That was going to be my next suggestion. If you do reinstall, make sure you share any custom EQ's and save the URL so you don't have to manually set them up again.

If you don't use Prism for anything else, you could delete the process and just use a 3rd party RGB app. I only have a SS headset so I delete Prism so it isn't always running and Sonar still works fine, well as fine as it usually does anyway

So I might be missing something but every time I turn on my computer GG has set my Realtek output as the default for the SteelSeries Game output under Sonar instead of the Arctis Nova 7x. I've looked around in settings but can't find how to change it. Anyone have any idea?

Could other people be using the internet bandwidth? Steam or other service doing updates? I could go on for ages with scenarios, some more info would be helpful

The reality is that it doesn't matter what channel (game, chat, media, aux) you tell a program to use, you can use any program on any channel. Most people don't need to use any channel other than Game, a lot of people will only use Game and Chat. If you have different EQ profiles that you like for regular games or programs, you can set the game to use one of the channels so you don't have to keep swapping the EQ preset. For example, if you played Rainbow 6 every day, you could set it to use the Aux channel and have a preset that makes R6 sound better without needing to manually change anything before you launch the game. Setting programs like Discord to the Chat channel can be good so you can use the ChatMix feature, if your mates are being loud and you need to hear your game, you can turn the chat volume down quickly without Alt+Tabbing. Hope that helps a bit.

You can try to shut down any Steelseries processes in Task Manager and restart GG. If that doesn't work, restart the PC. If it is still playing up after restarting, reinstalling GG is usually the easiest way

If you end up reinstalling, make sure you "share" any custom EQ's and save the URL's so you don't have to manually redo the EQ's

They really need to add this to the website FAQ for Sonar or GG troubleshooting

my laptop has a better cpu but a slightly worse video card, this pc is a ryzen 5 3600 and a rtx 2060 the laptop has a 10th gen i7 and a 1660 ti in it

This is part of what I am not sure of, I don't know if there is are console clients. My Nova Pro Wireless has an eq select option in the DAC so also not sure if that "handled" any EQ when connected to a console.

This may be the wrong channel to ask this, so please let me know if I should post this somewhere else, but has anyone else run into an issue of Sonar no longer working after updating your NVidia GeForce drivers? I am on the latest version of Sonar - 57.0.0. Everything was working fine this morning. I noticed I had a GeForce driver update for 551.61. I installed that, and now Sonar no longer works. I can see that Sonar sees the audio in the mixer as the levels will fluctuate, but nothing comes through to the headset (Arctis Nova Pro - Wired). I tried unplugging the USB, verified the base is set to USB 1 (which is connected to the PC), reset the defaults for Sonar in Windows, rebooted the computer, and nothing works. If I disable Sonar and set windows to use the Arctis Nova Pro as the audio device, then everything works fine. Went to try to install the GeForce driver and there is no rollback option in GeForce Experience or Windows device manager. Just curious if anyone else has encountered this, and if so, how did you resolve it?

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

Engine is used to modify device settings. Generally, any changes made in Engine are saved to the device itself, and can be carried over to other devices such as consoles. It's recommended to check the SteelSeries support pages for more information on what is saved on-board for your particular product.

Sonar is used to enhance your audio on the PC that is currently running it. Changes in Sonar only apply to the machine it's running on and cannot be saved to the headset.

You can use Sonar for any device, it doesn't need to be SteelSeries. As for the best Warzone profile, only you can say what is best for what you want to hear. There are lots in the #1209138827571232819 channel, just search for Warzone.

pretty much everyone, looks like a bug in the recent version. There are a couple of things you can try. You can close all Steelseries processes in Task Manager and restart GG. You can restart your PC. Apparently you can go into setting and disable Sonar and then enable it again but haven't tried that one myself.

If it isn't starting Sonar after a restart, you will likely need to re-install GG

It seems it won't restart if there's a game launched, in my case it was DCS. I'm really regretting spending the money on a headset that needs a buggy app to actually use the functionalities that make it different from other headsets. The old Arctis 5 at least had the chat/game mix in drivers rather than app.

I think the main problem is that the Nvidia program is only recording the audio from the device that you set it to. This would explain why it only records voice when setup like the screenshot above and has no game audio. I don't know about the Nvidia software so not sure if that is fully correct.

If you set Discord to the Sonar Chat, you can use the ChatMix, that allows you to make the chat or game quieter and the opposite louder, great for when you friends are talking too loud and you need to hear footsteps or dialoge

You can adjust the ChatMix by clicking the volume wheel on your headset and then adjust it. Clicking the wheel swaps between adjusting volume and the Chatmix

Yeah, looks like Sonar doesn't do the mic feedback for non USB headsets.

The Master channel in Sonar is basically the main device without Sonar.

Something you can look into is a program called EarTrumpet. It is an audio manager that gives each program a volume slider and allows you to easily assign programs to different output devices.

sonar is designed for "gaming" to be the main audio device. if you're changing it to media you're going to see this error, and it's going to swap back when sonar boots as it goes through it's startup setup.

if your keyboard supports rebinding the wheel on the keyboard, try setting up media volume up/down keybinds in sonar and change the wheel to those bindings. If your keyboard doesn't support it, a program like PowerToys can be used instead. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/powertoys/

the keybind stuff in sonar does support modifier keys, so you can do something like alt + F8. you can also use F13-F24. those are real keys that most programs can recognize but most keyboards don't have, so they're usually safe to use.

Engine is used to modify device settings. Generally, any changes made in Engine are saved to the device itself, and can be carried over to other devices such as consoles. It's recommended to check the SteelSeries support pages for more information on what is saved on-board for your particular product.

Sonar is used to enhance your audio on the PC that is currently running it. Changes in Sonar only apply to the machine it's running on and cannot be saved to the headset.

Only thing I can think of is to uninstall it again and delete the old program data which is in C:\ProgramData\SteelSeries before you install it again. If you wanted to be thorough, you could delete the device from Device Manager in Windows too.

ok, this is a new bug in the latest version that seems to be pretty common. There are a few things that might work. You can close the GG app then open Task Manager and close all the Steelseries processes, there should be 4-6 of them. After that, restart GG and see if it works. Antoher option is just restarting the PC, often helps. If Sonar still doesn't load after a restart, you may need to re-install GG, this often solves it but not always. Hopefully they should fix it very soon as it is happening to a lot of people a lot

I have seen many posts on here saying that running as an admin has fixed various problems but not always. Has it always done it on the new PC or did it possibly start after an update?

You could do a full uninstall of GG and try an older version, or maybe a reinstall fixes it. If you do try an older version, uninstall it by going into the Steelseries main folder (C:\program files\Steelseries\gg and run the uninst.exe file then go to C:\ProgramData and delete the Steelseries folder to get rid of most of the back end stuff. You can also backup any custom EQ profiles by sharing them and recording the URL's in a text doc or something, you can then import them once you do the install again.

This seems to be a common thing with Wireless headsets and Sonar. The problem is that there will always need to have an audio device set for each output, if your headset isn't turned on, Sonar can't set it as the device to use. Now you turn on your headset, but it now has a device selected and doesn't care anymore. The Backup Device Switching that Sonar has added tries to help by detecting the headset and swapping the devices to the headset. There is a priority list that you can set the order of the devices it would select, ie. I have my Headset first, my Speakers second and the rest doesn't matter for me. If the Headset isn't detected, it will change the Sonar outputs to the Speakers, when I turn on my headset it will set them to my headset. I think there are a couple of options for you, enable the Backup device option again and set the device priority to what you want, I think this is the best solution if done correctly. You can turn on the headset before the PC so it doesn't change. You can also try an older version of GG that doesn't have the feature, it looks like the integrated more deeply and turning it off doesn't stop all the relevant changes they made, the older version won't have this, not sure what version would be suitable though.

It is a sound filter that is processed on the audio it receives, I would think that it would be mainly based off stereo input as why would you want to make a surround sound more surround. I could be wrong though. I say try it and see what you like more if you can detect any difference at all that is.

Simply pressing the power off button on the headphones doesn't switch the sound back to the speakers as described in SONAR! I don't understand how to do this, and is it possible for the sound to return to the previous device (speakers) without unplugging? Thank you!

I want that when I disconnect the headphones using the button on them, instead of pulling the receiver out of the USB, the sound automatically switches to the speakers! And the settings in Sonar in the mixer section remain only when the headphones are connected, and when the headphones are disconnected, the settings do not apply to the speakers!

Yeah, I am not sure why it isn't detecting your headset turning off. Maybe try unplugging the USB and deleting the device from Device Manager. It should re-install when you plug it back in, it might refresh it?

If that doesn't work, reinstalling the GG software often fixes random problems. It is annoying but that is PC life.

I've been removing devices, rebooting the PC, uninstalling and reinstalling the GG, rebooting again! And everything remains the same until I unplug the USB antenna or manually switch to speakers in Windows, nothing happens 😦 It seems like the Artics 7 + wireless combo is not working properly 😦 This issue is really frustrating! Plus, all the settings I make for the headphones in Sonar are also applied to the speakers =((

I've had this happen to me for a long time.
It wasn't every time. It was more like once a week at most.
But these past few days it's been every time I boot up my PC, I have to restart it again to make Sonar load.

I've just decided to run the installer again, and it seems like it fixed it, since it made Sonar load automatically, but I would need more time to see if it actually works in the longer run.
But again, this problem has been around for a while. I find it weird why Steelseries hasn't fixed it yet.

The issue only occurs when the headphones are connected wirelessly. If I connect them via the jack cable, the problem disappears. Can someone help?

Anyone know what could be causing this? It's been happening to me consistently for a few days now. I get this error popup then the sound to my headset cuts out. Sometimes it corrects itself but sometimes I have to exit GG and relaunch it. Whenever it happens, while the sound is still out, the sonar page just infiniloads until it either comes back or I restart the app.

for sonar: it does a lot of audio processing in the app itself, so a mobile app wouldn't really work. the audio would need to go from your console > headset > phone > sonar > headset, which would introduce a nasty delay.

Hey, I want to keep my "Gaming" audio profile only for games, and use the "Aux" profile without any changes to be the default device for most other things on my pc. But when I set Aux to default - the orange bar in sonar tells me to use the default settings and make "Game" the default device. Is it ok if I just ignore that message, or will it cause any issues or perhaps set it up by itself at some point in the future?
