your chatmix is set all the way to game, make sure your chatmix is in the center
Lago the 🐐
wdym
one of the wheels on your headset is the chatmix wheel.
why isnt my headset connecting to the sonar?
nvm
When I use the Arctic Nova Pro Wireless wireless, I keep hearing a chitchat and the microphone sounds like a machine. What should I do?
Why can't update the Arctic Nova Pro Wireless wireless.
when clicking update did nothing.
Anyone else having issues with their Nova Pro Wireless headsets after the latest Windows update?
Hello, is there a way I can tone down the resourses sonar is taking? absolutely ridiculous taking a third of my cpu for a volume manager lol
I have to reinstall gg like monthly. Every other patch breaks something
I have never had the issue before but after the most recent updates sonar will not work but, if sonar is not connected and I just use "Headphones (2- Arctis Nova Pro Wireless)" there is a lot of audio leak + distortion
I might try and do a re-install though
Sonar running a steady 1k+ memory usage, anyone knows why...
never realized the sheer amount of resourses sonar uses, this is insane.
Whats even causing it to take SO much? I really dont understand
An audio mixer shouldnt take 5%, let alone a third of a ryzen 7 3800x
seems to only be using so much when I'm playing a game, very odd
Mine is running at a steady 1k+ memory usage (7.1%)
it doesn't affect me or my performance in anyway, because I god a beast of a PC, but... it's still quite a lot.
chitchat from where? someone around you? maybe it is sidetone then.
try disabling clearcast for chat and mic. also try disabling moments.
guys, for some reason, my sonar doesn't auto connect or set my arctis headphone when I plug it or turn my headphone on. I have to manual it connect it on Sonar, it's getting kinda annoying
Hi can someone give me settings steelseries sonar so that people in the background cannot be heard
try clearcast
okay
This just started happening to me today as well, not sure what is wrong.
Sonar is broken since the last update ?
settings seams to be ok in sonar but I hear nothing in my headset. I must set it without sonar to work...and I don't want to I love sonar ❤️ you guys have the same problem ?
@velvet walrus
How did I disable so my mic doesn't mess up every time I restart my pc
Cause I can't hear anything again
So, why does the "Smart Volume" not really work.. it's suppose to not allow any sound to go above a certain point, but it definitely doesn't do that... it does something to the sound, but not that.
Settings > Backup Device Switch
SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar when the current device turns off, or becomes unavailable. For example, Sonar can detect when a Nova headset is disabled, and automatically switch your Sonar output to your speakers.
This functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.
You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.
The issue still persists. After restarting the pc, Sonar doesn't seem to recognize that my headset is turned off and that it should switch to the next available/active device instead. I have to turn on and off again my headset for Backup Device Switch to work as intended. So disabling "Link all output channels" in the settings of Backup Device Switch didn't really help.
Ah and it can be that turning on and off the headset sometimes isn't sufficient enough. If this is happens then start playing an audio or video file for a sec while headset is turned on, then turn off the headset and Backup Device Switch should work again, but this is just a workaround solution. I still hope the devs try to find out the cause and fix the issue asap.
link all output channels means just that you don't need to setup each channel separately.
you can disable switch on reboot if the priority list doesn't work.
can anyone explain to my why every time i start my pc i have to open steelseries ggand go into sonaar and set my head set as the sound when its set in my system as the default? like is this is getting really stupid
Still no fix then...everytime PC is switched on the sound goes through my switched off headphones. So have to turn them on and off...to get my sound back to my speakers. Pretty annoying ..even that small update didnt do anything.
of course not. 60.1.0 only fixed error reporting. but there was some feedback in a user ticket that they are working on it.
The problem is that GG/Sonar doesn't recognize anymore that my headset is turned off when I start or reboot my pc. This issue didn't occur before the last update.
As far as I understand this is a known issue https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/1bx8y4h/comment/kymkvkg/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
I can't hear anything in my headset
What do I change
@velvet walrus can you help me pls
@wild hazel
I just had this problem. I restarted my PC. Then I held the button down on the dongle til it was rapidly blinking and then held the power on my headset til it was also rapidly blinking. Once it stopped I pushed the bluetooth button and it reconnected.
Do you know what I should do?
My headphones wont start
They don't turn any color when I held press the power button
Yo, why do i have to select the right out putdevice every time I reboot?
sup
I have a question
how can I make it have a dynamic output of aux
It is quite obnoxious one has to switch between headphones and bluetooth speaker manually

ok
bro someone please
Did they run out of battery 🤣
theres no volume coming from my headphones. worked perfectly fine a few hours ago, now nothing. wont connect
Try replugging them in and out
steelseries is by far the worst company for headsets, even worse than corsair
done that
restarted my pc over and over again for the last hour tryna fix it
What headphones btw
arctis 9
yeah well never ever ever buy another headset from steelseries
Mebe
Try windows audio volume
Or did u accidentally scroll the volume dile of headset down completely
nope
Just buy there wired ones
no just avoid them completely
ive had loads of different headsets overtime and these ones are just tacky, and plastic, sound like a tin can anyway
Just like everything in the industry rn
for some reason my speakers are taking priority for sonar and not the nova pro wireless... anyone know why and could help>?

There
You can literally ban or blacklist any other devices except what steel series headset ur using
Also how old are they
Thank you that worked! is that a new update as of let? Was working yestursday lol
New update as of what?
steelseries app
i never had this issue before where it would favor other audo device than the headset till today
Yea
Just note that peripheral software updates is just like games. All new updates adds new bugs and nasties
Make sense! Thanks again!
how?
I just changed the out put to speakers and then back @inner quail
Dude
I think sonar is streaming
EW FUCK MEE6
anyways sonar is streaming spotify onto my microphone
ye discord keeps stopping my playback
that's for mods I guess
...annoying crap feature from discord ong
Crazy dude
It's to late in the night for me to understand the tomfoolery thats going on here
no
just change the mic to different mic
And reselect back to you arctis 7 or just power off and back on headset'
Where
I can hear audio
but my mic aint working
In sonar😭
Bro
gimee five minutes
okk
^^
Because sonar is basically an audio mixer and doesn't really require necessary steel series gear to work.
so what?
do I delete it?
Just saying. No
no only air pods
wdym
I dont get what you mean
Like arctis pro
Am I gonna open up my headphones????
what do you mean with this then
bro what
Thats just the pro headphone features
still dont get what you mean
wtf is that
Arctis pro wireless
Then idk man
broooo
Just let it run out of battery
why
When my mic doesn't work I just unplug and plug it back in and it magically works
So its brains can reset and work again
I've tired like almost everything
idk what that is
Like if your tech product breaks give it the place you bought it from and some technicians/ repair ppl take a look at it say if its broken and they can't fix it, they give you a new one
I had a problem once with my earbuds that it didn't connect to my phone and I got it replaced
that'd be hard
Where did you buy em from
bro is steelseries really that ass?
I dunno
I just like the reliability of wired headphones
Yes Ikn wireless is more comfortable and practical
Thats why I love wireless
I hate wired headphones
I bought them from Max Gaming
thats the headset
Oh
ill translate it
so?
Idk
Please ask someone more qualified than me please
I really don't know how to fix it. I'm trying to help based on my own experience off a wired headset
Bro I'm trying but no one is answering
Man
Should I just delete Steelseries GG?
Idk
What else is there to do
Ig if you don't like it
?
I don't.
When my mic aint working
I bought headphones with a mic for a reason
lol
?
I think there was a guy explaining how to fix it

GG be weird sometimes
real
Just note that peripheral software updates are just like games. All new updates adds new bugs and nasties
@here, anyone kn ow how to fix a sonar issue where no audio is playuing to headset, but only while sonar is turned on?
Check the input
how did you fixed it? have fixed your browser sound or fo76 sound? i have same issue on fo76
Like in their but for audio
basically sonar was working last night, booted pc today and now the mixer device is unable to swap between chat and volume, and headphone receives zero input unless i disable sonar
im pretty positive that my cable nor my device randomly quit out, so just wondering if anyone else has seen this before, i am using arctis nova pro wireless. any help is appreciated!
hahaha, jk fellas just fixed it.
solution: settings> backup device switch> excluded other devices so it will not override to those devices anymore. works great now.
So how do you remove an 'app' from the Apps sections in the Sonar mixer?
I can only move them around from one section to the other, not remove them, or return it to standby in the Apps to be routed section.
everytime i start my pc, sonar mixer changes my output and input and i have to manually change it back everytime, it never used to do this, is there a way to just keep it on 1 input/output?
Windows input / output, or the input / output inside Sonar?
well its on sonar gaming or microphone
There is no way to prevent Sonar from changing your Windows default input / output devices on system start. Very frustrating,
If you mean the input/output devices inside sonar, try using the Backup Device Switch
and adjust your device priority list.
i assumed that worked considering the top priority devices were the ones it was switching to, thanks
Glad to help.
hey all, i've got one that may be an easy fix for someone here
each time i boot my PC, all of my mixer options are defaulted back to my monitor rather than my headset (arctis nova pro) i have to launch SS GG and change them to the headset every time.
anyone that knows a fix, please @ me with response. thanks 🙂
i'm currently going to try the device priority/exclusion list to see if that helps
hey gyu i need help
every moment when i restart my computer he don't start in this config
can we please get a 5.1 only mode for sonar? some older, and even new games only propperly support 5.1 output, not 7.1 and the games do not make clear what options to choose in their settings. for instance, games from rockstar games, such as GTA V, and RDR2, both of which sonar has presets for, only have 5.1 surround, however it makes you pick narrow, medium or large, medium, side, or rear speaker configurations for surround, and each option changes the sound positioning in some way. the even stranger thing is that sonar has spatial audio off by default on these presets, but even so the game detects the game output as a surround device and tries to route surround even when set to the headphones option.
secondarily, turning on and off smart volume seems to also have an affect on the spatial audio positioning these games provide. jany idea?
For some reason Sonar had turned on the option to auto switch to other sound sources if the primary one is unavailable, that solved the "no sound on my browser" thing. For Fallout itself, I went into the Volume Mixer for windows and set my headset itself as the default sound for the game specifically, not a Sonar virtual sound channel.
was wondering does anyone know how i can make it so when i clip things my music doesnt play in the clip? if so dm me cheers
#1228813460033241088 message post ded so hopefully i can get some suggestions here
anyone had any issues with their Arctic 7+ auto-shutting off super quickly
made sure the config is set to 90 minutes
hey my actis nova pros where working earlier but now they don't get any sound
like they connect so i think it is sonar

i got a solution for it last night
now they no work

Can i expand the chatmix wheel on the software it is only on Game and chat. But i would like it to be on media to?
unfortunately not but you can setup hotkey shortcuts to change volumes of each channel in settings.
Thank for replay will cheak it out. I just love the steelseries arctis 7 plus it was better then i thought 🙂
the sonar settings keep resetting
is there a way to save the settings so i dont have to change them every time i turn on my pc?
i need some help i have artics 3 and when i speak i hear myself
just like any other program on your computer
Make sure "live mic preview" is off
almost. it is a tiny bit further down. Sidetone.
Yes I noticed after I tested it there lol, but you are 100% right
My guess is the problem is between the latest nvidia driver and Sonar.
It also happens for me when I just restart the app. Virtual devices - Game and Media - switch from headphone to speaker.
Only workaround for me: Deactivate speaker in windows settings.
I straight up have no audio through my headphones and everything is set up correctly
this resets everytime how do i set something for default? also guys jsut a tip turn off noise ai cancelling its horrible i fought with that for a week

im having the same issue and it is really annoying! Is there some sort of solution so i don't have to manually do this ever time?
I would like to know why after the last update every time I restart the PC I have to set my heaset in the mixer because the sonar changes on its own, is there a setting or is there nothing to do?
i can not hear any sound at all anymore if i have any if thre sonar channels selected in my windows settings
thx brooo
I'm trying to setup my GoXLR with Sonar, but I can't quite figure out how.
I want to use the ai noise cancellation for the mic and the EQ settings for games in Sonar, but I still need to control my audio via my GoXLR and I need my mic to have a stream & a normal output.
I use the Alias Pro, the GoXLR, and the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless. Any ideas?
I'm currently not using the Alias Pro XLR device, as I have my mic connected to my GoXLR. However, I can listen to the mic through another GoXLR channel if I need to use the Alias Pro XLR device.
You should be fine to use the Alias Pro mic with the GoXLR like any other XLR mic
Basically you need to do Mic > GoXLR > Sonar > Output
So you tell Sonar to use the GoXLR Chat device as the mic
And in Discord fx you use the Sonar Mic
But I wanted the AI noise cancellation for the stream AND chat. That's what I'm trying to do.
The challenge is that you want to use the AI NC for two different things at the same time and Sonar isn't really made for that
There might be a janky way of fixing it
Lemme try and wrap my head around it
I'm also technically at work :D
...wait i might just be overthinking things
yeah i dont need the ai noise cancellation for the chat
just the stream
i use my sample channel for my stream mic, so I can just use sample as the mic in sonar
how on earth did it take me this long to figure out lol
It can be a lot of fun but also super frustrating 😅
Oh for sure
any suggestions on this?
hi is there a known issue with sonar from like 2-3 days? Every time i run my PC my devices are changed and audio comes from monitor speakers not headset
before it was all good
how to stop it from reset every time?
Im getting the same thing

and im using sonar for a year
but i will check thanks!
oh right didnt see that sorry thanks
hey! i have a headset but i feel like i have wrong equalizer settings for music. can anybody share their settings?
All good :)
Yo, I have surround sound or spatial audio still even though i disabled it.. I'd like to disable it if possible, better yet if possible id like to disable it for a certain game
When i disable it nothing changes..
uh, sonar isn't loading?
steelseries headset? if you have spatial audio already disabled go to Engine > Device Configuration > Audio and disable DTS
I dont have a steelseries headset tho.
then I am not sure what could be wrong if you have spatial audio disabled in sonar
It is disabled in sonar, I dont know what to do with it lol, When i dont use Sonar it doesnt happen
I cant hear anything when I have the steelseries app open but when I close the app my audio works fine. I have the steelseries wireless arctis 1
Seelseries needs to update their documentation:
By connecting a SteelSeries wireless device. It will be moved on top of the list on connection regardless of its previous rank or the state of the devices in the list.```
It says this in the Device Fallback faq. However for the last couple of days my headphones were not automatically switching. I went in and moved my headset to the top and it is working again. This is new as of a couple of days ago. May be your problem @barren stag
Not sure who I can ping about this. Probably no one on a Sunday. But pick it up tomorrow morning. Like a 5 second change.
Hey is there anyway to turn off my gaming for my sonar but keep everything else on because I prefer my normal headset sound but want the noise cancellation for my mic so people don't hear my keyboard
Not currently that I'm aware of but you can suggest it in #1070392859125104660
Ok thanks
yw :)
Has anyone else had problems where after turning on your headset, your mic input automatically switches to your headset mic, even when its one of the excluded devices in backup switch?
Its happened to me every single time I turn on the headset for the past like two weeks
My Arctis Nova Pro Wireless mute dosen't work in games it works fine on discord but when i mute myself in a game people can still hear me. Any fixes?
why is sonar not loading? i opened GG but sonar screen infinitely loads and i need to access my sonar settings
I have advice for steele users dont use there software it is trash
it fights with windows tomuch i think
Seems like the fallback feature is completely broken now as it doesn't switch to the next active device even after shortly turning on and off my headset. How can this be?
HY someone send me the bnest mic seetting pls

HY someone send me the best mic seetting pls
my doesnt working on nova 3

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:
-
Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output
-
Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.
If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.
everytime i start computer the sonar deafults to "realtek audio" instead of my arctis 7+ how do i change that? this is only recent as ive had the headphone for a little over a year now, the only i can thiink thats changed since then is either a sonar update or driver updates
nevermind i saw the solution a little before my message, thanks!
Same with my arctis nova pro
@light loom the solution was here
Thanks
what is the best Media equalizer settings to feel the bass coming from the headset instead of hearing the bass
The fallback feature stopped working recently. Not sure if it was a recent windows update or what, but there have been quite a few posts in here talking about that. I have to open sonar and manually change devices whenever I switch even though fallback devices have been configured and worked forever.
Can anyone tell me why my audio Isn't working? It was working fine earlier but all of a sudden stopped working.
where are you trying to make audio work? listening to game sound on your headset?
On my headset yeah arctis nova pro wireless
your game channel is currently set to Digital Audio in Sonar
What should it be?
I’ve tried changing it to a few different things but it still doesn’t work that’s the default it’s set to at the moment
Arctis nova pro wireless
are you connected via bluetooth or base station?
yes
Still doesn't work
what is chatmix on your base station set to?
50/50
are game and chat the same devices on sonar?
Yes
weird. I haven't seen chatmix greyed out in sonar like this with both channels being the same devices.
had the same issues a bit earlier, nothing worked looked on sonar and sound was registered. I found that on each channel wrong output or input device was selected
rechecking and selecting helped
How have you got it setup at the moment?
click on the game channel cog and make sure level is set to 100%
It is yeah
like this but each time i disconnect my device it auto selects other devices but it does not put my arctics pro back when i connect
i also have nvidea hdmi channels of my monitor and it always selects that
That’s how I have it yeah what do you have set for your windows?
try changing your backup device switch priority list. #sonar message
That’s exact how I have it weird
Every time there's a GG update it goes bonkers for me. Messes with settings and my chat mix. And *** forbid if my headphones aren't connected when turning on some kind of audio..
thanks looking into right now, priority is indeed wrong
same took me a few reboots aswell to get it right
Reboots? Damn.. I just want the drivers-only option back
On my dock it’s saying it’s picking up audio now could it be a windows problem?
can you control your dock with the wheel on your headset?
Yeah
My physical chat mix on my Arctis 7 goes inverted from time to time.
How do I adjust Discords chatmix
what did you select as source in your dock?
It’s the correct source yeah
I just changed it from speed to range on the dock and now it’s working wtf 🤣
That’s so weird thanks for the help though
does it stop working again when you set it back to speed?
No it’s all good now 🤣
what do you mean by Discords chatmix?
whatever bro but ty
sm1 help me i hv arctis nova 1 n every1 is complaining abt my echo
hi all, anybody have any ideas on why my sonar is resetting back to my monitor for my output devices for the mixer (game, chat, etc) but keeps the microphone input? have to change it every time i boot up my PC... 🙂
only started happening in the last week to 10 days, been using these for 1+ years no issues (at least related to this!)
this may help
it stops your devices from switching when it doesnt see your deafault one
(i may be wrong but it seems like it should work)
incredible mate, was all enabled, must of happened last time i updated it. Thank you 😄
@oblique wharf could u help meee
no problem (its worth testing it though because it may not be a permanent fix)
sure whats the problem
i hv arctis nova 1 n every1 is complaining abt my echo
on discord?
i hv it on
do u have noise supression enabled on discord?
and do you use speakers for your output / something that your microphone will pick up?
okay
when you play fortnite do you have your ingame mic enabled
wym
it will play your discord mic and your fornite mic at the same time making an echo
it doeesnt matter
(they can hear your talking twice)
are your sure its you
100%
normally echoes arnt audible to yourself
unless your have it enabled on your headset
everytime some1 joins they ask whats wrong with my mic
oh.
anyone know if it's possible to not get distortion with gain on? I got the Nova pro wireless
yh
this isnt makeing alot of sense
yyh
what input is your headset plugged into
oh okay
yh loll
im not sure what the problem cuold be
is your mic quality good?
idk
try listen to yourself in discord
how loud are your headphones??
how do i tell
by wearing them
wdym?
i think its a cable headset
yh its wired
oh cable headset ok
try it
I seriously hate GG. I'm gonna look for another brand of headphones.
i usse 2nd
n whilst listening i was typing n i could hear my keys thru my headphonees
jack
then the seconds is right
its like 1 into 2
yh but how do i fix echo
is it with adapter?
the one that like turns into 2?
yes. is that an adapter or does it go right into your headphones
and both are plugged in right
addapter
yh
do you have this echo issue only with sonar?
I don't give vc support
oh ok its js for the mic test
is their a way to get just one sonar option? im honestly about to just sells this piece of crap because not only are there 8 different options. every so often the software decides to magically destroy itself and mess up some settings so now i hear youtube and discord notifications through my speaker and then i hear game audio and my friends voices thru my headset or something gets messed up with the audio. this sh!t is asss
if you want just one option then turn off sonar and just use the headset output in windows
For anyone having this stutter issues on games or 3d apps. I found out the issue was Glasswire (or any networking app logging, monitoring the traffic connection from GG). I stop the service i no longer have this micro stutters issue. You could whitelist the apps or game probably better to stop this altogether.
possible solution is turning off automatic device switch (settings | backup device switch | top button)
anyone know why it keeps reseting these i change it everytime i launch my pc its so annoying
basically i wasnt wearing my headset for a bit and was using speakers, now i cant get audio to come back out of my headset, all i did was change the game audio to speakers but when i set it back to my headset it dosnt work any idea why ?
Shortcuts to Switch Audio Devices or shortcuts for easy change apps device.
I have the same issue
just turned this off, hope that fixes it
anyone know how to stop system sounds from always going to max volume at system restart?
I recently have been having an issue where Sonar has no audio when streaming mode is off, but when i turn it back on, its fine. Is there any way to fix this?
check your outputs in sonar? streamer mode has different inputs/outputs than the normal mode so it's possible that one isn't set correctly
thx king, worked like a charm!
why didnt i think of that...
is it possible to assign a keyboard shortcut that changes the audio playback device to a specific device?
if not i would love if this feature could be included
arctis nova 7 is not turining on how do i fix this
this steel series app is so bad
lol like its insane
they messed up everything with there update everyone is having the same issue
its making my controller mic the main output and the same with my monitor even when im excluding it
can we get sonar to mobile?
guys why every time i restart my pc i found the headset that i chose for each one audio in the sonar panel (GAME.CHAT MEDIA) changed
When I start my PC, Steelseries GG doesn't open and doesn't want to open, only way for me to open it is by manually run as administrator every time I start my PC, anyone know a fix?
Hey, since update everytime i start the pc or do the oled maintance every 4h the sound settings in sonar changes to the loudspeaker of the monitor.
Someone know a solution to it?
Same here
Hope it gets fixed
getting the same thing. okay so I thought I was just having technical issues myself and something happened but yeah it keeps going to my speakers instead.
actually I found out what it is and I read above with some saying to disable it. I kinda think this is pretty cool and i'll totally use this
basically you can disable this which will fix the issue. but if you want to use the priority list you can organize it so you can use it incase your headset disconnects and you can hear via the speaker for example. however for me I might disable thing now that I see this because when I turn on my pc I don't turn on my headset all the time and i manually activate my speakers in windows. so if I have my headset off then the sonar will go to the speaker setting and i'll have to adjust that myself everytime anyways.
can someone pin this at least? it seems like everyone is asking about this and maybe this can help for people that are new like me that join becasue of this. cause obviously this is kinda huge issue for everyone with sonar
I'll try this ty! Yes i joined because of the sonar bug haha.
I always turn the headset off while i turn my pc off but it does the switch only if i turn my monitor on/off.
Kinda weird. Trying it with your settings now and if it's still buggy i use the headphones without the sonar engine
this has been happening to everyone. I came here for the same reason until I literally went to settings lol
I turn off my headset before or after. but the audio settings in sonar shouldn't change dynamically. this priority thing is new
fallback has been in GG for months now. the latest update just made changes to it's logic.
it started affecting me ever since. I don't even remember updating this software honestly
GG has an autoupdater
So... I started to test Sonar yesterday, and I'm banging my head against a problem I don't know where it comes from:
I want for Sonar to always use the 'SteelSeries Sonar - Media' virtual audio device, but no matter what I do I don't know why in the hell it keeps automatically switching to 'SteelSeries Sonar - Gaming'... and I didn't even launched one single game, all I did was using normal Windows apps like Chrome, PotPlayer, ...
Where/How can I change that? I just want to use the config I set in 'Media' for everything, period. I don't want it to be changing back to anything else...
Game is the default audio output. The only workaround I see is to manually set outputs in the volume mixer
Why is there a forced 'default' you cannot change? 🤦🏻
how can I manually set outputs in the volume mixer to stop that behavior?
in windows?
go to your volume settings/sound settings and make sure you make the audio source default
also what are you using Media for?
But... that's what I mean... I'm already doing that, constantly... and Sonar keeps changing it back to 'Gaming' 🤦🏻
I'm using it more for Youtube and movies/shows watching than gaming
okay but what sound source do you use in media?
the thing is it shouldn't be 'auto'-doing anything against the user choices
are you able to go to this window?
What do you mean by 'source'?
so in game you can choose what audio source you want to play
I use chat to listen to discord voice chat
but to me game and media is the same thing
I don't even think I can actually make youtube play audio while i'm listening to games in the game audio
nvm
you can totally hear things with volume mixer. but my question is. why use media? what do audio source do you have in game and media respectively?
like do you have a speaker for media channel?
and your game headset for game?
no
it is the same source
headphones
then it doesn't matter
just stick with sonar gaming
I keep setting 'Media' as the Default... and Sonar keeps changing it back to 'Gaming'...
sonar is just connecting channels to other audio sources
again. can you show me this?
so why do you want ot use Media channel?
Why?
WHY?!
that doesn't make sense
?
game and media is literally just an audio channel that is relaying the sounce source that is chosen below it
they each have their equalizer. you probably have an equalizer on in game that sounds different
they are the same thing no matter what as long as you mimic equalizer
I never use media. ever
Let me recheck that...
as for why it's auto changing the default device i'll look into it
But then, what is the point of having a 'Media' apart from 'Gaming' at all??
as I am testing it right now. it's to probably manually use audio sources for somethign else. for example right now i have change my audio source in media to my speakers
I can listen to my game in my headset while my speaker is playing music
but I wouldn't actually do this. I'd just take my headset off and listen with the speakers as normal
in reality i'd just change to my speaker sound settings and leave my sonar settings alone
@upper coral does he have this on?
Is there any way to copy one EQ config and paste it onto another?
his issue is windows related
to copy the exact same EQ from Media to Gaming
Oh okay mb
what does your eq look like in media?
modified one of the presets
okay so what you have to do is save a backup first. make a duplicate
you'll have to manually get the numbers
like this
you can copy those numbers
The numbers for each point...
yop
having to do that is painfully slow
if anything. to make it easier. just open up a notepad
copy the numbers and paste it on that notpad one by one. it can be done super fast
make sure you tap it once. don't hold it
nvm you can't copy. itj ust empties until you leave it alone. you'll have to type it yourself which to me wouldn't be hard. i've done stuff like this before
make sure to get this info as well
and anything else you have on
a Copy/Paste function would be great
also, the app could do with a zoom or dpi setting
I'm at 2160p with a 250% zoom and the UI exceeds the available space
Use the lower part. high dpi scaling overide and it'll scale I believe on system or system enhanced. it'll make it bigger
there is? that's what the share button is... you can also see all the EQs other people exported in #1209138827571232819
looks like it only imports to the channel it was made. womp womp
I don't think that's a bug, I think the lowest you can set the frequency is 20hz. for example if you try 19 then it just goes to 20
My bad... it says 2.00kHz, but the input is not an edit, but a total new in Hz, so it needs to be 2000 instead of 2.0
Hi here, everything works just perfectly until suddenly it wont. for some reason my Gaming/Media/... won't work and the sound comes out from my speakers. Only when moving to "Headphones" I can hear from the headphones. Any idea?
Sounds like you have Sonar set to output sound to your speakers?
Check the output selection within Sonar
Youre tha best! thx ❤️
Happy to help
:D
my sonar is loading for ever and never activates any help? 😦
tried launching it in admin and everything
nothing works
To get it work I had to manually disable the gpu outputs on windows sound settings. Not the ideal thing for me but short term fix
nevermind
you can go into the settings in GG and turn off the fallback options
got it to work by uninstalling and reinstalling
SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar when the current device turns off, or becomes unavailable. For example, Sonar can detect when a Nova headset is disabled, and automatically switch your Sonar output to your speakers.
This functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.
You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.
They are where?
How can I make my system sounds quieter
every time i lower it in mixer it resetsa at some point back to 100%
hello I need help so I am streaming Dead By Daylight when I saw my vod on twitch the audio is like doubled for some reason I need help on how to only detect the in game audio for one output ig if you want to see the vod let me know like I don't know why my personal and streaming audio is playing together ): I really need help it's like echoing a lot in the stream ):
I'm often in two or more different voice chat tools. If talk breaks out in multiple, a view days ago sonar starts to turn thinks quiet. but never the one i want and sometime a mix or all. its unusable this way.
In general the feature is nice, but i need more options to set it up, especially which tool has prio and needs to stay loud.
this!~
Hi, I don't speak English well. There was an update to SS GG. Now, every time you start the computer, playback via Arctis PRO Wireless chat is selected in the Game tab, instead of Arctis PRO Wireless Game. You have to constantly switch. How can I fix this?
Always selected at startup. Need autoselect at start "Arctis Pro Wireless Game"

I fixed this. If anyone has the same problem, then you need to make Game higher than Chat in setings
why do i have to change these every time i start or restart my pc? only since the update
look at the messages just before yours
thanks m8, not blind at all being the next message up, now turned off auto changing lol
Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my browser sound. If I watch Youtube for example and have my browser set to the media tab, the sound is a lot lower than if I set it to default for example. I feel like this lower sound issue has appeared in the last 2 days or so. For the life in me I can't understand it
SOS
I just tryed everything but the mic of my ARCTIS 7P+ don't back to works...
🤬 😪
Small request can we have the sonar hot key volume step be lower than 5 per press
i have it hotkeyed to a streamdeck plus with the knobs and it basically moves up and down by intervals of 5
thats too much
shouldnt there be more options here?
depends on what you have connected but AFAIK it looks correct to me. it should just reflect the same list of audio devices in windows, minus the sonar outputs (since you can't set sonar to output to itself)
cause all of these options have the same output option
and setting it to something different in something like discord gives me no audio
I keep having this issue where none of the sound works on my PC and none of the apps show up under each section. It'll randomly happen and then I restart my pc a bunch, switch usb ports for my stuff, and re-install it'll start working. But it'll happen again the next day. Does anyone know what might be happening?
Sometimes the app will show up here, but I wont be able to move it anywhere and I can't hear it
oh and it'll also show this red even tho my PC sees the device is plugged in and operational. Does this with the headset and mic
hey folks - is enabling Dolby Atmos within windows settings and also enabling spacial sound within Sonar duplicative? not sure i'm understanding how to use both... or maybe i should be picking one or the other.
@velvet walrusin case you missed
You should disable any spatial settings from windows sound settings and exclusively use sonar spatial feature only.
#supprt My spatial surrounding is not working I have tried almost everything my headset it the default on everything and it says spatial surrounding is on in the SteelSeries Sonar
#official-support rt My spatial surrounding is not working I have tried almost everything my headset it the default on everything and it says spatial surrounding is on in the SteelSeries Sonar
Interesting… so in other words they do the same thing and steelseries’ solution is better? Do you know why?
Thx for the reply
in my steel series mixer i can change my game chanel to my headset or my speakers, but whenever i have it on speakers it keeps default changing to headset, is there a way to keep the default to a certain output?
is anyones sonar not loading"?
I cant hear audio out of the "game" mix but i can hear audio out of every other mix, does anyone have a fix? My headphones are already selected on game mix
I am having trouble with my sound system defaulting to steelseries audio when I want it to stay at speakers. How do I keep this from happening? It happens when I open the app
why does this keep happening when i have my playback and recording set my snoar chat and gaming as the defaults?
from the youtube videos i see and from my previous time on this (before the whole issue with everything resetting a few days ago) im supposed to have a lot of playback options
but now most of them are gone from sonar despite still showing up in other places like discord
its crazy how bad they fucked this up
we are all having the same issue
so now i have to go to steel series instead of settings to switch my audio
shits so lame lol
dont even know what words to google for this issue
with GG 60.0 they removed the difference between Arctis Chat and Arctis Game playback devices in Sonar. Arctis 7+ can do both now. However outside of Sonar you still have devices for each channel so you can still route apps to your channels.
ok so mostly a UI change and not functional change at least
yes
check your backup device switch
SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar when the current device turns off, or becomes unavailable. For example, Sonar can detect when a Nova headset is disabled, and automatically switch your Sonar output to your speakers.

will take a bit getting used to. Feel like there's some things that the previous way lets you do but the current way doesnt or will be more difficult to do 🤔
for example?
click on the cog and check that level is at 100%. also make sure that the chatmix is in the middle in Sonar and your transmitter/base station
i cant think of any off the top of my head rn. Just feels that way cause it's a bit more abstracted and giving less fine control? Maybe like in the case if i want to use the chat output settings when playing a video on media output or something
I don't understand. The channels are still there.
like before i would go here and just switch Sonar media to Sona chat
but now those are gone it's a bit less intuitive on how i would switch all media channels to use chat channel outputs
and personally i felt when i first used it each of those outptus having a dedicated one made it intuitve to use and gave the feeling "wow they optimized chat to have audio output tailored for chatting and media with output tailored for media" but now it's kinda feeling "ok they all give the same output so all will have the same settings"
switching channels works still the same as before. In Sonar you either drag the labels at the bottom to the new channel and if that doesn't work, (i.e. Discord), you go to the app you want to route and select Sonar Chat or Sonar Media.
some apps like discord you have to swich in the app, others like chrome you can drag and drop. This makes it a bit of a hassle if you have a bunch of apps that's some combination of both. Eg if you have them all in media then you will drag some to chat (where you will also have some others) then change the others in their app settings. Later when you want to revert you will now have to try remember which ones were originally in chat and which ones originally in media
if you could just switch the playback to the same as media you can still have them separated but still using the media settings
I see what you mean now. Yes it would be helpful to give them unique identifiers instead of multiple discord or chrome labels.
Hi, my problem is that Sonar changes the input source every time I restart my PC. Does anyone else have this problem?
check your priority list. if it doen't help disable switch on reboot. #sonar message
Ok, nice thanks so much....
i mean i quite like the tabs, just the minor issue of some being drag and drop and others manually change. If i want to make everything to be the same setting then i would rather change the category instead of changing over
basically i wasnt wearing my headset for a bit and was using speakers, now i cant get audio to come back out of my headset, all i did was change the game audio to speakers but when i set it back to my headset it dosnt work any idea why ?
My microphone is not working
It clearly says realtek on the mic part lmao
yea
then ur mic is not detected
no
there is no microphone there as you can see
realtek (not mic) and steelseries sonar (not mic)
Do you have a chance to write in Turkish?
okey
Mikrofon Realtrek high definition audio NOT MICROPHONE NO SOUND IT IS BAD
Steelseries Sonar Microphone NOT MICROPHONE IS VIRTUAL CABLE
What micro you have?
I don't know
you dont know?
Can I open a screen for you?
I ask one more question
yes
no
no desktop
not virtual audio device
It would be better if I open a screen for you
why does every time i turn on my pc, i find that my sonar audio all changed... it never did this till recently
we love sonar after some windows update
Got a question.. I have speaker and the arctis nova pro wireless connected to my pc and in sonar i can select the playback device for each of the output channels. My issue is that when i turn the headphones off it selects the speakers as playback output (which is fine) but doesnt remember to ever switch back to the headphones: not when i turn them back on or when they are on and i restart the Steelseries GG Software.
I have to manually change it ever time. Is there a way to fix the automatic selection or at least turn it off? Any help is greatly appreciated 🙏
(Windows 11 23H2, GG version 60.1.0)
@eternal plover @tame mica check your backup device switch priority list. #sonar message
thanks! that worked
thank you, thats much better
Sonar with windows 11
for some reason, my audio device in sonar keeps switching to monitor audio. its done it about 6 times now, twice this morning and 4 times yesterday
it does it randomly, however once it did it when i connected my controller
its been happening since i installed the latest nvidia driver
its quite annoying and embarassing
sorry if this is the wrong place to ask about thsi btw.
i use a steelseries arctis 5
How do I make it so people can't hear themselves when I'm streaming my desktop with audio on discord?
They can also hear me twice as well
try this: #1220086204104704180 message
or this: #1224899766178287686 message
I'm on Win11, it doesn't seem to work
What about the system audio option in Discord?
I want people to be able to hear my desktop. The issue is that with Sonar active, they can now hear themselves and also me twice
And there is no volume mixer on windows 11?
Muting the second one does nothing for anyone, the top one mutes it for everyone including me
@ornate heath how about this? #1220086204104704180 message
yeah, i've never tested it myself but i think that moving discord to output to "Game" would likely fix it?
I think that's why the bug is happening in the first place: discord tries to remove it's sound output from whatever output the screen capture is capturing... but since discord is on a different output, it doesn't know how to look for itself there and remove itself from a secondary output.
compared to if you don't use Sonar, then everything is outputting on just one output, so discord knows how to remove itself from the audio capture
alternatively: you can use streamer mode and have your desktop audio get mixed into your mic output. the upside to this is that you can leave discord outputting to the chat device. the downside is that everyone would hear whatever you're streaming, even if they're not watching the video.
So setting it as Game did fix them hearing themselves, and they can still hear everything else which is good. The only problem left is that they can still hear me twice, once over discord and once in the stream
How can we suggest/contribute a game preset (Enlisted to be specific)?
If you made your own you can share it in #1209138827571232819 and if you want to request an official one you can post in #1070392859125104660
Feature request it is. Thanks!
anyone had an issue where the sound is onlu coming out of the right ear on the arctis pro wireless headset?
anyone have issue with mic? i can tap on mic and it picks up but if i try to talk my mic doesnt pic up anything
does your mic glow red? or have you checked your windows input?
Does anybody know why the discord app and discord mic why it dosent get moved to the channels. i try to move them but they just dissaper when i try to move them game or mic channel
no, ive checked everything and its correct. if i tap on mic it picks it up a input but as soon as i try to speak my mic wont pick my voice up
are you checking it on discord or on the sonar?
ive checked it on discord test and it picks it up but calls it doesnt
- Discord input Device 2. Windows Input Device 3. Update audio deive 4. Turn off Advanced Voice activity on discord (this have worked for some )
Hey everyone, I just bought the Steelseries Nova pro wireless for my Xbox. I want to get the most out of my headset, is there a way to get sonar on my Xbox to update and edit my EQ? And if there’s no what will I need to do in order to get the preset EQ for Xbox or be able to edit / update my EQ
Sonar is Windows 10 and newer only unfortunately
I understand that part, but how do I activate the preset EQ settings for console on my gameDAC? I only have Flat, bass boost, focus, and smiley.
has anyone had an issue with discord audio from friends not being recorded in their game clips?
You might need to update the headset to get them
Hi guys, every time I switch my PC off and on again, my headset doesnt work once turned on because sonar automatically changes the playback channel to something other than my steelseries headset. Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening?
seems like a common bug https://discord.com/channels/299040363123965952/1225914989160824934
@peak wraith but you can still try to put all you devices other than your headset on the excluded list for the backup device switch maybe that helps, also you can try deactivating the backup device switch. But nothing of those helped for me.. :C
bro the what the- is up with my rival 3 ????
its not properly registering
i bought it at end of dec 2023
i am going crazy since a few days now. Every time i reboot my pc, sonar loses all settings and needs to be reconfigured.
It used to only happen on windows/driver updates, which is frustrating enough but now it's several times per day.
Does anyone know of a fix?
does it actually loose settings or is it just resetting to other playback devices?
i don't see a functional difference
it configures to a sound device i never use
loosing settings would mean for example the equalizer settings you have saved are gone.
and is not the default in windows
take a look at backup device switch settings

ah i never touch the equalizer. i just want my sound channels to stay the way they are between reboot. these:
if this doesn't help disable the switch on reboot option.
will try this. thank you!
looks like that did it! thank you!
can't fathom why this would be a default setting, but i'm very happy it's fixed.
I have no idea why but whenever I turn on my headset, it doesnt get set in the Mixer part in the sonar, I have to manually chose my headset to use it everytime

Hey guys, anyone/any streamer.
with the latest update is anyone having a problem with Nvidia broadcast over righting your sonar settings?
sorry noobb question here, ever since the last update for sonar. My audio device won't switch to speakers.
It still thinks that my wireless novas is still turned on thus taking priority.
Before it wasn't like that regardless of order in the list, it will override which ever is priority.
Here is my settings attached. Do I need to change something here to make it work like before?
Automatic Back Up Device Switch : On
Automatic Back Up Switch at boot/reboot : On
Steelseries Wireless Headset Options ->
Consider my device as unavailable if it is plugged in but not powered on : On
List
Headphones (off)
Speakers
Thank you.
i'm having a problem with my sonar at the moment
it keep loading and doesn't stop
it was working before but now it keep doing it
is there a way to fix it?
Hello. Are there any plans to fix it so that Sonar does not auto swap your audio output to a new device that connects? I have a NVIDIA graphics card and the driver includes audio devices for HDMI outputs. Every time my monitor goes to sleep and wakes up, Sonar auto defaults all my channels outputs to the GPU Audio Driver instead of my Arctis Nova Pro. This is SUPER annoying and leads to me just leaving sonar off. I have tried using the Backup device switch in Sonar settings to exclude the monitors, but it doesn't fix this issue.
Hello guys, I just wanna ask if we can control volume of each individual app using Sonar? I mean when I have multiple apps in "Games" section, can I adjust the volume of each one seperately?
did you ever get a solution for this?
No
@hoary oak the solution that worked for me was uninstalling and reinstalling GG manually. I wish I would have made a backup of %appdata%\steelseries-gg-client though cause all my settings where gone afterwards.
I tried that and it still wouldn’t work even after working with steel series they had me just go through and uninstall other programs/games off my computer I just gave up
Not in sonar but you can still use Windows volume mixer for that. I personally just use a different channel when I want to accomplish that. Usually it’s not more than 4 apps I need to do that with.
Do you use an application firewall?
Nope as of right now the computer died so hopefully when I go in and rebuild the problem will be solved
Having an issue where my Stream output isn't picking anything up outside of GG, anyone else?
Ty daddy
Hi, I'm having a weird issue I didn't seem to have before, where audio would have something similar to noise cancellation when I have sonar on, is there a fix/setting for this?
(sound is just clearer when i have it off)
Chat Clearcast is enabled by default since GG 60.0. you can disable it in the chat tab.
Steelseries GG Sonar is defaulting my audio to Monitor's audio everytime i boot up my PC..
it started happening after i installed a new monitor through Display Port.
help pliz :(
Alright, thanks
I'll try it out later today
Check your backup device switch priority list. If it doesn’t help you can also disable the switch on reboot option.

yea thanks just saw this in settings.. lemme see if it works
nice it worked

Is there any way for me to stop listening to what comes out of my own microphone? I don't know why it's happening but, if I so much 'touch' the mic or cough, I can listen to it through the headset..
even the noise of the fan can be heard through it
ah, silly me, it's 'mic sidetone'

Anybody knows why steelseries messes up with my Sound setting from PC itself? Every time I turn on my PC the Sound is gone
read from here #sonar message
ok does nothing for me
I'm in the same boat as you Cay
@lapis mural sounds exactly like my issue #sonar message
device priority fixed my issue
i excluded all those devices
except the headphone
In some cases the excluded devices list unfortunately doesn't work. I've noticed that with monitors and controllers. Not all monitors seem to be affected though. Also Nvidia updates seem to mess with the priority list. I blame the Nvidia audio driver updates. I hope they l'll fix that.
We found a bug - this happens if the excluded device was previously top of the list we are working on a fix
so the workaround would be moving it down in the priority list and then excluding it?
just tested it with my controller. yes that fixes it. thanks!
❤️
guys i need help
when i open my sonar it always sets up my monitor but i want to set up my head phone
hello
i want realtek audio but its not set sup automatic in past is set up it self
i also need assistance with the mic settings to best suit my razer kraken v3 x wired headset
Is it possible that the gaming audio channel only serves as routed manually as media and others? I despair that it should always be default in windows when I only have interest in the spatial audio and equalizer to work with games, I know I can assign it manually but I would like to disable the default every time I turn on my pc

I live what you say
yes bro, I like sonar but I don't understand why gaming can't work like all the other channels and should be default, even if you change the default device in windows sonar still works, that's why I don't find sense that it should always be default.
go to audio settings in windows 10/11 and there should be an option to select which audio devices apps use
im using windows 11 should look something like this
just press the down arrow on each app and select the desired audio device
but that's what I mean, I would like Gaming to serve as Media, Aux, Chat, that I choose myself in which apps to use, not to be the default in windows every time I turn on my computer.
My question is if there is a way to prevent it from defaulting, I know that manually just change the default device when turning on the pc but I would like to see if there is a way either inside or outside the app to solve that
heres an example of what i mean
ya the windows setting will make sure what ever application uses u set in output or imput divice option as shown but i still make sure i set the audio playback device in the ingame settings as well
Is there a download for windows 11
yes im running windows 11 and sonar works great
its the same way as if ur downloading for windows 10
Well done on the Device Priority List update, very needed EA ❤️
@violet grail scam
Ty for the ping
I had the exact same thing start happening to me just a few days ago. I didn't get a new monitor or anything like you're describing-- nothing about my setup has changed. However for some reason every time I restart my PC, all of my sonar channels (game, chat, media, & aux) are defaulting to my monitor instead of my steelseries headset
Not even just on restart. I've noticed that even if my PC goes to sleep, if it is asleep for long enough, all my devices change to my monitor instead of my headphones. Super annoying.
Check your backup device switch priority list. It is also possible to disable switching on reboot.
Love randomly waking up in the middle of the night to the sound of random pings/notifications going off in my office because steelseries suddenly decides it wants to output through my monitor
Saw your response above and just disabled the setting. Just popping in to note I am also experiencing this. wondering if something changed in the last update
It is really annoying. Used sonar for about a year now and never had this happen or even knew this setting existed
I expect that will fix the problem
