Part 7 is the best emotionally and part 4 has the best main antagonist, but part 6 is the best written in it entirety

If you skip one you miss the villain who haunts the entire narrative, the origin and importance of the Joestars, humanity and fate, not to mention Speedwagon, so basically the foundation for every important feature

If you skip two you miss Joseph Joestar who’s an extremely important character throughout all of joestars acting as a dispatcher in multiple parts, you also miss the conclusion of hamon and the theme of humanity prevailing

If you skip part 3 you don’t see Dio’s conclusion which haunts the entire series up to even part 7 and you don’t meet jotaro, possibly the most important Joestar of them all, not to mention stands entirely

If you skip part 4, you don’t really miss anything, but it’s good and you learn about stand arrows

If you skip part 5 you can kind of get away with it other than Dio’s followers and kids thing. It also shows more stand types and conclusions for some old characters

If you skip part 6 you miss the ending to the original continuity and conclusion to the original Joestar lineage which, you just can’t skip

If you skip part 7 you miss spin and the events of the steel ball run race along with what devil’s palm is and the significance of a corpse.

If you skip 8 you miss more of the same from part 7 and the best part imo as well as a conclusion to loose ends in part 7

Part 5 branching off isn't what makes it a bad part, I've written the essay on why I believe it's the worst written by far like 17 times now so I won't write it again here (Contact me dms if you do wanna know I'm always happy to write it again) but I disagree with the Jotaro one as not only do we get context for what he's done, how he's grown, and how he's handled life after Stardust Crusaders, but it also provided a good bit of speculation with Polnareff in part 5 aswell as well as how he's so proficent with his ability in part 6

Part 4 had a much better written villain hiding in the shadows complete with an actually interesting final fight where they dont end the fight with a lame ass deus ex machina

Part 3 and 4 had much better team synergy, team building moments, and they actually fight together past the first few episodes. Part 5 notoriously has no proper team fights past Man in the Mirror except somewhat Ciocollata. It's either 1v1's or tag team fights where the other person fighting gets taken out of the fight before hand so they don't work together

Pesci and Prosciutto both got taken out by Bruno who was the only completely written characters so they had a good arc, however they had no lasting effect on the story past messing with transportation like the part 3 villains

And Ghiaccio was a complete disappointment of a fight, not contributing anything to the story, being probably the best written, but getting completely robbed in every single turn

Plus it was a tag team fight so it not having a unique rube goldberg machine esc ending was extremely sad

maybe because at that point team bucciarati we’re trying to crack down the bosses identity so there would be no reason for la squadra to attack them. also giorno has beautiful writing you just have to understand him. giorno isnt a growth based mc, hes an ideology based mc, hes not trying to change himself but he’s trying to change the world. he has the perfect amount of screen time so that’s why the golden wind side cast was so amazing since he wasn’t hogging all the screen time but also wasn’t taking too little. bruno simply feels like the mc because that’s just how it’s supposed to be, giorno starts as a follower then becomes a leader. you could argue that his “random power up” is just a bad concept but he was the worth one and was always fated to change the corrupt. giorno is simply just a complex/subtle character with amazing parallels, ideology, and symbolism. development isn’t always needed for a character when they’re already morally good.

Part 5 has good aspects but in full it's symbolism and character writing is extremely surface level

I really think that if the final fight for part 5 having GER around could've been good if it wasn't just an instant win button for no reason

I also believe that one more fight for Trish, possibly a 1v1 vs Doppio or Diavolo after learning more about her ability from Bucciarati would've completed and saved any lingering potential issues in Trish

Part 5 was also much too reliant on 1v1's and only having one person fighting at a time which really limited the creativity of the fights endings (which is an issue with some of part 6 as well)

Araki is best at writing character relationships when they work together in a fight and having more of those moments instead of their passive moments would've fixed most issues with the part

The only other issue that would've been left would be the lack of pertinent villains

It really failed when it came to the villain of the week system since it ruined any character the villains could've had
