Tokyo (Manji) Revengers was announced a live-action movie back in February of this year. On June it was also announced an anime adaptation for 2021.

As a big fan of the classic delinquent genre, I'm going to give my thoughts on this manga that, to me, really changes up the dynamic of all the classic delinquent mangas before it.

For context, delinquent battle mangas are very typical and quite often just use the same stuff. Fighting for the sake of it, aiming to be the strongest in their school/town/region/Japan, being delinquents, and more fighting.

Tokyo Revengers has a lot of that, but lacks an integral part. Takemitchi Hanagaki is aiming for the top in his gang, but he's not, and probably never will be, the strongest fighter

And I think this character is the most unique out of all the series in this genre that I've read. He's probably even the weakest fighter among the top ranks in his gang, or even among the regular members, but he's aiming for the top and has a good chance at it.

He's the one with the most [heart] and the manga even says that a great leader doesn't necessarily mean a great fighter. He can't throw fists, he can't win fights, but he's not there to win the fight, he's there to win the war.

He has a mission bigger than any one on one showdown he'll face, and he won't win those, but he can damn well try to not lose just so someone else can step in and win for him, and only then can he say he's won the war.

This pretty much deconstructs the genre entirely because a weak-ass isn't aiming to win the fight, he's not aiming to be the strongest, he's not fighting simply for fighting's sake. He's aiming to not lose, he's aiming to be a great leader despite being weak, and he's fighting for something bigger than a brawl.

So the announcements of both a live-action and an anime adaptation will hopefully be the keys to revitalizing the genre in a time period that doesn't have many of the guts and glory of the time before, and hopefully puts Tokyo Revengers on the many otakus lists.

I love this op the most for everything it has, but the Beat Crusaders one is my fave for the song

I think it's really nice when an op doesn't show off a lot of the story parts and is going off for aesthetics for most of the op
