hello. i initially got Arctis 9X to use with Xbox adapter on PC. however, the quality was very bad and it seems due to interference that i cannot seem to make better (even with adapter very close to headphones).

i instead picked up the Arctis 7X+. they seem to be better on the interference front. so, i am planning to return the 9X. i see there is also a 7+ but looking at the specifications the only difference i can see is that it doesn't support Xbox natively over USB-C. is this the only difference between the 7X+ and 7+?

my other question is are there any models that have a higher than 6.5KHz microphone frequency response?

On a side note, im having a weird behavior with my prime wireless(if anyone encountered it), whenever I plug it to charge, it takes about 30 seconds before it even connects and starts charging, then all my SS devices(arctis 7/apex7) cycle on/off a few times

same thing happens when i plug it back into wireless mode

they will work eventually after they cycle a few times its just annoying sometimes when you quickly wanna plug ur mouse to charge while in a valorant game

Unfortunately all the Sonar VADs are locked to 16 bit, 48khz for Game, Chat, and Mic. The reason Game has 8 channels vs the 2 channels on Chat is so if you have a native 7.1 surround speaker system connected to your PC you're still able to use Sonar to tune your audio without losing out on native surround sound.

Hello folks! New Arctis Nova Pro Wireless user and I love the headset. I have one issue though - The Chatmix Feature does not work if Windows Main-Output is set to anything else than the Arctis Headset. This is counterintuitive since I still have the two virtual Arctis devices available and use them. The use-case is as follows:
-) Flying Microsoft Flight Simulator
-) Game main output on the speakers (engine sounds etc..) therefore windows output set to speakers
-) Discord and Teamspeak on the Arctis Chat-output
-) ATC on the Arctis Game-output.
Sonar even tells me, that for Chatmix to work, I have to set the default output to arctis, so I suppose this is a "feature", even though on my friends Arctis non-nova pro wireless this works without any issues. Does anyone have an idea how to work around that issue?

I mean, I am aware, that this is a rather niche requirement, but since the headset is emulating two devices, I see no reason, why chatmix should not work when the default output is set to anything else than arctis since it is the two virtual devices that are being used by the other programs

1. I’m not following in one spot here so I want to make a clarification. Sonar’s own virtual outputs are not supposed to show up here.
2. In control panel -> hardware and sound -> sound. Set sonar game as the default device, then sonar chat as the default communication device. This is how it’s supposed to be all set up instead of using the convenient audio device switcher windows provides in the corner.
   And sadly a 3. From my experience steelseries got rid of the hardware mixer going from the GameDAC Gen 1 to the Gen 2, and I’m pretty sure it’s the same for the wireless’ transmitter

If 2 doesn’t help for some reason, then a ticket would have to be made sadly because if that’s set correctly, and your playback devices are set correctly, and things still don’t work out, that’d be considered a bug that only they can (probably, hopefully) rule out

That is sad to hear. I will try to inquire with a ticket though, since the two-device design and the option to balance the two devices was one of the main reasons to get that particular headset. So in sonar. If I talk into my Blue Yeti, the bars in sonar don’t move. But if I open up OBS then the bar will actually start to go up and down as I talk. But I’m sonar if I try and use the slider to change mic volume it won’t work. Slider will go up and a down but doesn’t change the volume

If I close OBS. The bar for the mic in sonar goes dead. The same thing will happen if I text the mic in windows settings. The mic bar in Sonar starts to read that there is sound coming through the mic. But again the slider for the mic in Sonar doesn’t do anything. Slides move up and down but doesn’t affect the volume. I’m assuming that I shouldn’t have to open another program for Sonar to read my Yeti mic

if you turn on sonar then go into the "game" or "chat" tab and scroll down, there should be the smart volume option. that'll do the same thing as loudness equalization

Engine is used to change settings directly on the device. any changes you make in engine are saved to the headset and can be used to carry over changes to consoles, another PC, etc. however these options are usually limited to a simple EQ as well as no other audio processing options.

Sonar is a software suite that adds a lot more options to the audio processing. it runs on your PC so it can't save to the headset, but you get more features like the full parametric EQ, some noise removal, smart sound, etc.

Ah my friend's had this issue before. Search up "RealTek Audio Console" in your windows search button (screenshot 1) and then (screenshot 2) select the port that's bright and colored (unlike the color in the screenshot lol), and from the dropdown select "headphones" instead of whatever is already selected

Your computer must've assigned it as something like line out or something which would be the undesired selection

The GameDAC Gen 2 supports 24 bit audio whereas the old GameDAC only did 16 bit so that's where the improvement comes from. There might also be improvement in regards to signal noise and that kind of stuff, but the big upgrade is the bit depth

That's just how they're branding the new Nova line of headsets as better than the old Arctis line. The only Nova specific features within Sonar are the distance slider for spatial audio so you can customize how wide the surround soundstage is in the headset and the ClearCast AI noise cancelling software for the headset mic

Yeah no worries. It can be kind of confusing. As for the surround sound, the normal reverb slider should work for performance vs immersion, just not the speaker distance since the software would need to send that data to the headset via a digital signal and it can't do that with analog, same with the AI noise cancelling

A good assumption when looking at their headsets is to assume that the USB sets have all or most of the software features and the analog headsets will have minimal software features since they're designed to be plug and play with multiple platforms without drivers or anything

I've been at this for 5 hours. I hate posting for help, but I need help. I just bought Nova Pro Wired. Without Sonar it works well. When I turn on Sonar my mic works, others can hear me, my chat volume works, I can hear other people talking. BUT my game audio is non existent. I cannot hear windows audio or game audio.

With ChatMix setup is it expected that Windows will automatically select the SteelSeries Sonar - Chat virtual device (set as default for communications) when a audio communication app is used? Or do I need to configure the audio communication app to use that "default for communications" device?

@fallen frost when you set up Sonar it goes through the set up for the devices, from what I can tell (this new update doesn’t show my inputs/outputs in sonar correctly) but basically yes chat is assigned to the communications device. This way you can chat split between your game sound and comms program sound. For example, for in game sound my output is set to sonar game in warzone and it is set to sonar chat in discord so that I can use chat mix

For example Discord has input/output devices set to "Default". I don't know if that means Windows is using the Sonar Chat or Sonar Gaming output.

Somewhere Windows needs to make a decision if Discord = is a default audio app or a default communication app

No, I understand that Sonar automatically created the virtual devices and set them to defaults (Gaming for default audio device, Chat for default comm device).. but I'm talking about pointing the individual app to one or the other automatically.

For example if I leave Discord set to "Default" Output device Windows routes it to the Gaming virtual device, not the Chat virtual device.

Since discord is a "communications" app I want Windows to route it to the Chat virtual device automatically.

News just in for anyone having the issue of sonar not working.

Go into your downloads and reinstall the 22.0 version and restart your comp.

Your out and input should automatically set back to normal settings

Tho sonar will still say HEADPHONES in the mixer but the mixer will now work

I am still at it with the Sonar. I uninstalled 23.0 software and installed 22.0 software with no luck fixing my issue. I just spent the last 1.5 hours reinstalling windows (clean install). I installed GG software 23.0 (latest) My issue still persists. My mic works through sonar, my chat mix works through sonar, I can hear people talking to me through chat apps. BUT the gaming mix has no audio.

Sidenote, it I disable sonar and just use the normal headphones and mic it works, I cannot get the gaming audio portion of sonar to work.

QQ - has anyone tried using the Arctic nova pro wireless Xbox version on both xbsx and ps5? It appears that there is an issue that when used on the ps5 and you then go back to Xbox, the mic won’t work. The only way to resolve this is to take out the usb-c cable from the back of the DAC. I haven’t tried updating the firmware (as getting hands on a pc is a bit of an issue) but does anyone know if this will resolve the problem? Thanks for any guidance/info

they need to make this disclaimer upfront but as of for @amber vortex too. Your not supposed to have sonar's own outputs in it's own mixer tab. those are what you want the audio to come out of (so in dropthedot's case it's his/her nova wireless'). Sonar's kinda just the middle man who makes the final output. it piggy backs off of your existing audio drivers.

Yeah so on the DAC there are two USBC ports so if you plug one of them into your PC and the other into your PS5 that should work, or have Bluetooth on your PC and then plug in your PS5 with the dac

Hey guys, today my Arctis 7+ just randomly stopped working. These are only a month old. No physical damage at all. Never dropped them nor dropped or spilt anything on them. They were working fine 2-3 hours ago. I turn my PC on again and see that they are not powering on at all.

Trouble shooting: I have plugged them in, charged them for 15-20 minutes but still got nothing.
The headset work fine when I plug them in with the included 3.5mm cable. Which I think suggests something with the battery or power button.

I'm gonna try the pin method from steelseries' youtube channel but I guess that's only for powering down. I'm gonna let them charge for 30 minutees and also try them on a different device before doing this.

Hi. I did clean reinstall on Steelseries GG, deleted audio device drivers and reinstalled new ones.

Tried setting up Sonar but it kept forver loading on the "setting up sonar on your selected audio devices" So i restarted the app. Now I get to the sonar page and see the mixer etc. but there are red lines and red ! around the playback and input slections, also sentence on top in big yellow box that says "set sonar devices as default audio devices in your windows sound settings"

I just got an Apex Pro and the Nova Pro wireless and I don't get how to customize the two screens.

I had the Arctics Pro Wireless before and i avoided burn in with the screensaver option but i don't find it now, it's always on with the volume bar. Same thing for the Apex, I have the SteelSeries logo and I only found the option to change the picture.

I kinda wanted to explore what I could do with the two screen and, if the options were not interesting for me, activate a screensaver to avoid the burnin.

There's probably a sonar config file you can transfer to your backup before reinstalling but I'm not sure. it probably will save, hopefully.

Whatever suits your needs it is relatively new to the steelseries family so it is quite buggy for some people sadly

I'm just gonna set this here. If anyone wants to backup sonar's settings, although I would not recommend it because sonar's very delicate rn and they may not transfer right, the file you want to copy to your backup folder is
"C:\ProgramData\SteelSeries\GG\sonar-db\database.db"

Hi all, Is SteelSeries GG App support Sensei Laser Gaming Mouse? When i install any steelseries engine version, my mouse stop working. But when i was delete it, my mouse working correctly. Anyone have this problem?

Just got my Arctis 9. Massively surprised and annoyed that when I turn off the headphones, my audio output doesn't automatically switch back to my speakers. It still seems to keep pumping audio to the transmitter, I have to go to windows settings to flick back to speaker output. That seems like an incredibly basic thing that I'd just assume would work.... Hoping I've just missed something during setup but yeah, not a fantastic initial impression...

my Sonar audio is not heard throught the headset, but Sonar can detect the mic and it shows the different audio inputs working in the mixer. Don't really know what to do.

ok... hello all, just got an Arct. pro+gdac set, first timer, and... issues. 1st: the text in the SS GG app is all blurred, can't read a thing; 2nd: I can hear everything that the mike captures when it's active, like.. everything, from everywhere: my voice, my breath, my keyboard, the dog barking outside, my cat snoring..and that's a problem, a big one; 3rd: with the volume set between 0 and -20, I can hear a very weird almost disturbing sound, it's like a constant little buzzing fading in, fading out, and white noise.

@last geode what headset? I only ask because the nova pro wireless have external mics on the top of the cups for the ANC and if you touch them (I.e while using the wheel and your index touches the top) they will make a sound since you’re touching the mic

When running Sonar with my Arctis 7+ in game Sonar works with the virtual Sonar devices. But switching to my browser window to watch a stream, there is no audio output. I have to sswitch the system sound to "Headphones" specifically. Am I doing something wrong?
