I think One Piece suffered initially from it basically having no plot until something chapter 90.
I think the pacing is a little off at points, like the chapter 100 celebration isn’t as impactful because of how fast we got there since they entered the city.
I don’t like this weird thing where every villain needs some weird lackey dudes, it’s super unnecessary and bogs down the fight a lot.
Where One Piece really shines is it’s characters.
Nami/Luffy/Usopp/Zoro/Sanji are really distinct, fleshed out and their dialogue is pretty cute/funny. Never felt like one of them bogged it down and that’s good for a story like this.
I fucking love the flashbacks of One Piece, and I usually hate flashbacks in anime/manga. They’re the emotional core of an arc and they really ham it up.
