset is not for me so I am returning it.
I tried it on stream now and it actually physically hurts my ears. So no way even if the Sonar software would get fixed. I done attached a list of the 4 major flaws of the headset for them to consider in product development. I am going back to my old Arctis, which is still superior to the new Nova one.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.

Alright, i have no clue how this happened. Im posting this both in Sonar and Moments as i dont know which ones problem it is.

I recently tried setting up sonar. The only reason i wanted sonar was to keep my music out of my clips. So i set it up, everything works fine and dandy. No music, My discord is seperate. But my game audio sounds like chimes, alternatively someone dragging a fork against an endless plate. Its not just constant audio (i did have that problem aswell but found the issue and fixed it), its whenever i make any game noise at all. For example starting the queue for a game, just sounds like someone hit a triangle.

I genuinely have no clue how to fix this. Ive tried everything ive seen online and nothing works. Here is a short list of things ive done:

1. Change default output to the regular headset instead of the game VAD (Fixed issue but made media be hearable again)
2. Yes. i have tried restarting everything, reinstalling everything etc
3. No, it is not my audio drivers.
4. Turning off things like the equalizer, spacial audio etc
   And pretty much anything else you will find on the first 5 pages of google, asking chat gpt or surfing the steelseries forums.

Would love some help here, ive tried looking in this channel for an answer but cant find anything (it was 5 am and i was probably not the best searcher). At the moment ive resorted to clipping using another software and just using the simple engine. Would love to swap back as i genuinely enjoyed some of the features sonar brought me, but if it ruins my clips completely its kind of a no go.

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

I know it's set to channel 2 instead of 4 on my headset, that's not the issue. Usually, chat is set to channel 2 and I get audio through that (although for some reason, despite the profile being completely untouched, audio through that channel sounds awful and drops entire ranges so I'm trying to figure out what that's about as well)

the profiles are all flat, only equalizers and spatial audio are turned on where possible, but turning them off, or off and back on, seems to have absolutely no effect on the lack of audio to my media channel as well as the frankly terrible quality that the Arctis Pro Wireless has been putting out on the Chat Channel (Channel 2, not the chat channel in Sonar)

I've been using my Arctic 7 for about a week now, trying different options with and without Sonar. When not using sonar the volume is just abysmal even with volume limiter off in Engine so i'm stuck using Sonar it seems which is fine even if it is inconvenient. However i have noticed that some desktop notifications simply don't happen when using Sonar, for example i don't get a sound pop when someone writes on discord. Anyone know why? I've tried enabling the discord app in Engine

it looks like the outputs in sonar are set to voicemeeter. the chatmix slider only works through the headset if the outputs in sonar are set to the headset directly

since sonar is currently outputting to voicemeeter it might be sending audio to the wrong place and making it so that you can't hear it. you should make sure that it's going to the right device.

once it's set this way, make sure the apps are routed to sonar so you can hear them as well. your last screenshot showed a lot of apps under "master" that aren't routed to anything in sonar

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

once again the chatmix stops working, all settings are as they should and it registers that i rotate the wheel but still no change... the last two times it happened it seemed to be because of a shadow update (i dont know what to call it) and the problem existed for a few days.
The chatmix is THE reason i buy steelseries and its so anoying when this occurs because my chat and overall sound is not optimized for reguular headphones without chatmix

devices show in the mixer in sonar as long as it's playing audio (or in OBS's case, as long as there's an active audio stream open). even if you route OBS out of sonar it'll still show under Master under the "apps to be routed" box. there's really no way to "remove" it from the list entirely, but as long as you have OBS set to not record sonar outputs and not output to sonar itself then it shouldn't interact with sonar at all.

Hi everyone. Before I log a feature request, I just want to check that this isn't possible yet.
I want to have an EQ per device in sonar (using the device backup settings).
I am using a steelseries arctis nova pro wireless and want to have one EQ for my headset and then another EQ for my other audio devices (like my earbuds).
Is this possible? I can only see a way to do it per channel which seems to apply to all my backup devices.

unfortunately what you're asking isn't possible in sonar, but you can edit the EQ in Engine which will apply it directly to the headset. that way it'll have the same EQ no matter what.
