Ok so, i had to come here after i found my ingame audio stopped working after installing new realtek hd audio drivers after having previous issues with my mic picking up my headset audio. Now it has opened an entirely new can of worms.

GG Sonar doesn't seem to wanna put game audio through my headphones even with the settings being the exact same as been before. Having so many issue's relating to Steelseries GG and it's other applications lately it's nerve-wracking.

Sonar is somehow cutting out Discord from any sound. The Chat won't allow sound to be made and I cannot hear notifications.

You can, not through Sonar but in the Engine, just find the exe path from task manager when running and add it to a config you created

This might be a dumb question, and I've looked elsewhere for the answer, but I guess I'm not wording it right for Google.
In the Mixer, why does each channel show a green, yellow, and red section to the volume for each channel? Do I need to make sure to adjust the source volume so the Mixer channel volume peaks at the top of the green section in an ideal situation?
Does anyone have an ELI5 answer for this to explain to a newbie?

From what I did to fix it was go into task manager and kill every instance of GG and then restart it. If that doesn’t work, then you’re gonna have to re-install.

Hi All! having a bit of a wierd issue, firs a bit of background. I have the arktis nova pro 7 headset, and I use a creative soundblaster x4 external sound card. In my steel series GG, sonar settings I have the backup device setup so when my headset is not on, audio will come out of my soundblaster x4. this was working yesterday. This morning when I got on my computer to start working, when turning on my nova pro7 headset, nothing switched. Is there something I can do to check what is going on? One thing you should know I am blind, and I use a screen reader to access my computer. Thanks for any help.

If you're adding VADs directly to OBS then you're bypassing the streamer mode settings. you need to make sure only the Stream VAD is active in OBS and turn off all the rest.

Hey, I need some help with something I've noticed recently.
So, it seems like there's an issue with the audio settings in Sonar. Normally, when I listen to music, podcasts, or YouTube videos, the sound comes from both my left and right ears as expected. But somehow, when I switch to chat audio, it gets mixed up. I hear the sound mainly in one ear, then occasionally in the other. It's odd because I thought chat audio was for non-gaming activities, while game audio is for when you're playing a game, right? That's where you hear if there is someone on your right, left, under or over you.

To fix it, I've set the game audio as the default output and only use chat audio when I'm browsing the web or using Discord. But I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to be, or if there's actually a problem with Sonar.

After 60.0 update "Backup device switch" does not work on first launch. I have Arctis Nova 7 headset and speakers. Usually my headset is powered off when I turn on my PC. Every time when SteelSeries GG is launched it thinks that headset is available when its not. So I have to manually change every output in Sonar to my speakers. Or I have to turn the headset on and off for "Backup device switch" to understand that the headset is not available . There were no such problems with version 59.0. Is it possible to rollback?

If you see an endless Sonar loading circle in GG try closing all steelseries tasks or reboot. If that doesn’t help uninstall and reinstall it manually. It will delete your sonar config though.

"Compressor" can boost your mic volume. and check your "AI Noise Cancellation" settings, maybe it's the problem. I personally don't get any problems with "AI Noise Cancellation", so its turned on

I really want to like the headset and the software but I think im going to end up returning them just for something a bit more simpler and easier to use I really wanted to like this and was even dealing with the fact of having to control audio from the sonar console and losing the keyboard control but after the most recent update that now keeps defaulting the audio to the powered off headset i think im just going to go back and get an upgrade set of Astros I really wanted to like this head set because of the DAC, software, and multiple batteries but this is just too much hassle to deal with, also to note im using the artic nova pro wireless....

go to each tab there and move headphones to the top

my monitor was on the top at first

this tab is in gg settings

you can also try to press Windows + R, type mmsys.cpl and press enter and then right click and Disable your monitor in the playback tab. this won't turn off your monitor, it will just disable the sound

unless you use discord for voice chat only, the chat channel is not the best option for discord anyway since it has a lower frequency than the other channels which will affect watching media and game streams on discord.

when the output device is set to Sonar Gaming, the sound will come from what ever device is set in Sonar as playback device of the Game channel. In my case it is my headset. If you want it to be your speakers, set the Game channel to your speakers in Sonar.

They keep making changes to how backup devices in Sonar but nothing ever seems to actually change other than the settings interface itself. Excluding devices seems to mean absolutely nothing at all. I've excluded the BenQ monitor for Game, Chat, Media and Aux and have left my Z35 monitor as a possible backup device, but that means nothing. Every single day when I turn my machine on or take it out of sleep mode, all mizer options are set to the excluded monitor. Both monitors are turned on before I turn the machine on or take it out of sleep mode.

I have turned all of the automatic switching options in settings now. I just keep turning it back on when they release a new version that supposedly fixes the problem to see if it works. Hoping that everytime I don't choose to use my headset, I can just choose to leave it turned off and use the monitor. DOesn't matter what I do, though. When listening to anything at full volume and ANC is on I'm hearing random crackle and pop sounds. as much as I want to enjoy Sonar, it locks my system up. Maybe there's a conflict with something else, but when Sonar is turned on, the system soft locks up every few days or less, necessitating a reboot (either by Ctrl+Alt+Delete and restart - 50/50 on whether it actually restarts or just hangs - or pressing the computer's physical restart button).

Without Sonar on, everything is very stable and can go weeks without needing a reboot (usually only with windows update).

Hey guys! I have a quick question. Everytime my Headphones turn off, it will auto switch to my Arena 9 speakers which is fine. However, when I turn on my headphones, it doesnt automatically switch back to the headphens. Is there a way to fix this? I made the switch from SteelSeries 7 to 7+, downloaded Sonar and am kiiinda happy with it.
HOWEVER Microphone ain't working as I please.

My friends hear their own voice echoing through my headset.
I enabled Clearcast AI Noise Cancellation AND Krisp on Discord, but to no success.

All I am able to do is to turn their voices to such a low setting, that I have issues hearing them.

Any recommended settings? Anyone else experiencing this issue? Is it probably a 7+ thing? Thanks in advance ❤️

For some reasons the backup device switch doesn't work correctly anymore since last update. Either it doesn't switch between whitelisted devices at all or it doesn't switch back after turning on or off my Nova 7X. It must be an issue with the latest update as the feature worked as intended before and I also can (or at least should be able to) exclude an issue with the headset as it's a new replacement.

You can lower the level of your headphone in the game settings for example and it will keep you room to manage the volume with a better range in mixer page. Note: the level will applied in any outputs (game, chat, media, aux)

Since v60 update "Backup device switch" is bugged with Nova Wireless headsets. I have Arctis Nova 7 headset and speakers. Usually my headset is powered off when I turn on my PC. Every time when SteelSeries GG is launched it thinks that headset is available when its not. So I have to manually change every output in Sonar to my speakers. Or I have to turn the headset on and off for "Backup device switch" to understand that the headset is not available . There were no such problems with version 59.

Here is my "Backup device switch" settings (Screenshot 1). After turning on and off the headset, a status icon appears next to the Arctis Nova 7 device (Screenshot 2). Only when status icon is present "Backup device switch" function works fine.

SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar when the current device turns off, or becomes unavailable. For example, Sonar can detect when a Nova headset is disabled, and automatically switch your Sonar output to your speakers.

This functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.

You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.

set sonar to output to your headphones, in your screenshot it says it's set to output to your ASUS monitor

there should be an option under each VAD, just click on the asus text and switch it

is there a way to have an app play from both game and chat audio? The only reason I need this is because I sometimes clip my games with nvidia shadowplay but it can only take from one audio source at once, either chat or game

i hear discord very distorsioned, only on the chat channel, any idea on what's happening? I noticed that the chat channel is 48 kHz. Idk if tha'ts a point

it's normal that it's a lower hz

try checking the chat channel settings and turn off noise cancelling
