That’s precisely why itachis entire storyline is insanely tragic more than anything. Uchihas from the JUMP were shown as outcasts not only for how they were such a jealous clan and cold blooded, the nine tails was suspected to be an avatar by those who possessed the sharingan (Uchihas). Itachi absolutely hated war because of all the unnecessary bloodshed he saw as a kid and devoted his entire life in order to keep peace in konoha so much so that he sacrificed everything in his life in order to keep the death toll in the village to a minimum. His resolve was so apparent that as soon as the Uchihas were planning their coup for their own sense of safety, he reported to the Hokage at the time. Their attempts at stopping the uchiha in a kinder manner failed because of the Uchihas unbridled arrogance. In comes shisui and itachi was so glad he met another Uchiha that didn’t want bloodshed. Shisui came up with a plan to put all the uchihas in a genjutsu and help them understand why a coup would be the worst possible thing. BUT this BITCH Danzo was like nah you a child, had someone poison Shisui then danzo stole his right eye and shisui was like yeah ITS OVER WITH then killed himself after giving his left eye to itachi. So itachi absolutely hopeless having no means of stopping the war from happening was given a choice by Danzo, Either have a huge war where thousands of innocent lives would be lost and the entire Uchiha clan be annihilated or Itachi kills them all personally with the only person allowed to live be his brother

So in order to stop innocent lives from being lost and the cycle of hatred continuing he decided to shoulder all of sasukes vengeance

And before ANY of this was explained in shippuden Itachi was the most HATED character in any anime, hell I even hated him from how evil I thought that man was

What itachi did was absolutely unforgivable but his determination was ultimately the catalyst for peace in the shinobi world

And then Sasuke learns the truth then vows to take revenge on the people who forced his brother into that predicament and was also furious because people were ignorant of the circumstances that led up to the genocide and called him a villain, murderer, traitor, and whatnot

and ftr Sasuke’s whole revenge arc to me makes perfect sense — hes an extremely powerful but also heavily traumatized loose canon

once that revelation ab konoha was made i distinctly remember feeling like “man fuck yeah sasuke fuck konoha”

Uchihas were thought to be the ones (by legit everyone in the hidden leaf) who caused the nine tails attack previewed in the very beginning of Naruto cause of how the destruction of konoha was so well calculated (Technically everyone who thought the Uchihas attacked Konoha were right because Obito controlled kurama after he took kushina LOL) So basically it would’ve been Lil Uchihas Vs the World. Even with how strong the Uchihas Kekkai Genkai was, the hyugas on top of the aburame on top of the other extremely powerful clans would’ve shit stomped them in pure numbers
