Finally watched the Legend of Avantris Christmas Special one shot DnD Session, ‘Twas, The Night Before Witchlight. Oh my god these goddamn jokers barely got anything done in 3 freaking hours lol, it’s just as chaotic as the snippets hinted at, it took them like what, 30-45 minutes to walk from when they first met up to go to their first event spot? Every time they get distracted it was non stop laughs damn, and the DM didn’t help matters with her Naughty List penalty, where if she deemed someone obstructive enough she would have them roll for one of the penalties… and it just made things worse lol

Highly recommended to everyone to watch it. For the lulz.

Land of the Lustrous Vol 1:
Cute slice of life esque hijinks with Phos, the supposed useless gem that breathes character into a pretty unique world that reminds me of how Cells at Work! works in anthropomorphizing the cells of the human body but with way more fantastical depth (cue the Buddhism symbolism with stuff like the Lunarians) and intriguing geo-ecological world building. Love how you can immediately tell that Cinnabar will be a sort of antagonistic force and that Phos will go on a coming of age type story as they journey to journal natural history (even undergoing literal metamorphosis to signal). The art is a bit abstract at times so it’s hard to grasp what I’m looking at and the same goes for the character designs (I wish there were more distinction for some of the gems). However, I do appreciate some of its artistic style with the lettering. It also blends the comedy with the underlying gravity of the situation decently well. Even though I don’t have a geology degree, what I do know that’s seen here is accurate, never expected them to reference biological calcification.

Speaking of the last review and my comment on Phos eventual coming of age, guess it came faster (geddit) than expected- teaches you (and Phos in a “snap back to reality” moment x2) that maybe taking stuff slowly is better than rushing through finding your potential. The world building went hard tho- didn’t expect that one twist. Phos really does out Kongo thru the ringer, guess he has the hardest resolve of them all. Yet he has had the two most funniest moments this volume. Ventricosus I felt was heavily underused ||(Phos and them should have bonded more, hell give more Kongo and Venticosus moments)|| but that’s just me. I liked how the textless panels just made the perfect balance of pacing too.
