When it says "it needs to be changed in app" it means you need to go into the specific app settings and change the audio output. So for Discord, you'd need to go into Discord's settings (Voice & Video) and set Discord to output to Sonar - Chat

Yes I think I figured it out. Let me show you incase you run into any other people who have the problem. 1st: Make sure You have latest version of Steel Series GG software. 2nd: Make sure you have the latest engine update for your specific product (in my case steel series pro + Game DAC). 3rd: You have to go to the drop down video in the pictured video and change it to Game DAC Game NOT Game DAC Chat.

I've got a similar issue. Mine keeps defaulting to another device on every boot, and if I stop using audio for a few minutes. My speakers run through the headset channel, so swapping to the powered-down Quest is useless. Probably related to the backup device changes they're playing with, though I shut it off, and it's still doing that.

Both your guys issue sounds like Windows automatically defaulting playback devices, not necessarily a Steelseries issue

there's some fallback settings in Sonar (under backup device switch) but if you have that all turned off and Sonar is still switching/has no devices on boot, then that might indicate that your PC/Windows is "turning off" the USB device to save power. Usually going into your power settings to turn off USB selective suspend and turning off fast startup helps prevent this.

I’m having an issue with my headset in the app

I haven’t used them since yesterday but if I use steelseries gg and use the virtual devices it created, my audio ends up coming out my laptop speakers instead of my arctis 7+

I then just closed the entire application and just switched my output to the actual headset instead of the virtual ones made by sonar

Sucks that it’s bugging out but at least it works somewhat for now. I’ll try reinstalling it tomorrow and seeing if it fixes my issue

That is an interesting question. I don't know how Discord implemented their screen sharing session. I think with an input devies "Stream" things should work. Apart from that I could imagine that Discord is listening on your default operating system output, so you should make sure that this is configured the right way

The reinstall didn’t fix it but I managed to figure it out another way

Windows for some reason disabled the virtual devices for audio output after an update but once I went into sound settings I saw this and re enabled them all and they work fine

I recently picked up this legion slim 5 and I’ve just been making sure it’s up to date and I don’t have any missing software updates or any drivers

I would suggest to use the sidetone option your headset has but you can do it through Sonar in streaming mode

My sonar started working again at random last night, also I've been using steelseries for over 2 years but just recently I bought some arctis pros and using sonar for the first time, this is the only time I've had problems with the steelseries software, and it's definetly not because I don't know what I'm doing with equalizers, I'm used to using equalizers and created my own equalizer software for my razer krakens before I got the arctis pros. From articles I read last night it seems that most of the people having the same issue seems to be around the time of a windows update, so I'm sure it's got something to do with the app needing to go through a update or something to work with your sound drivers.

Also to anyone who thinks going cheap is better, don't! these arctis pros have changed my life when it comes to gaming, being able to hear clear as day sound queues (as a siege and cs player) and I used to have hyperx and again razer krakens, and even with me tampering with the bass on those it still sounded shotty. I do believe they are a great choice for gaming and I believe if the software is working 100% of the time, it could run as one of the best gaming headsets. There is a vast majority that don't run into sonar issues, but there are a hefty 1000 or so that do

I think there's something going on with version 58 of the Steelseries software, because I noticed this too after the update to version 58. I've also had the computer soft lock quite often, necessitating a reboot, with Sonar active, especially after version 58 of the software. disabling sonar completely has seemingly resolved the softlocks, but the sound, of course, isn't as rich without it.

Im using the Arctis Pro Wireless Headset,

Hi, new here. How do I avoid Sonar messing up my audio? Multiple times a week audio just goes away when switching the source via the little speaker icon in the bottom right on Windows. Sonar does some cool stuff but this happens constantly, it is infuriating and so far only a restart fixes which cannot be the solution. Currently editing and switched from speakers to headset and no sound. Also, the Sonar options via the little speaker are also gone which happens on occasion.

GG is running in background I assume. I don't have it intentionally open. Now Davinci Resolve has audio but YouTube has none. It is just such a strange set of issues that I did not ever have until trying Sonar. I have heard other gamers have issues with getting muted (ie headsets dont work) after swapping from speakers in game.

looking for a plug and play setting for a brand new set of Arctic Pros WIreless that i just picked up for a great deal. I'm coming from the Astro A50. I loved the headset, but it was not comfortable. Thats why i picked this up. I've played multiple games with the Arctic Pros and many things are not sounding great. Voice chat seems to work well, but the quality and other sounds seemed muffled or really distored. Are there any presets that are great for gaming or something i can do to reset the Sonar to not pick up on my settings. I had a buddy who told me to go into Sonar and he told me what to click. I dont know how to reset it, but now in WIndow Settings there are 20 different selections on what to pick for audio options and I have no clue what to choose. It used to show just the headset alone. I also cant hear my voice through the mic anymore. I feel like im screaming in normal conversations while the A50s provided very small audio of my voice to prevent this. Thank you for the help. I love the headset, but i just dont know how to set it up properly I guess. I have Steel Series products for my mouse and keyboard for years.

How to turn off microphone for discord using SONAR with stream mode enabled? I just want to talk to the stream, turning off the mic for discord. Wasn't this configuration supposed to work? With stream mode off, the microphone turns off without any problems.

Hm, so your microfone will be routed to Sonar Stream IF it is active. Your discord input device will determine which one you'll use there. If you use the physical mic, it won't be affected by muting it in Sonar thus leaving the Discord channel open while closing it to the stream. If you set your Sonar mic device it will follow the mute, thus muting both channels. So since you want to mute yourself in Discord, I guess, the only way to do that is to mute yourself within Discord

Can you elaborate what you mean by "with stream mode off" - so you have stream mode off but you are still streaming?

I am currently on the SteelSeries Arctic Nova Pro headset, and i have ran into an issue.

Discord chat audio, is really low - I have to boost people to 200% and have my discord output to 200%. Which seems to be a bit wild, just for being able to hear my friends.

I have checked the chatmix on the DAC, and it's dead center so i don't lose game audio, and should be able to hear my friends just fine doing competetive gaming.

Any tips and or help to fix this issue, so i can hear my friends without 200% boosting every audio sound would be greatly appreciated.

ps: I have checked all windows settings and it's all turned up aswell.

We need your attention on sonar. Like for real there is not a single day without problems.

When i start my PC i need to manually restart sonar 3 times before it even starts up.
Then i need to manually change the devices cause they constantly change around even tho they didnt 3 weeks ago and nothing changed.
Then theres alot of crashes where GG just stops working.

When i turn off my headset (Nova Pro) the devices change to nothing. So i AGAIN need to change them back..

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Does anyone have a guide on how to manually add programs to the Sonar drag/drop? For whatever reason, Sonar isn't detecting me playing Sniper Elite 5. However, I can hear the game, but I can't get my mic to work in the game. And trying to fix it in Sonar is useless if the app doesn't even show up?

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

Alright, I vaguely figured it out. They are in order of what devices I have manually selected in the mixer. This is not quite the feature I thought it would be. Reconnecting a higher priority device does not cause Sonar to automatically switch back - it only works on disconnecting (except for the wireless headset, but that's not the device I am unplugging all the time).

Suggestion for future updates:
Make it possible to do a general EQ curve for your output sources.
For longer sessions, I like low and High cuts for my Headphones (personal mix), but the Stream mix should not be affected by it.
Also, some headphone might need a special EQ adaptation for the best sound output, which might not sound good on other devices or your Stream.
That's why I would love to have the option for EQ the output sources.

With how I understand Sonar right now, you can EQ the channels (Game, Chat, Media, AUX, Mic) in general which affects the input signal for both of the output sources in the "same way"

I understand there is a streamer mode, but I'm trying to set up my obs manually because I have a pcpanel device, and that's the only way I've found to be able to use it with sonar. However, I cannot seem to be able to link steelseries sonar - chat to obs. I have media and gaming set as my desktop audio, but chat doesn't show up as an aux device. And if I remove media and set chat that way (it does show up) then media doesn't show up as an aux device.

yeah, OBS only allows you to set two outputs as "desktop audio" in the settings, so you'd need to choose which two outputs you want to capture. the rest would need to be added per-scene in OBS as a source.

the other settings (mix/aux) are only for inputs like microphones

yeah, in stream mode, the windows devices get locked to whatever volume they're at so the sonar mixer can handle the volume between stream and personal mix

unfortunately since there's no public API for sonar, there's no integrations with third party hardware like pcpanel or streamdeck, etc

I have an issue with Discord (but not the obvious one). I have Discord's own settings correctly set to output to Sonar's Chat channel, and in voice calls that works great and does what it should.
My issue is other sounds that Discord makes that AREN'T voice chat. Things like notification noises, and audio/video files embedded in text chat, output to my default audio device (which is the Game channel) by default on each boot. When its happening I can drag it to the Chat channel in Sonar and it stays like that and acts like I want until I reboot my PC, where it resets to the default channel.

How can I get the sonar to adjust the headset's equalizer automatically when a particular .exe (game) is in foreground?

It's possible to do this without sonar with the normal SteelSeries Engine equalization profiles, but I can't find a way to do it with sonar active.

The device exlusion list is buggy for me. Occasionally, devices that I excluded reappear in the list, and I have to exclude them again. I think this mostly happens with monitors. Maybe it happens when I update my NVIDIA drivers or something. But it'd be nice if I didn't have to re-exclude devices. It seems I need to re-exclude about once per month.

I just joined this server but maybe I can help lol I have it setup to play soundboard sounds from my stream deck through my microphone, but you can't do it with just sonar i believe. I use Sonar in conjunction with Voice Meeter to split the soundfile to go to my headphones as well as mix with my microphone input. It requires at least one virtual cable, voice meeter came with one but it never sounded good so i bought a license for one but you may be able to find cheap ones

I've been using sonar to use shadowplay properly for clipping with nvidia, to separate discord, spotify, etc while i play games. It worked like a charm until I actually bought a steelseries headset 2 weeks ago, and I just looked back at my clips to realize since I bought the headphones, that only my mic was being recorded the whole time even though I have not changed any setting. I was doing a lot of troubleshooting and looking up guides n such, but nothing is working and Nvidia will just NOT record game audio. I have the gaming as my default audio, and the game I wanna record routed to the Game sonar setting. Im lost, please help.

I don't personally use NVIDIA to record anything. It does sound like the NVIDIA app is using your mic as the default capture method. Are you able to change the source device in shadowplay?

a long shot, but you can adjust the total volume percentage on the settings wheel above the slider for game in sonar, this is independent of the slider.

im having a problem where rocket league wont output audio into sonar but if i cvhange the windows output to the headset it workls perfectly fine any ideas?

and there isnt a way to change the applications output i have to go to the main windows screen and change that

oki for any new commers with the same issue of Sonar just stuck in loading mode, This is what i did to fix it, alot of it was already recommended further up in this section.

1 Close all games
2 Disconnect headphones, (for some reason my fix only works if this is done)
3 Use task manager to completely close out of all steelseries apps
4 Uninstall Steel Series
5 check %appdata% to make sure all files are removed
6 reinstall the program
7 only after its fully installed plug in the headphones.

I have no idea why, but if i left my headphones connected at all during any of that, the program would install but still kept sonar in the loading phase.

I am having an issue where whenever I switch my monitor inputs, Sonar will drop the Arctis Nova Pro Headphones as the playback device, even though there are no other audio devices available (I disabled all audio drivers for my monitors). Requiring me to go in and manually click on each Sonar Channel and re-select the Nova Headphones. I have tried basically ever option in the Backup Device Switch, and even disabled them but it still seems to be happening. Anyone else have a similar issue?

for each app you want in the different categories

most likely you have Sonar Chat as the default system channel

I don't know how it happened, but the headphones were not connected to my computer via the transmitter, so I had to unplug the transmitter and connect it to the computer again.

despite everything, the steelseries application detects my headphones, so it confused me and I thought that the settings had changed

You can't use Sonar on console unfortunately
