The Ultraman series has this tendency to reuse old episodes but give them a fresh twist as their audience shifts between generations. Like Garamon and the Cicada aliens, in Ultra Q it was a straightforward alien invasion of aliens using a computer brain to control robots, whereas in Blazar the aliens loved the earth and reluctantly followed their superiors orders lest they be killed. I liked that.

This Gabadon ep was also remade in Blazar, but I feel the remake missed the mark this time around. See, Blazar took the children’s drawing come to life to the stars because nothing else he does works to kill this thing. Whereas Ultraman was kicking its ass nine ways to Sunday, but was moved by the children’s pleas to spare him and took him off world to live quietly where he won’t bother anyone. That made all the difference to me really.
