One is a poorly thought out trash that just dumps whatever inane plot progression that makes no sense and is dumb as hell, acted out by characters shallower than a Flatland resident with a boring as heck I’m so smart MC. The other is a surprisingly solid diamond in the rough story with complex characters tackling a mature issue, in a great closed setting with an MC with severe limitations to his powers that needs to outthink his opponents.

The first is ‘She's the Strongest Bride, But I'm Stronger in Night Battles’, and the second is ‘The Kept Man of the Princess Knight’.

||After Maria met Shadow, they had to build their home together whereas Sonic had a cave of his own then met Tom and got adopted into his family. Likewise, in the first film, Sonic peeped in to Tom and Maddie’s house through the glass panes as a voyeur, then the opposite happened with Shadow as Maria peeped into his glass tube as an acquaintance-soon-to-be-friend. Maria’s message to Shadow of how “A light shines even though the star is gone” kind of fits Sonic’s arc too, even though he may turn bad (he literally went Super and rogue at the same time) for a minute he’ll always come back due to love and Sonic’s “there are no winners with revenge” is for sure inspired by Knuckles. - On the same note, Maria teaching Shadow to touch hands through the glass and then touching hands looking at the stars and then Sonic and Shadow dapping up on the moon to go Super together is a nice through line. A tangent, but Maria playing Live & Learn kind of sets the rest of the uses in the film as Maria’s voice from the stars. With that being said, that moon scene is also poignant because Maria and Shadow talked about stars, distance, and brightness and now he’s closer to the stars, closer to Maria…||
