Caught up with The Ember Knight. It’s a manhwa about a knight in training who assumed his dead brother’s identity to take his revenge… just one problem. He is ridiculously weak. His only weapon is his observation and constantly thinking mind, and so BS-ing his way to victory the manhwa goes. Really loved it. It has that unputdownable quality to it thanks to constant twists to the story and the endless mind games between EVERYBODY. Whether it’s because the author planned it all out or is really good at seat of their pants writing, it’s genuinely a fun read. How will the MC think his way out of the hole he inadvertently got himself into?

That reminds me, I put off reading Talentless Nana because the concept seemed absurd to me (like how are they not found immediately lol), but this showed me how it can be done in an engaging way. BS-ing her way to victory manga let’s go!

I like this issue. Falcon (as the new Captain America) throwing shade on Spidey, Logan, AND the Avengers all at once with one line lol, Supercharging the Spacium Beam through Captain Marvel, Ultraman trying to reason with Galactus, Cap telling Shin that he’ll get through his bad publicity and become the beacon of hope they were meant to be. all good stuff.

Hmm I dunno about Talentless Nana. First 5 chapters in… and the circumstances are stupid honestly. Basically ||an OBVIOUSLY brainwashed assassin (other than her expertise she has no superpowers) kid is sent to a super powers school and tasked with killing them all for her lord and masters, the jealous no power peeps that may or may not be the enemy of humanity the story keeps bringing up but I don’t care. Also they round up super powered people in one island specifically to kill them off and they chose to send a kid?||

The core idea is the same about a weak person hanging around and beating superpowers, but the key difference is that Ember Knight is about determining who is or isn’t an enemy from all these seasoned warriors who each have their own schemes and ideas, while Nana is about ||killing freaking kids who have superpowers yes but they’re not freaking bent on causing a war right now, they’re just normal teenagers. Also they’re dumb and it’s like kicking a puppy with a broken leg.|| That’s not fun reading!

First chapter was funny though. I’ll give it a few more chapters just for that. On a related note, probably won’t be checking out The Boys since it has a premise similar to Nana. Though as I understand it the targets are jerks, so maybe that makes all the difference.

Ultraman: Along Came a Spider-Man Chapters 6 and 7 Review:

I feel like they made Dr. Doom far too cartoonishly evil in these two chapters- especially with his disregard for the Ragon. However, I love the civilian aspect of the whole Ragon dilemma (who is the real monster?)- undercut by Doom unfortunately. Yet, the consistency in the understanding of what Ultraman means and represents is still present within these chapters- even teaching Spider-Man a lesson about “samurai spirit”, even under the pressure of 72 hours (3 days- just like the 3 minutes of Ultramanning time). Chiko continues to be the best.
