If your headset has a wide sound stage, I'd imagine it could handle the surround better than Sonar's.. I find Sonar adds a bit too much "mud".. It also splits the sound a little to much imo, like it's trying too hard to make it surround.. Hard to explain.. I have Arctis 7+ and keep 7.1 turned off as the sound stage seems to be wide enough, I can still hear footsteps behind me

Sonar's EQ is very good, you can control individual frequencies instead of a standard 10 band EQ.. This would be ideal for anyone wanting a decent EQ for any headset, so long as you can get it to work with other headsets. You can change the bands according to what you hear in your headset, which gives you ultimate control of the sound

OK.. I've spent the past hour going for a Netflix Movie Config... I'm suuuuuper torn whether it sounds better with 7.1 or without the 7.1 option.. You lose some quality with it on, but gain a lot better directional sounds.. Then again, without it seems to gain more clarity and fullness, but you lose a bit on directional sounds. I'ma say it'll all depend on what each person likes and prefers, but.. Here's what I got for the moment:

NOTE: I played mostly action movies and TV shows, mostly new shows with Dolby and more recent audio production. I skipped to high action, and more quiet scenes with more voice action. I have NOT tried anything older, I would imagine the audio would be a bit more relaxed and not as detailed. This may affect the config some, probably wouldn't do well with 7.1 active since it adds a lot of mid tones and adds in a lot more reverb. If the high tones are too piercing, you should be able to adjust this more simply with the Treble Boost slider, same with bass tones or the need for more voice clarity. Sliders are far easier to tweak than the EQ Bands which is how I did up this config.

Aye I think I'll try this one out myself. My general rule of thumb for streaming content on PC is if it's a TV show (especially cable TV) or basic movie that has "5.1 surround sound" generally it's best to leave the 7.1 or comparable surround option off on the headset itself as that type of content never really does much with the sound in terms of directionality and I generally get a better listening experience from just plain stereo. If it's a show or movie with Dolby Atmos however, I usually turn my surround sound on as those usually make good use of sound and directionality.

There's a lot of things you gain and things you lose doing both, was hard to decide.. I was sitting there switching it on in high action while things blowing up all around, then switching off.. At one point I lost whether I had it on or off, turns out was on and I was enjoying the directional sounds a lot, so it does help with that immersion factor.. But then on more quiet scenes, it's loses some clarity..

good to know! we do take a very technical approach to some of the presets to extract very specific set of sounds which may sometimes lead to what you are describing hahaha hopefully you are able to atleast use the valorant preset as a base and adjust it to your liking. Voice activity for me, I left the settings for that on default.

Also, it's worth noting that my voice settings aren't for hardcore gaming, but more for when I have stream/talk sessions with friends and we say stuff back and forth a lot.
To put in context: we play Ace Attorney together and each of us voices a different character. I record what happens, then supercut the footage into a best-of for my buds and I to enjoy. 🙂

Hi all! I got the Arctis 7+ and the ps5 yesterday. Im coming from a ps4 with the standard ps headset. Although my new setup should be much better, I struggled the whole day to find a proper preset for my sim racing titles. ACC and gt7 sound really like its 'in a box' and the sound is just really bad. Managed to find the Forza Horizon 5 preset, but still sounds horrible in ACC. I really miss my crisp immersive sound from my old budget headset. Does anyone here managed to create a good preset for sim racing titles? Would be much appreciated if shared :). Thanks in advance!

On main screen, there's a thing advertising Sonar with a "Learn More" button.. Gotta click that to get Sonar active on your GG program.. Right now the only thing you have is the main Engine. Once active, in the list that shows the Engine, you seep Sonar 'Early Access'..

Yup, set the Microphone config to your USB mic default, there's EQ Config in there as well as noise suppression and other filters. You can record your voice and play back while adjusting settings

Make sure you're in Sonar and not the engine.. There's a microphone tab in Sonar.. Anything you need to use the USB mic with, set default to Sonar Microphone for audio device

Sonar has 3 tabs: Mixer, Chat, Microphone.. Your headset uses chat mix so the default should be headset for mixer, headset chat which is headset mic for the chat tab, then USB mic for the microphone tab

Anything used with Sonar... How it works.. It runs through Sonar, so Sonar would be your default audio devices for any of those devices running through it

Windows audio defaults, Sonar Gaming is headset, Sonar Chat is headset mic, and Sonar Microphone is USB mic.. If you use headset mic for Discord and USB mic for programs like OBS Studio, windows default will be Sonar Gaming and Sonar Chat. Other programs that can be changed for audio default can be changed to Sonar Microphone

That'll be with noise compressor and the other filters.. The EQ only covers how it sounds, not background noise.. This highly depends on your environment. This is why there's a record button top right under microphone tab.. You can record your voice with the background sound, then play it on a loop. Then mess with the filters until it comes out how you like it

You can use both, but windows likes to set Sonar back to defaults when GG opens... For me, Sonar works fine.. I can't use VM due to my setup so this was a perfect solution for me.. For you, if VM isn't working then Sonar may be better.. Or try to combine both, but just be aware of the audio defaults when you reboot your PC

If you use VM for your mic as default, and run Sonar Microphone device into VM, shouldn't be an issue... I think it's more the Sonar Chat, but I don't use VM so not sure how it'll handle it.. I do know you can use both, you just gotta use Sonar as main device, then run it through VM

hmmmm maybe try this but honestly, if you just play around with the bands, you yourself will be able to come up with something you like/are comfortable with. Highly depends on your personal taste and hardware profile etc. You can always reset the band or the entire EQ to default if you go too far so i would say more experimentation the better

utilize the label above the graph. it will tell you approximately where certain sounds are for provided configs/games. I would then play around with the gain and Q factor to get something to your liking. "good sound" is highly dependent on hardware, personal taste, surrounding etc. so you are the best judge on what is good but the tool is there to give you control 😄 Hope this helps

Sonar EQ settings don't save to the headset. GG and Sonar need to be running for those to apply. If you save an EQ through the standard Engine settings then that will save to the headset and doesn't require any software to be running once it's saved

warzone footsteps are between the 500hz-1khz area of their sound mix

that being said

their mix is muddy

and you cannot just pull footsteps out like it is its own audio channel

literally just cut off 80hz and below

tune down your bass a few db

bump your voice up 1 or 2 db

you can try playing around with the 150-250 range just to get some lower end detail

Something ive thought is funny and pretty stupid is that when we share our presets we forget something very important therefore Auto EQ fixes that problem.

So what is Auto EQ?
Auto EQ is a library of EQs for thousands of headphones and iems.

How do u use it.

Search Auto EQ and press the github link and first go too results then ctrl F and search your headphone it should be there. press the link for ur headphone and scroll down too where there says parametric EQ and try and put that in. sadly u cant change ur q values under 0.5 so it wont be as good as it could be but should be later.

Hey everyone! After some time, I've decided to jump in and try myself tune something enjoyable for my ears, which will distinct every instrument/vocals while getting the benefits of having "virtual" stage provided by spatial audio. I'll preface everything by saying I won't claim any titles for having "best ear" and things like that, and I'm heavily encouraging further tweaking to each personal taste. Main general usage of said preset is mainly rock/metal and instrumental music, but I'm frequently joining friends Spotify listening sessions, so in the end, I had to came up with something that will work out in most uses, while having nice clarity in mids and "oomph" without too much heaviness on low end that will mud things out. I also encourage further personal tweaking to fit each tastes 😉 As a "Tune" library I've used Spotify list with songs that were remastered/recorded, ending up in great fidelity, and then jumping out to personal music library (also on Spotify). I haven't used any external audio players or enhancers, I'm using Arctis 5 (2019) edition headphones and Steelseries GG 18.0. Here are the settings:

If you use the microphone tab you can record your own voice and play around with the settings. Since everyone's voice is different, and the mic depending on what headset you have or if you use a third party mic, there will not be one general preset that'll work. You'll just have to record yourself and see how each setting and EQ changes your voice until you get something that's good for you 🙂

the bottom image you sent make sure its all turned off and eq are flat has it will be messing up the sonar eq you are trying to use

The engine needs to be 100% set to default, so like morphbot10 said, flatten EQ and make sure everything like DTS is all turned off or defaulted. Sonar is its own beast and they will clash with each other..

@marble sinew There's a record button to record your voice to playback while adjusting the settings.. Every voice is different which means there is no general EQ for microphones.. You will actually have to record yourself using the record button in Sonar and mess with the settings until you like what you hear..

For the nova pro's I've found that the sound profile of the microphone gets changed when sonar is enabled. it sounds really shrilly and this mic eq fixes that and even makes the mic sound 10000x better anyways 👀 pretty epic eq if you ask me, I was stoked when I finally dialed this in.

Alright boys and girls i think i found the best warzone rebirth EQ settings

still doing some testing but this is what's working for me and sound good, not much of a difference from the Preset WZ EQ but i feel like these tweaks make a huge difference

Yea my chat eq meanwhile is really favoring of my hearing experience, I put a major dip on the bass and a major dip on the really high end just to focus on the average human vocal range, but having good chat eq is nice too 👀

Your welcome! I especially love the microphone one. I did the eq while using obs’ raw microphone monitoring to get it as good as I could (even then though I may be able to make it better)

Man that's a rough question. with my current eq I'd say sonar but some may say no amount of eq can compensate for the locked audio quality your forced at when enabling sonar. If you like sonar on more than sonar off then that's understandable but if you like it off, that's also understandable it's so close in my opinion it's really down to preference
