It's all well and good. My contention is I wanted to castrate Shinji with a nine iron. Well, really it was Asuka. Shinji was just there, annoying. The characters were annoying and then the theme, delivered with the subtlety of a drive-by shooting with a rocket launcher, fell flat on its face.

i think some aspects of evangelion are pretty subtle, rei in particular leaves a lot unsaid deliberately and you kinda have to fill in the gaps for her character. asuka's actions are annoying but the explanation behind them you need to sort of convince yourself on i think

shinji being the protagonist makes a lot of his actions far more understandable but they dont make them any less frustrating to watch

i got two episodes left

it’s mostly good i think the last 5 or so eps are a mix of really good and super arbitrary

like idk. the whole void people thing just kinda goes away

for how important Jinka was in season 1, he’s basically only present for two episodes of season 2 (which is almost double the size of season 1 so it’s even more noticeable)

but i think the decision to backseat the MC of season 1 actually paid off well

and i think his role as a teacher this arc made me like him so much more — his relationships are all super sweet this arc, it’s nice
