Martian Successor Nadesico beat at 26 episodes. Checked it out since I loved the cast in all the Super Robot Wars games I’ve played and it was a great decision, I loved it! A 90’s sci-fi anime set in 2196, where humanity has colonized Mars but had to retreat and enter a war against the mysterious Jovian Lizards, who attacked and destroyed the Martian colonies. Enter the battleship Nadesico, the newest and most powerful spaceship made by Nergal industries that will soon join the conflict.
Just one problem.
The entire crew has personality disorders ranging from a brilliant but ditzy captain who gets distracted by her obsession with her childhood friend, an over the top bombastic pilot who believes himself to be like the heroes in all the old super robot anime’s he’s watched, and an emotionally stunted computer specialist child genius.
The perfect recipe for a zany, campy show that nevertheless isn’t afraid to show the harshness of war. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions really. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll get angry, you’ll get excited, often in the same episode.

There’s also sequel games (that aren’t translated) and a sequel movie The Prince of Darkness (which from what I’ve seen the story in SRW W is NOT the same tone as the TV show and isn’t available for free) so I’m just gonna ignore those lol. But yeah, loved the series, highly recommended to people.

Alright now that I’m all caught up with current anime, it’s time for something I found while looking for Nadesico eps, another ‘90s anime I’ve been dying to watch: Getter Robo Armageddon! A standalone 13 episode OVA that takes inspiration from all the manga (minus Arc which hasn’t been written yet) and anime to tell its own story. First ep has been action packed and filled with great combat and designs so looking forward to the rest. Confused as hell with the plot though.
As a side note, it’s funny how I still haven’t played a Super Robot Wars that featured this show lol. The ones that I’ve played are from the original Getter Robo and the Shin Getter Robo Vs New Getter Robo anime, despite the former frequently getting the ultimate upgrade in Shin despite not being in the original anime.

Getter Robo Armageddon beat. AMAZING! Sadly I can’t give it my usual 10/10 due to a uh flaw but believe you me this series is SO DAMN HYPE! So 9,9/10. GO WATCH IT!
Humanity faced a threat like no other, Invaders from beyond the stars massacring the moon’s population. Years after the Earth’s Super Robot Army managed to stop them, they suddenly returned. The Getter team, who researched the mysterious Getter Rays to create the the Getter Robos, has dissolved due to a tragedy. Yet the return of the Invaders forced these once friends and comrades, now hated enemies, together to fight against them in an escalating and desperate fight with intense action and great combat…
… and then the director, who made G Gundam, got into a disagreement with the staff and studio and left after the third episode, taking the show’s bible and future storyline with him. They basically ||put a soft reset on the storyline and started over in a way with a time skip|| as they pick up the pieces of the original story and try to salvage it into a new one lol. See, Armageddon isn’t based on any one Getter Robo work as previously mentioned, and takes bits and pieces from its previous media and out its own twist to it. How they tried to fix it is… take the current characters and try to cram it into the Getter Robo Go manga storyline LMAO
Did it work? At the beginning oh god no lol. The nonstop action grinder to a halt and the pacing got much slower, and they had to uh do some interesting things to the characters. ||Genki is KAI? I never would have guessed. Still don’t know if I love or hate that. Definitely dislike the professor going from enemy to friend to enemy again.||
BUT! They got their crap together and the last 3-4 episodes are nothing short of perfection chef’s kiss. It’s worth powering through the slog for the AWESOME final ep haha.
Now all rise up to the Getter Robo anthems.
