The whole dance sequence from earlier episodes I thought was gonna just be some form of like written code for one of the puzzles whenever they found eden, or maybe end up useless. Overall the gags did land better than other nico tanigawa works, and the characters didn't feel as immature at first ||ignoring what happened to koga||, and I prefer nico tanigawa's style in this one more. hope they do something with this sense of style in the future

i probably almost bring up jojo in any rant i do about adaptations that don't hold up to the level of the manga, and it's pretty much like jojo, where it's this super mega franchise in japan, it's pretty much part of the culture, almost every anime and manga has one reference to it in some form, an absolute legend. then it comes out and you look around the other animes that came around it, hxh, opm, K(which actually both looks good and has sick animation even though it reuses some OP animations), madoka, sket dance

and you just think in the perspective of critique "why doesn't this look/move better"

it's still a success regardless cuz it's jojo but y'kno

i think generally i’m able to look past shoddy animation anyway though, like i’m even enjoying Berserk 2016 despite it being objectively inferior to the manga and all prior adaptions

so when i’m disappointed by a series having bad animation, it’s more about it turning off potential fans from a great series rather than it making my own experience worse

same case with berserk, critically acclaimed, has amassed a grand following, reputation for it's quality storytelling and the fact it's in hiatus hell, but they give it to a no name studio and director and i just sit there thinking "why? it's like giving a 100 year forged blade to someone whose only experience is using a stick"

i just care too much about animation quality i guess, because that's the one thing that makes the medium unique. voices? drama CDs exist. colours? illustrations. music? i guess i'll give that one up. art/artstyle? the manga exists if it's a manga adaptation. storytelling? novels.
