As someone who has gotten into many popular series and their fanbases, nothing has soured experiences more than seeing other people's negative opinions on things I haven't decided on yet. A little bit of searching can be fine when seeing if it's something you might like, but once you get into "X sucks" or "Y was done bad" then it's pretty draining
