finished the Goku Black/Future Trunks arc of DBS

Honestly I enjoyed a good bit of it but the fights started to feel repetitive kinda towards the middle of the arc, and the way it ultimately ended was extremely underwhelming and completely unnecessary

Maybe this is a super cold take, idk what the general fan consensus is on the arc but ||why the hell did that bit with Grand Zeno even happen? Not story wise but like, writing wise? They had a perfectly good conclusion to the fight with Trunks using his spirit sword thing, but they decided to just be like “lol he’s still not dead” and have Goku call in Zeno to destroy him instantly, zero questions asked?||

Like that completely cheapens the entire conflict, knowing that that could happen

And yeah, Goku wants to fight the strongest, || Ill admit that that’s a good enough reason in-universe for him not summoning Zeno right off the bat. But like, as a writer, what is the benefit of doing all of that? It felt like the writer decided to arbitrarily write himself into a corner at the last second and then just as clumsily write himself right back out the next chapter. ||

It’s genuinely one of the strangest writing decisions I think I’ve ever seen in an anime/manga, definitely top 5. I’m not even mad at it just genuinely baffled by it lmao

How is NO ONE even acknowledging how || entire universes are being genocided over a tournament at the whim of Zeno ||? Like they acknowledge it as a rule but they aren’t even addressing how brutal it is

Like there was ONE scene, where || Gohan looks at a guy he defeated’s family photo before it gets erased because Zeno erased their entire universe || and he looks vaguely upset about it but that’s practically all there is before the narrator is like “Gohans feeling a bit of guilt, but he has to steel himself and move on!” Like really?

How come none of these characters understand the gravity of what’s happening unless it’s directly having to do with their own ||universe’s survival||, and we get like a total of two scenes including the one i mentioned (as of ep112) even suggesting that they might need to || wish back/otherwise save the other universes||

The fact that ||Vegeta|| of all people is the first one to even vocally suggest that they might ||save even ONE universe with their SDB wish || is both a cool bit of character development but also a sad testament to the state of this series when fucking ||Vegeta|| is the closest any of the main cast gets to acting remotely rationally during this arc

and Goku’s like “||idk what i’ll do for my wish, maybe i’ll get something for my wife Haha” Nine Universes Are Going To Be Completely Destroyed, Billions Of People Are Going To Die, What The Fuck Are You Talking About||

it’s like the author saw how reckless goku was in the Cell arc and the Buu arc and were like “what if we did that but made it unbelievably worse”
