So let's say I give Sonar all the default controls over sound that it's thirsting after ... Is there a quick and easy way within the app to switch between speaker sound and headphones while keeping all the mix rates intact?

Because right now I can just toggle between "Speakers" and "SteelSeries Sonar - Gaming" in Windows Sounds, and I'm not seeing something that easy in Sonar.

In the microphone category at the bottom you can enable both of the noice cancelation settings and turn up impact all the way or to a desired amount and that’ll probably fix it I’d imagine

Is there a way to adjust the master volume when we have our channels split up? I like the current audio mix I have and don't want to have to be in Sonar mixer to adjust only the master level.

I think "Gaming" should be renamed to "Game" by default seeing how the other channel names correlate 1:1 to the channel it relates to.

After updating the software the volume default apps get reset. I had to re-setup my media and chat channel defaults.

The last update 29.2.0 breaks sonar every time you turn off the headphones. all of the playback devices get nuked when the headphones are powered off so everything breaks until you set it manually, or turn the headphones back on, which means speakers plugged into the line out just stop.

I've been able to test Sonar for about 3-4 months and it seems getting worse with the latest updates (especially since the new Media channel came out).
My mates on TS do hear themselves through my mic, no matter how much I decrease the Chat and/or Mic volume but if I set the volume to low then I can't hear them loud and clear enough or they also can't hear me. The AI features seem to have become worse, too, as they sometimes now are also cutting off my mates voices (what didn't happen before).
I really like the Arctis 7+ as it's really comfortable but having to set up the Sonar software every time because of drastic changes with every new update makes the overall great experience more and more null

Hi everyone. I am just getting around to trying out the new MEDIA feature in Sonar. In my opinion, the setup process is not as straightforward and intuitive as it should be (especially if the user already had other virtual audio devices like Nvidia Broadcast and Razer THX software as examples).

After having set everything up to can control individual audio streams, I came across a problem that goes directly against quality of life functionality:

Now that I set up the new Media Stream to, for example, play YouTube audio from my browser, I am no longer able to adjust said audio levels with the keyboard hotkeys.

Instead of being able to control the Master Volume, device hotkeys are only changing the Game volume, and it is useless when I am not playing a game (which is 90% of the time).

Any suggestions on how I can correct this would be greatly appreciated.

Heya Folks! I'm having some trouble with the Arctis Nova Pro's, and in particular Sonar. Randomly, when I boot up my PC, Sonar will "lose" the target device for the chat mixer, meaning, the chat EQ will not recognize my headset (this does not happen on a different computer). I have to go through uninstalling, unplugging, changing audio settings, and have even replaced the headset at Bestbuy. I am legitimately at the end of things that I personally know to check and fix this quite annoying issue. Any ideas?

basically background is for the softer sounds that could probably be picked up by a microphone, such as fans blowing air and general noise around a room.

impact is for harsher tones like clicking, smacking, banging and such, i personally use impact the most as i tend to beat my desk to the music i play in rhythm games and dont want people hearing that.

does that paint a better picture?

backgrounds a more complicated one since it focuses on softer sounds so it isnt always the bset in my experience, i just perfer to use a noise gate at that point

Hey, I got the headset now too. Basically very satisfied. I only have the problem that the chat mix doesn't really want to work for me or I'm doing something wrong. Had the arctis 7 before, it worked with chat/game without any problems. Now I have selected the virtual game sound card as the standard and now I expected that if I turn the controller more to chat in chatmix, the game will generally be quieter, like it was with the arctis 7. Or is that only if something is sent on the chat source? Can someone help me? Thank you Sorry for my bad English

The default at the top is what happens in general, I put there Music.
Then below you configure per game, for example you can set game exe to "Overwatch" and set the sonar config to "Overwatch 2"
Now when you play ow your sonar will change to Overwatch 2 config and when not (game not in focus) it will return back to Music or what you set as default

@weary forgetry doing this then retry : uninstall to do this goto search type control panel enter control panel top right if it says catagory drop it down and select large icons this will show the proper control panel apps then scroll to find and click "programs and features" then in the window scroll until you find steelseries and highlight and click uninstall then click back until your in control panel again and click "explorer file and folder options" then select "show hidden files, folders and drives" click apply and ok close goto c drive and delete steelseries from "programfiles" and "programdat" unplug your device reboot and before you plug back into a different port install gg login to your account plug your device back in and activate sonar ....... it should then work properly

as of right now you either have to manually apply for each game, or use the older feature-less slider version which only gives you presets, and EQ settings 32 - 16k (+/- 10)

HELP: Bought new SteelSeries mouse, updated the steelseries.gg and now sonar completely destroyed my audio. The only working audio output is headset earphone and if I switch to speakers, it does not work anymore (the sound bar shows input but there is no sound in my headset). COD does not work, Spotify does not work, nothing works anymore. If I disable Sonar and select my gamedac speakers as default device, my audio dies completely. If anyone has any tips on how to solve this, I would greatly appreciate it!!

How do I permanently disable sonar from my audio devices? Every time I restart, it resets back to my default device and clogs up my available audio devices (which I like to keep clean and minimal)

Seems to be a lot of issues with latest beta software, Sonar device fallback doesn't work anymore, Engine tab doesnt show battery status and actually shows not connected even though the headset and DAC are working, and worst of all after a couple of hours of play you get a lot of crackling and then Sonar/Engine/GG crashes. I am guessing that a patch maybe some time what with xmas and all, they pushed 3 updates in a very short time period just before xmas. maybe would have been better to wait till the new year guys.

Hi all, recently i reset my my base station for my nova pro wireless to fix an issue with chatmix. Now however, everytime i turn my headset off, sonar disconnects from the default computer audio and nothing plays from the speaker. I have had the same issue for 2 weeks now.

I actually JUST restarted my system (Flow X13), a full restart, not just shut down) while the base was still plugged in and low nad behold its workign again to change to the chat mix. I use Hibernate a lot, and im starting to think that is causing issues between GG and the Base. Will need to test later and see.

Sonar keeps using the Game output as the default one. When I switch to the Sonar Media output as the default one in my Sound settings, Sonar doesn't like it and asks me to set the default back to Game. Why is that? Not to mention, when I switch to the Media one and keep it that way, Sonar will eventually switch it back to Game... Is this intentional or a bug?

id say its cuz sonar expects that media will be set inside background apps (spotify, etc.), so as a result assumes that game will be used for all remaining apps and thus will make game be the default audio device. id guess theres probably some code inside sonar that is checking for which device is made the default audio device and if it isn't game then it will automatically set it back to game. There isn't an option in sonar itself to have media be the default so thats the only thing i can assume is going on inside sonar

Santa brought me an arctis nova7 for work.
I was counting on the chatmix function to switch between video tutorials and discord chat.

I manage to have the sound of discord with sonar in the chat section.
But I never hear anything in the "game" part. Yet the bar indicates that it captures the sound of youtube.

Need Help regarding sonar. The sonar software sets the sonar gaming profile as my default output. So whenever I have play any media through Google Chrome (which is added to the media route) I cannot control its volume buy my keyboard. I have to change the output either to sonar media or default speaker output (which also gives a prompt in gg software to set sonar as my default output device) which is automatically reset on my next restart and sonar gaming becoming my automatic default output device. This is so annoying. I want to control master volume from my keyboard, whether I'm playing or watching videos while sonar detecting smartly in the background what I'm actually doing. Sonar ChatMix can only be controlled through the wheel on the Arctis 7+ headset.
Probably you acquired a Arctis 7p+ headset so Chatmix is controlled ONLY via the Chatmix slider in Sonar.

i have the steelseries arctis nova 7 for a while now, been using Sonar recently without problems so far. Everything working fine as intended, the only thing i noticed: when i choose the sonar microphone in discord for example, my voice comes through like before, but it's delayed. like a second delayed. The same delay i'm noticing in sonar at the volume slider. Is that normal? there a way to reduce the delay?
My voice comes through completly without any problems, even stuff like the clearcast thing works. just noticeable delayed on the other end...

hey @worn stump, also, but mainly if i'm in a call or in a voice chat. With the microphone directly in discord input, i see my profile pic light up the moment i speak. When i choose sonar microphone in discord input (and ofc in sonar the nova 7 microphone set up), i see my profile pic light up too, but later. especially in games i clearly notice responses from my mates later than usually. Combined with an active webcam, friends confirmed that when i'm talking the webcam is not in sync. switching back to directly the microphone in discord input, it's working as it should be..

I am really struggling with Sonar. I've got the Nova Pro Wireless headset, and it's working great, but switching inputs when my headset is turned off is sketchy at best.

My speakers are USB, which may or may not be a factor? (Logitech G560s)

2 problems:

1. when I turn my headset off, sonar usually switches back to the speakers, but not always... and often when my computer goes to sleep, I'll wake it back up only to have the input still be on the Arctis Nova Pros - even though they're turned off.

2. controlling volume between the two inputs is frustrating. The speakers are incredibly loud at 100%, so I've set them to 40% in Sonar so I'm not blasted into space when the input switches -- but the windows volume up/down keys control Sonar's "Game" volume value... meaning that when I turn my speakers up/down to a comfortable volume, I have to re-adjust every time I switch to the headphones (which are set at 100%, and I control via the dock/DAC/whatever the appropriate term is)

Is this just a downside to the product? Or am I doing something wrong? I find having to continuously reset my volumes every time I change inputs to be a pretty frequent annoyance.

Game would be set as your PCs default output for everything. Then in Windows Sound Settings you'd assign specific programs to each Sonar audio output. So you'd set Discord to use the Chat output and Sonar mic input, assign Spotify to the Media output and then your game would already be coming through the Sonar Game output since that's the system wide default

Unfortunately, Sonar doesn't yet support per-program auto switching for the EQ profiles but hopefully that feature will be coming soon

The Arctis 1 wired uses a 3.5mm cable to plug into the headphone jack of your laptop so it'll show up as the Realtek HD Audio output, not as "Arcits 1"

Sadly, you cannot. Also, it doesn't remember previous volume of different devices - so if you don't set your speakers to say a low % value, then when you turn off your headset with game at 100%, your speakers will blast your neighbors out of bed. 😦 be careful.

I emailed support about this and just got a generic "we're working on it but there's no timeline" sort of response.

I have a problem with Sonar. I have an Arctis pro, and when I restart it, or if it goes out of base range, the Sonar settings all reset to the default headset.

I'm aware that 90% of the time this is pretty good, but I'm using an intermediate app which then sends the signal back to the headphones, and it shorts it out every time.

Does anyone know how I could disable this feature, and have the devices used remain the ones I manually set ?

What's the headset you are using?

if it's a wireless steelseries device (Nova or Arctis 7+), try disabling the fallback system in the settings

one other option would be to disable the headset microphone using windows settings

Hello all... I'm just wondering, why is Sonar on my Arctis Nova Pro Wireless chatmix not working with Discord VC chat? It is registering VC as game audio so I cannot change the mix? the device fallback is for nova headsets only, not the older ones like APW. however the base station on the APW has a line out for exactly this purpose

so you should just be able to plug in the speakers to the line out and then the base station will handle redirecting the audio

There really needs to be an option to uninstall sonar completely. I've tested multiple times that If I play something and enable sonar with options and game sound changes. But then if I disable sonar the game sound will still be different than without sonar until computer is rebooted.

So sonar leaves somethings lingering until reboot.

And as with someone with many other virtual audio devices I need to be able to remove sonar devices from device list even if they are disabled.

In Windows? That's normal when using Sonar. The audio chain is like this: Windows > Sonar > GameDAC. That's also why you set it to the GameDAC in Sonar. Does that make sense?

yes it's normal. Basically Sonar becomes your default in windows then (in sonar) you decide what you want to use for game, chat, media - like this you can apply different setting for each use. Ex. you don't wanna have noise canceling on your game, or Spatial Audio on your chat. Like this every sound gets its own tuning for the best overall quality and experience

If it's like the Arctis 7, it's because you have either your Windows output sound to "Chat" instaed of "Game" or you have the output on discord set to the wrong one of those two

Hmm it's probably the way the soundbar's bluetooth is setup with its firmware. To take over as the default device each time it's booted up and paired. There are some devices and programs that (annoyingly) like to do that

Question...I just picked up the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless headset and am having some trouble with Sonar resetting back to "game" audio every time my PC restarts. I have a custom EQ set on the "media" section in the software, but even when I manually change the default device in Windows settings, it still always reverts back to Game audio.

Is there any way to fix that?

I don't think the media channel is designed for that. If you keep setting the media channel to default and it keeps going back theres most likely no current way of permanently setting it bc sonar is probably defaulting the game channel automatically

if its only chrome and some music app you can just manually route it

I think I may have found a way fiddling with the settings here. I use the Media audio for all my desktop audio other than when I'm running a game on my PC...so anything like Spotify, YouTube, VLC, etc

Hey thanks for your response. I actually got it to work. The port that i plugged my dongle into just stopped working. So i plugged the dongle into my side port on my laptop and now everything works just fine. I should not of had to do that but it works now.

I would say use basic settings and then just use the sonar app, you've got a lot of profiles for games on there as well as music or movies, and can still just experiment to make your own eq's, by just messing around to find out what does what, and what you like

I do not recommand using the headset using bluetooth pairing, but 2.4Ghz instead. When being on the mixer panel, microphone might be activated (peak meter) and bad things may happen (it's a known issue :/ )

you can set the volume level for each channel in the sonar software and the chat mix wheel (right ear rolling button) will lower the volume of the gaming or chat channel depending on which direction you spin it

It's really useful when you put discord in chat and your game in game, you'll be able to "offset" volume without having to go to any settings.

You can choose whatever mic you want, and whatever output you want, and they don't have to belong to the same headset

Bought my Nova Pro Wireless headset a few days ago, have used it with no issues until recently. Seem to be a lot of people having the same issue where Sonar/SteelseriesGG app crashes randomly and needs to be manually closed from device manager before it can be rebooted. My issue is somewhat able to be reproduced though and I've already followed all of the standard steps (reinstalling, updating, etc.) I only experience the issue when playing CS:GO (or other games,) in a non-native/stretched resolution on my monitor. If I play any game in the native resolution I have no issues. HWmonitor shows that the device itself and the driver aren't failing, I'm not having the other known issue where steelseriesGG is crashing upon creating a specific file, and the crashes only seem to happen if I alt-tab out of game (though not when I alt-tab, sometime after, this could be a correlation/causation observation and not relevant though.) I'm pretty out of ideas other than installing a 3rd party EQ and rolling back to a SteelseriesGG version without Sonar installed. Are there any other more current solutions I haven't found?

Thank you very much for the reply. I have that on high and have played around with all the setting to try and make it louder. I have put in a ticket and done all kinds of research to find out in the last update they lowered the sidetone on how loud it can go. I have a hearing issue and have done a lot of research on trying to find the loudest sidetone headsets and bought these and they worked great until the update. Because of my hearing issue and if I don't have a loud sidetone I talk very loud and not only bothers people I'm playing with but upsets the house hold. Trying to find the right person at the company to try and have an option to make the sidetone louder. Thanks
