Right I’m really sick of my headset suddenly not playing any sound. Ever since Sonar was launched my Arctis pro Gamedac periodically just stops working. Messing with settings trying to get everything matching seems to sporadically work and other times nothing. Anyone know how to stop this happening. No sound on windows or sonar app when testing. Why can’t you just create something that works without the headaches. Arrrrgghhhhh

I'm trying out Sonar and was wondering if anyone knows why I wouldn't be seeing visual feedback on the meter when I talk into my microphone? Sonar is picking it up, I'm able to EQ it, noise gate, record, etc. But there is just no visual feedback on the mixer page.

I had to finally disable Sonar all together and finally found another solution for all my audio needs.

So i just got the Arctis 7+ headset and tried to set up SONAR. I use a Blue Yeti Mic and if i choose that as my microphone, it no longer will work in discord either was the actual hardware mic or if i choose the Virtual SONAR device microphone. Has anyone gotten this type of setup to work?

Turn on the Clearcast AI noise cancellation If you're using sonar

Don't plug your PC directly into the wall, awful advice. Plugging any sensitive electronic device (Your PC, phone, anything you paid ALL that money for) directly into the wall should be avoided. Using a UPS or surge protector shouldn't cause any issue with your headset as long as you plug the headset directly to your PC, don't use a USB hub.

Why would they release a 24 bit / 96k Hz headset, pushing it with out with sonar and then lock important features behind this awful software locked at 16 bit / 42k Hz?

It's so bugged in its current state and the end result, if you can get everything working correctly along with chat mix, is such a let down (*besides the Clearcast noise cancellation, it's good) If they'd make the chat mix function compatible outside of sonar, which is possible since the Arctis Pros could, I highly doubt anyone would continue using it. Which is a shame, since SS Engine/GG isn't that bad aside from a lack of anything being developed for it and being pretty much abandoned.

*Well, when not using Sonar, my mic doesn't actually make all the static noise as it does when using it. So it may only be fixing an issue that it causes itself, but it does something, I guess.

Every clip I recorded using sonar has wayyyyyyyyyyy too low in game audio recorded (like 1%/barely audible) I had to boost the audio several times in audition before editing them (which also added sh!t amount of noise to it)

i have this with discord, when i using software defined audio devices. The fix on my side is to set the audiodg.exe process in taskmanager to only one cpu and set the priority to high.

I am using a powershellscript for that, as it needs to be redone on every reboot:

Hi all, on SONAR for Arctis Nova Pro: I can't turn on Windows Sonic for headphones. Is Spatial audio still coming through if it's not showing as enabled in my windows sound settings? Is there anything I need to change such as my default devices?

When I try to turn on that sonic for windows setting, nothing happens, it stays off. With my older Arctis 10 pro, it flicked on no problem. Also, if I don't make steelseries sonar - game my default output, I'm able to turn on sonic. Just not sure if I need to do that.

You shouldn't need to turn on the Windows Sonic if you are using SA on Sonar, it will most likely try to override it.

Windows Sonic is built in and it can be turned on for the "sound" set by it. But the SA in Sonar is it's own thing and if you turn it on it will work without needing to turn on Sonic @wind patrol

To explain it a bit easier, Sonic runs by itself without a separate engine like Sonar, since it's built-in. But with Sonar's SA it requires the usage of an engine and that to be off to avoid complications and overriding and sounding weird.

As you know, Gamepower's own software is available in the headphones. If I open this software at the same time and also use SteelSeries sonar, will I encounter any problems? The reason I want to use SteelSeries sonar is because I find the equalizer settings of Gamepower software insufficient. My old headset was Logitech and it was a stereo headset. I was very happy with the Sonar. But since this headset is 7.1, it doesn't work stably after opening Gamepower's software. I ran two programs at the same time for a short time, but now I only use Gamepower's software in case I encounter any problems.

It happens to me on the beginning of sonar beta , activated and it was detecting sound but no sound , you need to go check on the bars down below and on the icon 🔊 on the right , left or right click on it depending on the mouse choices you have and go select different sonar in the categories sounds and microphone you are supposed to have 5 or 6 sonar sélection and 2-3 choices on microphone, hope it help for those who still have trouble with it .

I was sorting out my audio drivers and I kept running in to an issue (wasn't a sonar issue), and in a panic, I uninstalled the audio drivers from my desktop. Is there a way I can reinstall them without reinstalling steelseries gg?

Try restarting the PC. Windows should automatically reinstall all the necessary audio drivers on boot. If that doesn't work then try disabling Sonar from GG settings, restarting and then reenable it. If all else fails then reinstalling GG is probably your best option

For what purpose? Sonar is generally intended to split game/chat sound

in windows 11 Settings > System > Sound > Volume mixer, I just set the output device for google chrome to headphones and not steelseries sonar - gaming virtual audio device. But that still doesnt solve for 2)

Sounds more like you need something that's more targeted streamers. Your options here could be a GoXLR which is also great for XLR mics as the name implies (can drive a SM7B without a cloudlifter etc). And they're working on giving you a vod mix without music.

Personal preference really, but the bottom one was designed by the audio engineers for R6 so it's probably the most accurate sound experience out of the two. Just try both and see which one you like best, or mess with them and create your own. That's what Sonar is for

There is actually a default preset just for rainbow 6 siege that already boosts footsteps, along with an eq overlay just for r6 as well 👀

Keep in mind, folks - an EQ preset will not sound good with every pair of headphones or speakers. I would advise copying that preset to another file first. Then, tweak it to your liking with whatever headphones, ear buds or speakers you actually use. You could try watching a match replay and tweaking the EQ preset as it plays out to see if it highlights the footsteps in the way you want. However, if tweaking an EQ is a little intimidating, either leave it be, or try messing with the EQ to see how it works.

I just went through similar stuff. I literally had first no use of the chat channel, then reinstalled and had no use of the game channel. The last reinstall I had no mic, but found that my own doing because in my antivirus privacy settings I maxed them out and disabled mic use ( ). augh, just checked patch notes for last sonar update - it'll switch to speakers if headphones are unplugged.
This works, and is great... but I don't tend to unplug the dongle.
What I do is to turn the headphones on an off. Really hope the next update will have an option to switch to headphones when turning on, and back to speakers when turning off

If you're using Sonar you should set the Engine EQ to flat otherwise the Sonar EQ will be competing with the engine EQ and you won't get an accurate sound

@small oyster I re-paired my headset to the DAC and that seems to have worked. With the headset turned off, go to wireless on the DAC > press the wheel twice and it will say pairing, then on the headset hold the power down six seconds until the LED blinks fast and it should pair successfully.

I can say right now, that this software is not good at all whatsovere.

I forgot to disable sonar because i don't really use it besides when testing it out, but somehow while absolutely nothing is tweaked ( settings sonar )

When working on music ( FL Studio ) i use my audio interface driver for low latency, but once i render something the audio was played on windows through the sonar drivers ( which i forgot to disable ) but it changed my rendered file to the point it didn't sound the same as how i play my track through FL Studio.

So for music producers i highly suggest disabling/removing sonar completely.

Anyone have any idea how I can use Sonar with another surround sound solution (like Windows Sonic). I don't really like Sonar Spatial Audio. If I enable Sonar (which is required for ChatMix) and then select Windows Sonic, my audio will be cut for a few seconds and return with the effect that Windows Sonic didn't get enabled.

I just installed Steelseries Nova Pro Wireless and I enabled Sonar. I checked that the output is set to Sonar, but no matter what Sonar settings I'm changing, I can't hear any difference. short answer: movie immersion. turn on spatial audio when you're gaming.

long answer: there is no such thing. all the things you do on a computer have radically different sound profiles, even between different video games or genres of music, not to mention that people have different personal preferences on what sounds 'good'. there isn't gonna be any single preset on a 10-band EQ that can do all of those things objectively better. but if there was it'd be movie immersion lol

We all have different shaped ears, like a finger print, and perceive sound differently.

Games are mixed differently, even movies and songs are mixed differently, along with different genre's, etc.

Then on top of that, every headset or headphone has a unique sound profile, along with your own preference

Some like extra bass, some headphones have extra bass. Some want flat, some want bright highs because they like the sparkle or are older and need to compensate for hearing degredation

Depending on what headset you are trying to use a preset for, I can possibly provide some guidance depending on what you're using it for and what your sound preference is

Definitely, these are all valid points. At the end of the day, Sonar’s huge advantage over something like Dolby Atmos is how extensively you can customize it, but on the flip side it’s not the greatest if you want a single stock preset to set-and-forget

Overall it's superior to Atmos in every way with exception of properly processing object based audio

Technically you can run both at the same time and use Atmos for object based processing, and then sonar for EQ

Sonar allows you to pick exact frequencies, the dB level, and the Q which is how wide or narrow your adjustment is

Atmos should be included with Window/Xbox for no charge but at least you have an option on console. Sony doesn't let you EQ anything unless you have a pulse headset

Make sure headset is completely off, hold power button for 6 seconds (or until it goes into pairing mode and makes some beeps). The light should flicker and go into your base/Dac and go through settings and click “pair”

How do I stop Sonar from demanding that it be the default audio device? I want to output games on a per-application basis (why would I want spotify to run through my gaming EQ???) as well as the fact I have very specific audio routing set up with OBS for streaming.

Sonar works completely without being the default device, but every time it updates, my computer restarts, Sonar is disabled/re-enabled, it forces itself to be the default sound devices.

Not to mention the fact there is zero control in the UI over what Sonar features you use or not. What if you want to use Sonar for just your headset, but your Wave link for your mic? are you SOL?

Anyway... is there a known solution?

With spatial audio on, sonar is doing this weird thing where when I play games, certain sound effects will dim the music automatically. I assume this is the isolation feature that's meant to make it easier to hear footsteps, but it's driving me crazy.

When playing games like jrpgs and just pressing a button to confirm an action in a menu causes all the music to dip hard in volume to try and isolate that sound effect, and it happens every time. Is there any way to disable this isolation?

I like spatial audio on because it makes the sound feel fuller and all around me, it sounds almost empty with it off. But that isolation bleeds into everything, including when I listen to music.

Would someone be able to help me with the "Arctis NOVA Pro Wireless" and also using "Voicemod"?

I use voicemod for a lot of things but I feel like I need to give it up in order to properly use this new NOVA Pro headset to it's fullest.

The issue is that normally how Voicemod works is that you set VM's input to be your microphone, but then at a system level you set Voicemod as the default device. This allows Voicemod to take input from the microphone and then modulate it, as well as be a soundboard by playing sound clips through your mic but with raw audio so that the clip is as if the end-user is listening to it on their machine.

However with the NOVA Pro's, they have the physical microphone option and also SteelSeries Sonar (new to me). However for some reason Sonar is unable to detect my VM Mic, even though it has the drop down option selected. This then prevents me from using any equalizer settings and the noise reductions/cancelation features of the NOVA Pro which is very good.

Thoughts or opinions?

VoiceMod Mic Input: Steele Series Sonar Virtual Mic

Steele Series Sonar Engine: Steele Series Microphone (if this is set to VoiceMod, I get horrid feedback loops like when placing 2 phones next to each other that also dialed each other).

I want to use Sonar's noise canceling but still have it play nice with VoiceMod so that I can play soundclips and use the voice changing effects during streams or DnD Campaigns. However at the moment it appears that it's not possible.

In my experience you can set "Voicemod Virtual Audio Device" as an input for the Sonar microphone channel which will theoretically route the audio from your mic through Voicemod to Sonar. Hope this helps!

I upgraded my Arctis 5's to the Nova Pro Wired for my PC.
Since doing so, I cannot get Sonar/ChatMix configured correctly to save my life. I'm super familiar with/comfortable using virtual sound devices in varying configurations.
I've even gone through and disabled other virtual devices that might have been interfering like various Voicemeeter setups I had etc.

ChatMix just doesn't seem to allow me to actually modify chat and game volumes independently in Sonar.
My default audio device is set to "SteelSeries Sonar - Gaming" and my default communications device is set to "SteelSeries Sonar - Chat".
Discord is set with "Steelseries Sonar - Chat" as its output device.
All my non-Discord applications are set to use Default outputs (meaning they should be outputting to "SteelSeries Sonar - Gaming").

Within Sonar, my only options for Game and Chat devices are "Headphones - Arctis Nova Pro" (which does also show up in my Windows Device list but is not set as a default device for anything nor does any application specifically output to that device)
Sonar's audio balancer even displays its graphs as if this is all working correctly (with the game channel spiking while playing sound from a browser or game and the chat channel spiking while someone is talking in Discord)
When I press the dial on the DAC and move the balancer to the Game side, the chat audio cuts as expected.
However, when I move the slider to the chat channel, it has no effect on the volume level of the other applications, despite the Sonar UI also indicating the ChatMix dial has moved to the Chat channel exclusively.

Anyone had problems with this? I've seen a bunch of similar posts on Reddit from people having issues getting ChatMix configured correctly through Sonar with the Arctis Pro.

This persists through any number of reboots, disconnections/reconnection of any various cabling from the headset to the DAC to the pc, restarting of Sonar, restarting of Windows audio services etc. All drivers and relevant software are updated.

I have a problem with chatmix not working correctly. I got a SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless. I selected SteelSeries Sonar Gaming as the default audio device in Windows and selected SteelSeries Sonar Chat as the default output device in Discord. I can hear everything fine and I see the two different devices being used correctly in the SteelSeries GG mixer window. But for some reason, nothing changes when I use the chatmix dial on my Headset. I can see the mix changing on the DAC but I hear everything at the same volume and nothing is changing at all.

If you have a DAC you cant change it in the app, it will only let you control chat mix from the DAC

I just mean that in the app I can't select the separate sound inputs like I can in the windows setting (Sonar Gaming & Sonar Chat). It only shows up in the app as 'Headphones (2 - Arctis Nova Pro Wireless)' with no separate options for chat/gaming. This leads to the chatmix on the DAC or headset having zero affect on the sound at all

been having this issue with SteelSeries Sonar where if i stream a game through discord, the volume is low for anyone listening. I need to disable Sonar to get anyone to hear audio in my games. Are there any EQ settings I can use in Sonar to prevent the low volume?

I have a problem with sonar that when I'm playing Escape from tarkov with the filter dedicated to EFT the sound of not just the game but even my discord call becomes laggy, and there are those disrupting breaks in the sound, and I have to turn sonar off to hear normally, I thought it's just EFT first but it's the same with other fps games as well sadly, anyone knows a fix or something?

Hi there. I have a problem with the latest Sonar update. Yesterday my Mic-input worked well (using a focusrite scarlett solo 3rd) in Sonar. But today the mic is still setup correctly within the software but there is no signal or output given. It only turns on (mic is recognized) when I open my Windows Sound setting (WIN11). Anyone knows what the issue is or can give me any advice how to fix this? Cheers

@warped surge so i had this problem, i had to uninstall the steel series app, reinstall then turnon sonar once it installed, it worked right away. Sonar gameplay wasnt working either, and it fixed it aswell

Even though the Sound Mixer indicates that sounds are playing, I'm unable to hear any sound coming from my headphones while utilizing the Gaming - SteelSeries Sonar Virtual Audio Device. Just SteelSeries Sonar-chat is functional. Gaming sonar is completely useless. I've tried several things, including reinstalling GG and tinkering with the sound devices. But it was in vain. With Windows 11 and SteelSeries Sonar Virtual Audio Device, I believe there is a compatibility issue. My second laptop, which runs Windows 10, does not exhibit this issue. Those anyone has any advice on how to troubleshoot this issue?

ok so i downloaded gg on windows 11

but before i did i turned the base unit on and waited 5-10 mins for any updates in windows 11

and there was

especially for the steelseries

so i installed gg

now for turn on and activation of gg

headphones come on and get recognised by windows 11

now to open gg

ok so the first thing that comes up is whether you have an account if not make one

and you have to log in

ok logged in now to activate sonar

ok so the next screen is startsetup

unless you have another mic this will be the only selection for the mic

and discord just picked it up and asked me to switch

but it only switched the speakers so you have to manually select that .... check your settings

everything is working as it should be

obviously i have not tested moments on windows 11 or engine but i will at this point assume it is

so if you have been following this and your still having problems if you can install your windows 11 to a spare drive fresh install yes even onto a flashdrive with windows to go option in rufus

and do the install in the sequence i have laid out

and do please allow windows 11 to fully update with the base station and headset turned on

before installation of gg

So just discovered the Sonar feature within GG. I'm playing with the Noise Reduction features, but they don't seem to do anything. After turning the sliders all the way to the right, and then doing a MIC test, I can still hear every single key press in the background.

@hybrid plazai have the wireless and no u don't have the dac or base unit so my advice is to look up how to use the noise cancellation on your headset. But i do know when i tested with the arctis nova pro wireless with my mate on discord and i was messing with the settings they worked ie they altered and he could not hear me tapping on the keyboard also i think you have to have it activated on the headset i cannot see it being much different if it is a feature of your headset and from what i have read all of the headsets come with a noise cancelling microphone

Ya there isn't much to configure with the base options in the Engine app. But I'd like to use the Sonar feature that has more options, but they don't seem to do much. In fact, when I enable the sonar feature, it makes all my audio sound echoed, so it actually makes it sound worse.

if you turn on sonar you should probably turn off DTS headphones/surround sound and also set the EQ to flat. Sonar and DTS do similar functions so if you have both on it can cause sound issues

Ok I did that, but it still makes voice audio very echoed. The regular game audio and music and stuff sounds normal, but whenever somebody talks it seems very echoed.

It's strange, when I use the MIC test within the Sonar section, my voice sounds fine. But if I use the MIC test within the GG engine section, it sounds echoed. And just listening to a youtube video with vocal audio also sounds echoed.

Oh I figured it out, it was the Spacial Audio setting I had enabled.

Ya it's fixed now, it was the spacial audio option. Now my only issue with Sonar is the noise reduction feature not doing anything.

That's the Clearcast AI Noise Cancellation feature though. The Noise reduction settings should still work though right? I'm able to enable/adjust those.

well I'm saying the noise cancelling that's on the feature page on the screenshot you posted is built in and doesn't need to be tweaked.

sonar does add more basic noise cancelling features, provided that the mic is setup to go through sonar. just make sure you're using the mic test feature in Sonar to be able to listen back to it.

Ya that's the MIC test I've been using. It doesn't seem to matter where I move the slider for noise cancellation, I can still hear my keyboard at the same volume no matter what. I'm just trying to hide my keyboard typing sounds.
