Press Win + R. Then type sndvol. Then go to the sonar microphone device and after it’s selected, mute the discord slider. Then go to your BASE (non sonar) headset and mute the discord slider

Hello there! Im looking for someone that could help me in something that really bothers me. Anytime I share my screen anywhere and any window, my voice can be heard in the screen share and even in normal voice. If I mute myself then people can hear everything from my screen share and meaning that the mute button server nothing while I share my screen. I was inspired to come here to complain because about once a week my headphones just become unresponsive. They are powered on but the only sound they will make is the system beeps when powering on/off or toggling mute. GG, this wretched software, says they are connected and re-syncing them does nothing. Sonar shows output is set to my Arctis headphones, my system sound settings are set correctly as always, I never change them. The only solution when this happens is to completely restart my computer.

Oh then when I restart GG defaults inputs and outputs to my oculus which I havent had plugged in for months.

Also I generally hate how GG does screen capture of your gameplay by default?? wtf, that's the first thing I turned off. That coupled with the fact that the landing screen for the software is a wall of ads, plus the aim trainer I never asked for and don't want. It's a tough competition, but GG might be the most bloated and unresponsive piece of software I have installed.

Anyone using any alternatives to GG they would recommend? Do alternatives even work? I like my headphones well enough but I would be elated to uninstall this mess

• You can go into the backup device settings to turn off the sonar output switching to the oculus headset
• game capture isn't on by default. you must have turned it on and forgot, or didn't read the settings during setup
• 3DAT isn't installed by default, it only gets installed once you launch it for the first time

I opened a bug and went back and forth for about 2 months before they closed it, and my own research/messing around leads me to believe it has something to do with Windows Audio Service and the Sonar Audio Processing Object and how they react to being put to sleep, but apparently technical support and the devs didn't find anything; and most of the online/reddit stuff is years old on the subject or that the sound isn't working at all, which isn't my case

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

I have just bought a nova 5 and was messing around with sonar and eq and have noticed that my settings doesn't apply immediately unless I switch the program into that "audio block" or whatever.

I wanted an eq into every audio source I have (game, chat, media, aux, etc) so I can make my audio clearer

I did however find my own workaround to make my settings apply but the issue is now, I can't move certain program blocks around. I have selected which audio source it should go to in my Windows sound settings app but the svchost and nvcontainer which you see in my above screenshot, doesn't allow to be moved around. Those two are for my elgato and when I change an eq setting for "game" I am unable to apply my settings the way how I want and make my changes be reflected.

So you wanna just have Sonar as your default, then distribute the outputs as you need in Sonar.

If it keeps throwing the not allowed error try giving Sonar Admin rights.

Also most programs will simply override GG if the settings don't match. Check the volume mixer settings as well as the programs/games themselves.

Route it through Windows

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

Should be instant like in Sonar. But I'd say that shows you it's a Windows issue and not Sonar, since the routing in Sonar basically controls the Windows routing. Get it to work in windows and you'll probably see it working in Sonar

Btw, I could be wrong, but afaik youtube does not support 5.1/7.1 on browsers. Only TVs/Chromecasts. So make sure you're using appropriate test audio.

I just turned on my Arctis 7 wireless and I want to use Media as output. Windows is set to output on Sonar-Media, but I hear nothing. If I change to standard Arctis 7 output, then I hear stuff. Why is this happening?

Oh I fixed it, in a very interesting way. Apparently you have to manually adjust the output channel in the mixer as well... Good to know.

No I wanted to use Media specifically as output because I was listening to some music. But I thought it automatically changed all the output to Media when I switched in Windows. But the mixer in Sonar apparently doesn't do that. So when I switched Media to actual Sonar-Media output, it was fine.

Sonar gets stuck in a loading loop and won't open on occasion.

Also, sonar channels change devices on its own. So, I'll make Stremio use tv speakers while games and steam come through the game channel set to headphones. The media channel will then switch to headphones opn it's own everytime the app is restarted

#sonar Friends, hello everyone. I just talked to support.I had a situation where SteelSeries GG Sonar wouldn't work even after reinstalling.

Before proceeding as requested please ensure you have a screenshot of your custom configurations/macros as the steps listed before will be resetting your drives. Also please ensure you save any clips to your desktop as well. This can cause you to lose any custom configurations/macros as well as any clips you have..

I did the following steps:

1. Launched CMD as administrator and executed the command:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

2. Then executed the command

sfc /scannow (as administrator) I received the following message attached in the screenshot that everything is fine. You can see it in the second screenshot.

3. Then deleted SteelSeries GG.

4. Rebooted the computer.

5. Downloaded from the SteelSeriesGG website, after installation everything worked fine.

I have no way to test as my 72.0.0 works just fine lol.
The method is obviously sound, as it's first using the DISM to restore any damage your Windows image might have, then running the SFC to check the Windows system files. Finally they have you remove SGG and reinstall it.

Means most likely something fucked with WinSxS, the component store.+

Is it possible to set up sonar to use asio drivers? Using default windows drivers my audio interface's two stereo channels are showing up as two halves of a single audio device (so input 1 can be heard on the left side, and input 2 can only be heard on the right side). Your headset locks the volume in Windows to 100%. You're supposed to use the DAC. Unfortunately the keyboard doesn't communicate with the DAC, it just sends volume commands to Windows, and since the headset is locked at 100%, it won't work.

the only thing to add is to redo step 1 if you actually have an update to apply after step 2. i had windows update from 23H2 to 24H2 last night and I needed to rerun the installer.

rule of thumb is that if you need to restart your PC to run the windows update then it might help to run the GG reinstall after

it's because geforce/shadowplay can only record two audio outputs: one of them is your mic, and the other one is your main output on windows. since sonar separates the chat audio to a separate audio device, it can't record it.

your options are to:

• disable sonar/chatmix and just have everything output to "Game"
• use the streamer mode to crush the outputs into one
• use something like Moments which can record more than two audio outputs

Hi there, Sonar doesn't seem to swap virtual devices dependant on media. i.e When playing Valorant i have that app on Game virtual device profile. If i switch off valorant and put on spotify, spotify is played on media but Sonar does not switch to the Media virtual device as a default device. As a result the volume controls on my keyboard or on my headset will still only affect Game virtual device as that is the default device. Any way around this where Sonar will change the default virtual device automatically ?

I just got the nova 7 today, and im tryin to configure my stuff. I have discord output set to sonar chat but the output is all weird and glitchy. It plays at like 20% volume, then will randomly spike for a half second and go back to being weirdly quiet and glitchy. If I change the output to Steelseries Nova 7 (the certified output) it plays just fine. Same with if I set it to the game channel. It just seems to be the chat that it weird and glitchy. Sonar resets and rearranges my backup devices randomly, almost every day at this point. Usually happens when waking up from sleep. Devices that were excluded go back to being included in every category, the headset is always last in the list, and it's hit or miss if it will switch things back to normal after I correct the device list.
Any similar reports or troubleshooting steps? Haven't found much in Discord search.

I've ran into two bugs I'd liked fixed in sonar but I can't create a 2nd post under the feature request chat area. Is there a timer on how many you can make per day?

This is the bug and my suggestion for how it should work..

When I boot up windows 11 it no longer remembers my fav or last audio mic and output like it used to now thst I use sonar. It's pretty random what the defaults are on pc bootup now. Once I start the sonar app and click the mixer tab if I don't have the windows sound list open then it immediately sets the default audio out to be the sonar gaming column virtual cable when it ought to be the default steelseries headphones output device.

Also it sets the default mic to be the steelseries headset mic even though I want it to be crisp pro which has my sm7b as the source in it.

Please remove the setting that automatically sets the default mic and speaker out. It's super annoying that it happens and especially that it sets it to the game channel and not the default headphones.

After fixing that it would be nice if you could in sonar set what device you want to be the default so people with nice mics can set the mic or krisp/nvidia broadcast to be the default mic and the correct headphones out to be the default out. I'd it worked that way it would be nice that the first time you go to the mixer tab after booting up your pc it automatically fixes the default audio devices in windows 11. As is the app adds an annoyance that builds up resentment every time I start it. Sonar could be a great app everyone should use if you fix some of these bugs and add a couple more features like this.

The 2nd bug is with the virtual surround sound in sonar. I have the arctis nova pro. When I turn on the surround sound in the gaming channel and click the test button where the voice says this is the front left, front right,etc all the sounds are screwed up. When the voice says front left you hear it in the front right and vise versa. And yes my headphones are not backwards. Either the order that they say the words was messed up and the test is faulty because of it or the surround config is completely junk and broken with the left and rights being wrong.. if the headphones were backwards then the front right voice should be in my rear left but it's not its in the front left When they say front right..
Please check if the test is broken or if the entire virtual sound configuration are bugged. It was like this before I reinstalled my win 11 os and after reinstalling it this past weekend. So my pc/install isn't bugged.

yeah happened to me too forgot how i fixed it though but im pretty sure i unplugged the usb and put it back in also force close sonar then reselect the headset for the sonars

What's ur favorite for listening to music. I always use the Genshin Impact one for my Arena 7 I think it sounds the best. I turn the bass down a little tho.

I also made this one it sounds good in general to me. I don't know fk all about eqs but I looked this up online.

I did not take the Arena 9 because too expensive and I don't have enough room on my desk and I heard not everything supports it.

hello, i recently got a headset, to use for my discord chat only, as i have a 2400 watt sound system for my audio, iv implemented this headset for only discord chat, now my issue is my stream does not hear them anymore, and only i can,how can i make it go to stream and my headset, i using a dual pc set up

i used to use an aux cable mic only to my controller, it worked fine, then i added my headset, lost all stream chat

SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.

You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.

If you use voice chats in the browser, then most likely it is the browser that automatically adjusts the microphone volume. I had the same problem with Google Chrome. There is a flag available under chrome://flags/, which specifically addresses the cause of this issue. Visit chrome://flags/ in your address bar, then search for "Allow WebRTC to adjust the input volume", and set it to "Disabled". That solved the problem for me

Please anyone here , I know there is a pinned comment and before reading this , I already gone threw those steps instinctively and overcome the not loading issue with Win11.24h2 . But i have found yet another issue, once you have Sonar reinstalled and seemingly working , the virtual drivers are not switching when you load a game , or listen to music it just stay on the windows default , in order to use a preset you will need to manually go into Window sound settings select the virtual driver as default and that will allow sonar to then use the preset selected within Sonar. Any thoughts or solutions for this ? #WinBrokeSonar!

How can I prevent sonar from automatically changing the recording and playback device every time when starting windows, or the application?

I use other programs and they don't work properly when this switch occurs. I tried to disable the exclusive control priority of all audio devices but it didn't work.

Sonar keeps setting its own devices as default even though it has disabled, apparently when the program is not running, its drivers disappear, it's as if they were set and reset every time the program is started.
