can any nice person guide me on how to set some defaults audio/mic options in the sonar app? it keeps defaulting to my yeti microphone instead of my headset, but i can't see a "default" option anywhere in the app

SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.

You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.

Actually I used one for my Laptop but my Laptop died immediately after warranty AND COMPLETELY you cannot even fix it. :( I tried for hours even in a professional repair shop nope. Gone. AND replacing the motherboard costs more than the Laptop itself. NEVER BUY GIGABYTE

True but I wanted a mouse with proper side buttons, and I had grown tired of the 3rd iteration of razer mice with swappable side panels where mid raid would the panel fail and you would need to take it off and brush the contact and hope it started working again before everyone wiped because you were the healer, so wanted a mouse without swappable side panels, I had just VASTLY underestimated the giant hands required for the steelseries mouse

I have the Prime + (the right click sounds awful and sometimes doesn't work right even when the mouse was new), The Rival 3 (it's super cool, looks cool and works great and fits perfectly into my hand) and the Rival 600 which I use all the time on my PC I love the mouse but sadly it doesn't quite function right... It always disconnects without even disconnecting. :( it's so sad because it's awesome. Tried resetting it and tried to uninstall SteelSeries gg and the drivers but nothing worked. It didn't used to do this tho.

In the end I gave up and moved back to the Razer Hyperspeed v2, which is technically a downgrade of the prior razer mouse that failed on me but no swappable side panel so it's actually been functioning flawless

Oh so regarding razer, if you're in NA don't touch it, if you're in EU especially scandinavia consumer protection law covers your arse, they have some pretty decent mice and keyboard but they are notoriously bad at Q&A of their products
meaning it's like drawing a lottery, for EU you just need to bonk them a few times and you will get a working product that you can be happy with.

I got the Arena 9 and I must admit, I haven't had much luck with it all games seems to have vastly lets call it ... interesting support for 5.1 surround, and you can't even set it as a Stereo device if you wanted to and then upmix it.
I'm currently running my Arena 9 through my monitor that counts as a Stereo device while I'm playing Suicide squad ( 5 bucks sale so I'm having a laugh )

but running the device directly 80% of sounds are gone

Yeah I'm a bit more picky with my mic, but again used to be a partnered streamer so my XLR mic /setup is a bit higher quality than can be provided by USB mic, but since I quit I just downgraded to the Arctis Pro, the convenience of wireless is rather nice and it's "serviceable"

I found a trick that works, I am running the Speakers through my monitor that windows detects as surround, and then I'm using it's "upmix" for "fake" surround

oh the monitor is 240hz, but I mostly lock it at 120hz and then I let AMD framegen take care of the rest, people have the wrong idea about framegen, it's not magic, it works the best with a locked static framerate

So it's much better to sit at 120fps locked, than having 130-170fps in variation

It's the thing I do enjoy with AMD above nvidia is I don't have to care if game companies support it, I just press a button and Bam it works ;D

While nvidia does do a bit of a better job, it only supports 20 or so games versus just being able to click any game in your library ;3

monster hunter world is a game I was very happily using the framegen for as an example

most of the advertisement around motion interpolation is like oh look your game have an unstable framerate look this magic can double it.
which is the worst usecase you could possibly find because the frames are going to be all over the place.

the best usecase is like if you can't keep a stable framerate lock it at 60-> double it to 120

the best usecase I've personally experienced is motion interpolation in the Zelda OOT project taking it from 25fps -> 60fps

Oh yeah FSR 3.1 fully works even on your card and gives all the bells and whistles, fun fact was the 4000 series cards immediately dropped in price as a result as they pretty much only had the framegen stuff and DLSS / AI where performance was simmiliar to the 3000 series sometimes worse.

In my case there was a few reasons I went AMD
I value the having more control
2: the option to move between windows and Linux as I please ( nvidia drivers are notoriously bad on linux, especially wayland )

but yeah any game running FSR 3.1 should fully work on your current nvidia card, framegen and everything 🙂

but it needs to be integrated in the game itself, the advantage of having an AMD card is I can just point and go "do your magic" regardless of game support or not 🙂

Well and I couldn't justify 400 dollars more at the time for 10% uplift in frames for the 20 or so games with RTX

so yeah at the time I bought my 7900xtx for 900 usd, and the Rtx 4080 cost 1350 usd ( + a bit extra based on vendor )

And I saw quite a few advantages to the AMD card... And the only advantage at the time to the 4080 I saw was like 5fps more in 15-20 or so games

I couldn't quite justify the "cost"
besides I'm not all that amazed by windows 11, so I do a majority of my gaming on linux

it's especially nice with my UW screen as getting games that doesn't support ultrawide setup like this only takes a drag and drop.
on windows 11 you can't even move the start/taskbar without external paid applications xD

You can emulate the same behaviour on windows but it literally takes 3 paid applications, windows power toys and a lot of setup per game xD

the modding scene behind original generations was impressive

they fully ported stuff like all unleashed levels into their own mod game for generations

Mic channel won't hear me. If i turn Sonar off, I can use the headset mic as default mic in Windows but then I cannot get the headphones to work, checked drivers etc.

So, I've been trying to find comparisons for this and the biggest challenge has been that most specs doesn't list the actual size of the capsule. Generally speaking it seems like most of the companies who use the multiple capsule design uses a 14mm capsule and when you compare the surface area with the Alias's 25mm capsule, that is in fact 3 times bigger, 3,19x to be exact. That's not to say that there aren't options that has bigger cap but based on this quick look at it I would argue that saying it's 3 times bigger is not a lie however it is super sus to not be specific about which mic it's compared to and that it's surface area.

If you have the Nova 1 , which version did you get? The PC version should come with the extension cable to use on PC. Also uses you Windows audio settings, since it is connected via 3.5mm connection

Let's make sure that your devices are set up properly:

Go To Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch
Under Backup Device Switch > Move your desired device to the Playback devices and make sure that it's setup as (1) this will set the device as high priority
Make sure that the device is set as high priority on every Tab being GAME / CHAT / MEDIA / AUX / MIC

After properly setting up your playback devices, feel free to restart your device and SteelSeries GG itself then further confirm if the issue persists.

Anyone know why the chat mixer suddenly doesn't affect "media", and how to fix this? I still want to turn down spotify, youtube, etc when I want to hear what someone on disc is talking about better. It always used to do that, but after this new GG update it only affects "game" and "chat"...
Also: I don't want to put things like youtube under the "game" EQ. I obviously have a completely different EQ on my music and videos than I do in games.

the chatmix mixer in sonar has never affected the Media output. It's always just been Game/Chat.

Do you happen to have an older Arctis headset with onboard chatmix? That chatmix runs separately from Sonar and you can end up in situations where the outputs go to the wrong side of the hardware chatmix.

I used the Arctis Pro for years, yes. And it affected everything on my computer. Ever since I got my Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, until today, it was also the case.

If the chat mix knob on my game dac doesn't affect the videos or music I'm watching at all, then that's pretty dumb lol. If I want to turn up or down my people to hear what else I'm doing/hear them better, then that's what I want. No matter if I'm in game or not.

Nah. I even checked a lot of the time. I put games like Subnautica in Media, for more immersive sound EQ. Made sure Chrome was in Media. Put FPS games and such in Game, for a more performance based EQ

If you're right, and the chat mix knob never affected media on the computer(hard disagree), then I will straight up refund my headset. Steelseries should honestly make that optional, if for some weird reason you were to want to not turn down or up the rest of your computer in relation to either hearing others better, or hearing what you're doing/watching better

it's always been that way with sonar headsets, i'm not sure what your setup was before that was making it work that way. on older arctis headsets, you HAD to pick either Game or Chat for one of your outputs, so everything was tied together and affected together. but on Nova headsets with Sonar, anything in Media or Aux would be outside the chatmix.

Though if you wanted it the old way, then you still can just set your music apps to go to Game or Chat. This wouldn't be much different from having to pick Game or Chat from the older arctis series.

@sage badgeok unless you physically installed the motherboard drivers yourself windows will install the microsoft generic drivers for your motherboard these are not optimized for your mothboard so you need to install from msi site especially the chipset io and me and audio drivers !!
